So I am going to construct a big slingshot so I can shoot my weight leader and bait in the middle of the river for stergeon. Im going to use an old boot and cut it up so i can put the weight snd bait in. im thinking about using that strechy tubing and 2 metal rods or metal tubing or something. any ideas?

I almost guarantee you I could sling a piece of lead farther with a fishing rod than trying to sling shot it...

Wholy moly.
Ok I take it back :chuckle: good luck DJ!

Take plenty of pictures.
-
It should be a fun project Ill take some pics when Im done. Thanks haha Im going to need it.
-
What about just having loops that slide over your boots? Then just sit down pull back and let it fly.
-
Umm.....do yourself a favor and get a kayak :chuckle: You could use a kayak in many different places, and from the looks of how much they spent, you won't be spending much more..........or have fun doing whatever :chuckle:

well im going to drive 2 poles into the ground get some type of elastic band and use the leather from a pair of old boots to make the pouch. i got the boots i can use alder poles and I can get the sling shot tube for 12 cents a foot. I figure 3 feet is enough tubing for each side.

How much lead are you tryin to sling?
-
1 to 6 oz. I want to use it in a few places since I dont have a boat.
-
I can make a sling out of a leather like this.
-
maybe something in between the two. not sure yet.

Let me know when you plan on sturgeon fishing with this....i got to see it
-
I'll wait for October for the pumpkin chunking contest results :chuckle:
-
That would be worth charging the price for admission to see that!!

okay sounds good. not sure when im going to start working on it. I will let you know.

This is a pretty common practice for guys fishing below Bonneville on the Oregon Side. They are winging like 24 oz out there a long ways. Some guys even build hitch mount ones.
-
I have heard about this....never seen it in person. I've seen pics of guys that will prop 2x4 in the bed of their truck like goal posts then use surgical tubing and a pouch for the launcher. The weight is a rock off the back on 10 lb test line so the can snag it up....fish...and break it off if need be.

Okay.....NEW AND GREATER IDEA!
Skeeter Bait Launcher 5000 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-KxVRs6dPA#)

you might want to check and make sure it's legal where you want to use it. I'm thinking some places you have to hand place the bait. IE no sling shots or launchers.

Good call! I am going to call wdfw and see what they have to say.
-
If you use a high velocity launcher you might want to partially freeze your bait so it hold in one piece. It will thaw in a few minutes under water.
-
Radio controlled boat to take it out as far as you want. When it gets there just flip your bail and pull it off the boat. You might even make some friends that want their bait out there too. Certainly less dangerous than a sling shot.

True but I want a big Slingshot. Who knows i might need it for something other then fishing, you never know when you might need a slingshot that will shoot 6 oz 200 yards lol.
-
Sure I get it and have done it. Water balloons are good to fire at boaters that get too close.

To be honest that wouldn't be a bad law to have in place. Imagine how dangerous it would be with a bunch of bankies slinging lead like that into the water, both for boats and for other bankies who might get whacked when one of these homemade contraptions malfunctions.

For the sake of the thread I would not suggest that someone uses a spud gun for launching gear.

Dont worry I dont plan on shooting bait with a spud gun. I do plan on testing my slingshot a bunch of times with different weights to see. Its going to be a few weeks til I start buliding it.

Here you go.....much more realistic. They have a pretty sweet set up...probably could get the job done with something a little more simple.
Bonneville Dam Slingshot Fishing For Sturgeon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOoQGsw3QbM#)

It's illegal at the bonneville. Check the regs no sligshot or floating devices you must hand cast.
-
If there are catchable numbers in the Halis and you on the game Ill tow my boat down and take ya out. I have all gear. I would love to eat some fresh sturgy!
