Title: Anyone Have experience with Programmers?
Post by: 270Shooter on May 20, 2013, 09:56:14 PM: I can get a screaming deal on an edge evolution CS. I do not know very much about programmers but I was hoping someone could give me some advice. I am really only wanting it for better fuel economy for my 2000 f150 5.4L. I guess my question is, Is it worth it? here is the link to it.

Post by: coachcw on May 20, 2013, 10:02:54 PM: on the smokers they work well , I have been less impressed with them on gas engines and with so many catiyltic efficancey codes popping up i'd be pretty leary on using one on a newer rig .

I agree with coach. They're a lot more effective on diesels.

Post by: 270Shooter on May 20, 2013, 10:07:50 PM: yeah i can tell they are much better on diesels. and its not used, its a new one i can get 50% off. i just dont know if its worth the money or the risk of damaging the truck. although it does have some really cool features.

Post by: 270Shooter on May 20, 2013, 10:16:22 PM: I changed tire sizes so they are a little larger than stock but the speedo is only off by 1-2 mph so i probably wont worry about it. You don't think it would give me any noticable increase in fuel mileage?

I also hear that throttle body spacers can be a big help on these engines but is that true?

Post by: coachcw on May 20, 2013, 10:33:23 PM: I'd spend the money on some techron cleaner every so often , better off keeping the injectors running clean and to decarbon from time to time . throttle body spacers do do one thing they make the liknage and filter housing fit crappy :chuckle: :chuckle:. be carefull with super free flowing exhaust aswell you could loose a bit of torque. the factory really dose a decent job of optimizing all driving conditions and air fuel ratios .

Post by: thurman on May 21, 2013, 12:07:26 AM: i have a sct tuner for my 07 f150 and love it. i read up on them a lot on www.f150forum.com (http://www.f150forum.com) and most see about 1-3 mpg gain, i got 2 but going from 11 to 13 im happy. stock turners are for stock trucks tho if you modify your truck you should get a custom email tune for your programmer, when i got mine i told them the brand of cold air intake, and exhaust and the size of tires i had then got a custom tune e mailed specifically for my truck and can definitely tell a difference in power. the sct can hold 3 custom tunes and the 3 stock tunes. to get custom tunes for your programer go to www.powerhungryperformance.com (http://www.powerhungryperformance.com)

17-18 with 35's? You gotta calculate by hand man, don't trust the read out on the display, they are way off.

i have a 07 f150 and with my programer im lucky to get 13 mpg with 33 inch tires and leveling kit

Which programmer do you have? I am also curious about them. Have an 06 leveled with 33's

I have the SCT sf3 and I bought it from www.morepowertuning.com (http://www.morepowertuning.com) for $350 and came with the 3 stock tunes and 3 custom tunes. I got a economy, performance and towing for 91 octane for mine.
