Alright guys, help me settle a bet: does "avg points" mean the avg number of points among individuals that put in for the tag OR is it the number of points that last year's winner had? Hope that makes sense...
-
Depends where you're looking. Average points to draw if you're looking at special hunt choices.
-
Average points for all the people that have drawn the tag.
-
Average points for all the people that have drawn the tag.
:yeah:
In general, it's a meaningless number.
-
With the draw odds it really doesn't mean anything...............
-
There used to be 3 tags in the unit I apply for, about 3 years ago a guy with 2 points drew, the other had 4 points and the last tag went to a guy with 6 points. So the average on next years regulations for that permit hunt showed the average at 4 points. I'm glad that doesn't happen every year!
-
Oh okay. So if there is only one tag available, and the person who draws only has one point, the "avg points" = 1?! This makes our formula to determine draw odds essentially worthless.

That's right. However I don't believe anyone uses that number to calculate draw odds.

Someone on here came up with a formula that used that number. I entered about 50 different hunts into the formula before a buddy of mine disagreed with what "avg points" actually means.
-
I am sure many have MAX Average points .... :chuckle:

They didn't use that number. They used the actual average points for everyone that applied. Not just the average of those who drew.
-
How were those numbers found?

average number of points it took to draw the tag.

Lifesaver bobcat, thanks
-
On average, for me, it means "not selected." :dunno:
-
Avg points - I looked up the definition in the dictionary. It said, a meaningless number meant to give false hopes of getting close to drawing soon. An encouragement to buy more applications in future years.

Spot on.
