its spring. anyone seeing babies running around yet?
-
Just saw our first turkey babies this mourn in. Didn't mean to thread jack with the turkeys. :chuckle:
-
Around here, still seeing quite a few quail paired up. Seeing more and more lone pheasant roosters though. Haven't seen turkey hens for a bit. Hopefully this cold rainy weather will move on now and things will be good for all the hatches. We've had frost yesterday.
-
Hope not, with these rains theyd be dead
-
:yeah:
A lot of quail pairing up but no chicks.
-
I seen my first set of quail babies last week, then the same bunch yesterday
-
Riding the bike path in Richland to work a week ago, I saw a nice batch of 10 - 12 little pheasants with Mom and another 10 - 12 little fuzzball quail with both Mom and Dad. That was about two days before the rains... :(
Hope a few of them make it!!
-
I've seen a few of both quail and pheasants around, they sure have a tough start in life with the cooler/wet weather lately and the pheasants were being harassed by a raven, hopefully it will still turn out to be a good hatch.
-
saw a batch of about 10-15 baby quails on my property yesterday. they were flying already, and were pretty big.
-
Bumped into a couple of momma grouse recently. Lil brown chicks pretty cute.
-
I've been seeing lots of pheasants and quail chicks this year!

I haven't seen any pheasant chicks just yet, but I haven't really been looking either.
-
:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: both actually! Been seeing lots of duck and goose baby's too!
-
Saw pheasant chicks on the 22nd. None since
-
Things are not looking good. Have seen several hens in the past couple of days but no chicks. Still waiting to run into some quail or turkey chicks/hens.
-
Had a hard rain the other night. Still seeing hens with roosters...... No chicks seen since the 22nd.
-
buddy has had between 25 and 50 baby quail in his yard the past few afternoons.
-
I saw about 30 quail yesterday, got honked at as I stopped traffic. Then last night plowing the field saw some pheasant
-
this rain is no good. :bash:
-
baby grouse I have been seeing big enough to fly
saw first baby quail this morning. Size of golf balls
-
Not a one around here. seeing a ton of doves just out of the nest. but that does not make up for no quail or pheasants, did see a young fawn and mama though...
-
Saw 12 or so valley chicks Tuesday below our cabin in Okanogan, woke up Thursday morning to 42 degrees and solid pouring rain :bash:. Rained most of the day and stayed pretty cold...not good. Hope they make it.
-
Seeing quail chicks, the birds should be fine this year.
-
Have seen 4-5 pheasant hens without chicks. Yesterday saw 3 drenched turkey hens without any poults. Did see 5 older quail chicks in town though. They were probably a 1/3 the size of an adult and could fly.
-
I released 3 hens and 2 roosters yesterday. I know their not gonna produce this year but hopefully will make it through the year and baby make next year. I'm planning on releasing a few every few months.
-
Afraid it is going to be poor......we've been pounded by rain of recent. 2nd cutting is blooming out terribly because it's been too wet to be able to knock down. Looks like today should be the last of it but I'm sure we've gotten a half an inch today already alone.
-
Been seeing a bunch of quail and grouse chicks around are area.
-
This is a hen pheasant in our neighborhood with babies, just saw it going 30 down our road. Sorry for the crappy picture
-
Saw the quail around the house yesterday, 3 separate families all with 6-0 chicks and one pair had a 2nd set of 12 or so. The 2nd set must have just hatched cause they were probably the size of a quarter!!! 2nd hatches make me happy :IBCOOL:
-
saw several families of quails in the last several days. one family had about 10 chicks. all very small about 2 days old maybe. the other families had anywhere from 1 to 6 chicks. they were all flying already.
also saw a family of huns. the chicks were a bit bigger already.
-
We have 3 coveys running around here with at least 8-12 new chicks in each. I have a 6' high pile of oak branches in one of my pastures that I was going to burn a couple of months ago but noticed that there were 2 quail pairs sitting on it. I'm glad that I didn't burn it because that it where a lot of those chicks were hatched.
-
Yes, this last hatch was definately the birds best best this year. Little buzzbombs by the dozens running around now.
-
There are some big hatches in the wenatchee valley. Was out hydroseeding last week and they were all over the place. We probably saw over 100 quail in one smaller sage flat.
-
Been seeing both in my backyard

Same thing in West Valley. Less production early on but they are hitting the brush stack and seed pile at the back of our place hard right now. Brittany and the Setter try and escort them off the property but they just boomerang back twice a day. Looks good for this year ... finally!
-
Around here the quail hatch is looking decent. Quite a few coveys with 4-6-8-10 chick about 1/3 adult size. A few covey with 2/3 adult size chicks. Have seen zero pheasant chicks. Did see some Turkey poults about 2-3 weeks ago.
-
Yes, but this is the first hatch we have seen this year. Normally, we are on our second by now.
It looks to be a bad year for birds.

I've been seeing tons of older baby quails and a ton of brand new ones as well. :dunno:
