These make great threads in the other boards so lets get one going here.
I'll go first.
-
That's a sweet looking bear 300, I've wondered why there are never yearly post your dead bear threads like deer and elk.
Here is mine from the NE corner.
-
mine from the panhandle (idaho)
-
Big Red

Nice bears, gentlemen. Congrats
-

Glad to see you got your bear Dan.

-
MAGhunter - seems every time I see your picture that dang bears head gets bigger and bigger! Some darn fine bear hitting the dirt this year. Congratulations to all
-
Gladly....some toads this year. Mine isn't the biggest or anything like Big Red but I am very happy. Still smiling this morning.
-
Here is My wife's bear from the NE corner.
We got to bring our little guy along on the hunt which made it extra special!
Fellow Hunt-WA member Jesse helped with both the guiding and baby sitting :chuckle:
-
Lot's of nice bears falling this spring, glad to see it. Congrats to all of you.
-
Some nice bears on here so far.
Alwinearcher, that's a great photo!!!
-
Alwinearcher, that bear looks like an old warrior. Interesting to know how old it is. Nice work.
-
Awesome bears to the lot!
Alwinearcher bear is gonna need a makeup artist, if its a sow its the Pyiilis Diller of bears! :chuckle:

:chuckle: I haven't seen a bear that bald in the face since the baiting days. After Larry D. Jones did his bear hunting video and introduced people to sour mash we saw quite a few like that up towards Index where so many people baited. We shot one of them and it had more molasses and barley on it's face than hair. Most of his teeth were rotten too.
That is a great picture though. Looks like one nice and happy group of hunters. All my group pictures end up where everyone looks angry at each other. Looks like a perfect shot - Congratulations to the wife!
-
that is one crazy looking bear alwine
-
Here is mine from the NE Corner. Shot last week.
-
Bunch of nice bears. Glad to see you get one on here Dan. It looks like the plaque is going to have a lot of competition this year.
-
Lots of great looking bears here. Well here is my first spring bear, and thanks again R&R for the call it sound great.
-
Wazzu, how much did your bear weight out at? Huge pumpkin head with great fur!
-
Blue creek. Nice job everybody.
-
Great bunch of bears, keep them coming.
-
We figure 275 to 300 lbs based on the amount of meat we got off him and the hide weight.
-
Here is mine from the NE Corner. Shot last week.
Wow I'm jealous, and coveting your bear! wazzu99
-
A very hearty congrats to all hunters on here....some real dandys on here...I look forward to adding my own bear come end of sept....
Keep em coming boys! (and girls..)
-
Blue creek. Nice job everybody.
monster paws... looks good
-
Some mammoths on here! Nice hunting, guys!
-
My 12 year old son Nate with his spring bear. Heart shot at 165 yards. Beautiful 125 pound blonde.
-
I think the young man may have my vote for best spring bear. Big Red is tough to beat but kids and blond bears is a great combo.
-
That is a pretty one.
-
Nice shooting Nate!
-
congrats to everyone!!!!
-
Awesome!
-
 Nice looking blonde bear congrats

We need to add a poll to this thread......best spring bear.....I'd like to vote for Nate and Little Red.
-
Some fine lookin bears men ....and women :chuckle: can not forget Shannon
-
Wasn't to be with the bow this year as all I saw was bald little sows and cubs when carrying the bow. Got it done with the .325 Kimber @ 205 yards. Bingo - I'll take it!
-
Alwinearcher, that bear looks like an old warrior. Interesting to know how old it is. Nice work.
Yeah, I am interested to find out how old it is also...
Very unique face on it thats for sure! (my wife prefers we call it unique rather then ugly.) :chuckle:
-
That bear has a butterface...... Everything looks good butherface :chuckle:
-
Congrats. Great bear and great hide.
-
Radsav, great bear. Call him Heavy-B. Thick body. Nice job!
-
Radsav, great bear. Call him Heavy-B. Thick body. Nice job!
He has a great hide and the pictures show that a little too well. I think a great bear, but really only a smidgeon above 200#. Pictures don't show how old he is. Very grey in the face with grey throughout the body and feet. Almost all the teeth worn down to the gums and only about 50% of the canine length left. Of the nearly 60 bear I've taken for myself he is one of the coolest looking bear I have ever taken and I'm thrilled. A big thanks to Bearpaw on that guy  I would have never found that part of the territory on my own. All I could find this year by myself was "Romper Room" >:(
-
Congratulations on the bear rad. He looks great
-
Congrats, Very nice looking bear!!!
-
Nice bear, Rad. He's chunky.
-
Alwineacrcher- I think the muzzle break on that Bazooka dun smoked the hair right off the face of that bear.. That is by far the most "interesting/unusual" lookin bear i have seen this year.. Love it
Congrats to you guys
Is that Ashton Kutcher in the photo ? (No offense intended if ya hate the guy just a pretty good resemblance)
-
Rad-
Wow that's a beauty..Imagine the size of that thing if he would have made it to the fall..That is a beautiful bear and one to be proud of for sure.
-
Nice bears guys! Thanks for showin'em off!!

For an ancient bear he's pretty good eating too. We tested four different sausage recipes at 2# each to see which one we liked. That was sort of fun for the wife and I. We couldn't decide if we liked the American Breakfast or Italian Breakfast better. So I made 25# of each. Now I have two pounds of red pepper sausage and two pounds of maple/red pepper sausage I don't want to freeze. Guess we will be eating egg and sausage sandwiches for breakfast and spaghetti for dinner the next few days. Maybe some spicy sausage grinders for lunch! We've got it pretty rough around here
-
You're killing me Radsav! Sounds delicious. I'm dying to turn my next bear into jalapeņo cheese summer sausage. Good on ya for feeding your family well on that bear.
-
Some nice bears guys!
I ended up getting this small bear the last day of my spring hunt. I passed three other bears during the season and had a great time in the hills.

Cool bear! Whats the story? Did you shoot him in the leg 1st then a follow up shot?
-
No first shot was through the vitals as he charged me at 40 yards. He got back up abd started moving through the brush after the first shot so I took whatever shot I had.
-
dayyyyyum and you got it all on video? ah jeez come on we gotta see that!
-
dayyyyyum and you got it all on video? ah jeez come on we gotta see that!
No unfortunately. All happened so fast that we didn't actually get it on video.
-
Thanks for taking the time to post the pics of your bears, just what a guy needs to get the juices flowin' for the season. Really surprised by the size of some of these, a few look like they came from Vancouver Is. with Shockey. Gotta say the bleach blond and the old timer were really unique and cool to see. See, I said "unique", not ugly when referring to the sloth.
-
I'll be posting one next Thursday I hope.
-
Good looking bears.
Why don't you guys tell everyone what caliber you used to succeed ? I always want to know that, even on TV, but most don't.
-
.270, 150 gr Barnes.
-
D-Rock, I'll be lookin' for it. I got a feelin' if you do there'll be plenty posts about it so a guy should be able to find it. Good luck out there! Should be plenty of ripe berries by then.
-
yea......we'll all be lookin ........ :o

.325 WSM with 200gr Accubond out of a Kimber Montana this spring. Not my normal bear gun but it might become my every day bear gun from here on out. Two bear with it so far and combined recovery distance has been Zero yards!
-
combined recovery distance has been Zero yards!
Yeah baby, that's what I'm talking about! I like to start my tracking job at the end.
-
No tracking is a beautiful thing....I'm up to about 3 yards total on two bears.

Unfortunately no. No deer, no bear, no nothing. But its because they are jumping the fence into my in-laws garden. The track was maybe a 5 minute walk from my camera. The area is pretty open due to the logging I told you about, so ill proly go back once season opens and call. Just to see what happens...

Here is mine from the Colockumelk Auction hunt with Bearmanric. Had a great time and met some great people. Thanks to Paw66 and Docsven who were great to hunt with. Since mt 7mm is out of action at the moment I used my TC Pro Hunter in 338 win mag with 225 Accubonds.

Tagged out on a little fella Sunday. Probably 90 pounds or so.

Did the little guy still have milk on his lips!
Haha no....wiped it off for the picture. That guy got the last laugh though. Five hours to get to him and he even rolled off a rock face into ten foot stickers. Actually a little happy he was small for the pack out. I'm 6'6" 300# so I have a tendency to make small things loom smaller. :chuckle:
-
Here is one I took the other day.
-
Thats a nice bear....
-
Nice bear Ironhead! You get that with a Mathews?
-
Not the Mathews, but I did shoot it in bow range or maybe knife range . 6' away when I pulled the trigger the first time, 2' or 3' when I shot the second time in self defense.
-
Oh c'mon now....you can't say that and then not give us the whole story!
-
Here is the short version.
I have been hunting this particular cut the last four years and the Bears, always, always, always come up from the creek bottom. I sit on an old skidder road and glass out to 700 yards. I usually hear them before I see em.
Well this Bear pops out on the bank above and directly behind me at about 30 feet. I grab my gun crank the scope down to 5.5 and put my rifle up trying to decide if the black spot in my scope is the correct black spot or not. I finally get lined up and he is about 6' away when I pull the trigger. He staggers back at the shot I jack another round in and he comes right at me and veers to the side when he sees me shakin in my boots. I shoot again as he passes by at 2' or 3' feet, I didn't even look through the scope just a point and shoot. Complete pass through.... of his right ear. He hooks right around me and piles up about 20 yards down the hill.
-
Just let me know if you get another up there that needs shot...I've got a brother in law chomping at the bit for his first bear. I got my spring bear in your area....
-
Nice work ironhead
-
First bear of the year
-
Nice bear....pic is a little funny....big ol head but the body looks small. I'm sure it is just the angle because the paw is big and the melon is solid. What do you think he weighs? How was the pack out?
Again....congrats!
-
I've spent many hours where you shot that bear.
-
Girlfriends first of anything. First year hunting. Shot the 4th.
-
First bear of the year
Nice bear bobby!!
-
We figured he was probably around 150-160 pounds. Even though he's not a huge bear it wasn't a easy pack out so my buddy met us with a wheel Barrel which made it a lot easier. Grilled up one of the backstraps last night and it tastes like candy. Very good eatin
-
Nice bunch of new bears, congrats to all.
-
Quite a bunch of bears down thanks to the hunt wa bear bashers!

And here I swore I would not shoot another August bear after I did the same a few years back. With August temperatures it seems almost ridiculous how fast a bear can turn soft, sticky and rank once you get it on the ground. Yet, I could not resist heading to a very close and convenient logged area I have been hunting for several years. There are a couple of crossed blow-downs that form a perfectly contoured elevated blind that I like to climb into, kick back, relax and glass. Not sure if I go there to hunt, or just escape and dream...it is lovely. Last Thursday evening I did just that, and I'm not going to lie...I slung my bow, climbed into the usual notch, kicked back, glassed for a second or two, saw nothing and decided...gee I could really go for a nap right now. As you can guess, stuff happened in the clearcut while I was out. I come around after ~ 15 minutes and this guy is giving the classic archery target broadside pose with his head buried in blackberries no less than 20 yards away. I did not know it at the time, but my shot bisected his heart...he turned and and kicked on the turbo boost back into the thicket that I later ranged at 50 yards....I heard him plow through the brush so I waited to hear the good old death moan...but nothing. So I waited longer-now wondering what just happened...did I miss or make a horrible shot? Everything felt right with my hold, aim, release and follow through. I decide to wait longer. After an hour I get down, find my arrow with what looked like small traces of fat and blood on it (uh oh) and can find absolutely zero blood on the ground, branches or leaves. It's getting dark, I find no blood trail where I last saw him enter the thicket....I decide to wait 30 more minutes and listen...it is now really dark and I'm not going in there with just a bow and flashlight after what I though was a wounded maybe gut shot bear. My spirits sank.... deep...what have I done?
So I call my friend, explained what happend and we decided to give him (bear) the night....the old "when in doubt" saying. We go in the next morning at first light, head to where I last saw him run and start bushwhacking. 30 yards into the neck high brush there he lays. I'm relieved. Upon further review, still not a whole lot of blood to try and back track on. I am always impressed how tough these animals are....how did he make it that far basically dead on his feet? No wonder there was no blood trail....the pump abruptly stopped. As I mentioned with the August temperatures there seems to be little margin for error in recovery and processing...I felt lucky to have found him, got him home, skinned, quartered and on ice...probably just in time. He makes for Wonderful Sloppy Joe's.
I do love bear hunting...thanks for looking.
-
Ahhh sleeping! My bear hunting technique of choice  Good job and beautiful August bear.
-
Smacked with a Z7 too! Yep Rad, best way to guarantee a bear is a good snooze!!
-
A King County fat back!
Nice bear  But where did you find that stabilizer?
-
best way to guarantee a bear is a good snooze!!
I have come to believe your subconscious stays in tune with the noises around you while you sleep. Seems if there is a bear in my berry patch he is the first thing I look at after I wake up. Even if he is 150-200 yards away. Up high I like to take a bear perch snooze at about noon. I'd guess better than half our high country bear are killed at 1:P.M.
-
"Nice bear But where did you find that stabilizer?"
It's an Axion stabilizer and sight. Obviously made for the Z. They do compliment the waffle iron :chuckle:
Riverside Archery helped with those.
-
My first bear... broke the ice. Now its on! :)
-
SW Washington bear
I didn't notice this bear until he was 70 yards away and he was running right to where I was standing in a clear cut :yike:. Its hard to say if he was coming my way coincidentally or with bad intentions as I was in the wide open. I took my first shot at 40 yards as he was getting around a small tree, hit him in the shoulder but missed bone/vitals and that got him really moving somewhat at a 45 degree angle still up to the area I was at, missed second shot (with him at full speed), missed third (full speed as well), held my 4th shot until he was more in the open and hit the bulls eye flipping him on his back. Just as I thought it was game over, he popped back onto his feet and took off for another 300 yards into the thick brush (of course).
He looks like he has had a few battles in his time with a missing claw and broken bottom canine tooth.

I was able to accomplish my goal today of filling both bear tags this year, first year doing that! This one was spotted about a mile away by my good buddy Tyler as he was checking out my spotter. We closed the distance to just 188 yards, had to wait for what seemed like forever for a clear shot at the shoulder and finally I was presented a shot and the weatherby punched a hole right through the lungs and top of the heart. 180 grain Barnes ttsx does it again!
-
Hmmmmm. Right at my deer block about 100 yards from my house.

Story time! Now that I am a little rested... but not much haha. My buddy and I went out hunting after work. He was going for an elk with a bow and I was going to take a bear with my rifle if we happen to run into one. Hunted hard all day in the heat and turned up nothing. It was just starting to get dark and we were following the elk freeway just outside a clearcut when i found fresh bear tracks. I looked at my buddy and we hadn't seen elk and since his elk was priority I waited for him to ask if I wanted to follow the tracks. Heck yes I did haha. So right as we start to follow them the wind decides to start gusting and everything sounds like an animal. Trees creaking. Leaves falling. All that fun stuff. So we were just about to call it quits in this small opening when i spotted the bear ahead of us about 30 yards walking away from us. I turned to tell my buddy and he crouched to spot it as I turned around to lean on a tree and get ready for a shot and watch the area. I turned back one more time real fast to see if he spotted it and he pointed at it. I turned back around and the bear was about 10 yards from us and closing. Just walking right on us. I look through my scope and realize i have it maxed on the 9 setting.... fail. So all I see is a humungous ear haha. I drop into the black to where the shoulder should be and without hesitation.... POW.... Bear takes off and I chamber another as I tell my buddy how huge the bear looked to me haha. After a strenuous 50 ft tracking... haha lucked out... the bear was piled up on a small log on top of its face. Looked way smaller then when it was walking right at me. We kept our distance and made sure it was dead. As I was about to go in to pick it up and get a good look at it my buddy steps on the log it was on and the whole bear shakes and moves. I jumped about 42ft and S'd my pants at the same time as he was laughing at me even though he did it on accident lol. by this time the headlamps are out. We snapped a couple pics. As we were taking pictures two trees fell with 50 yards of us.... pitch black and it was time to get outta there. after a rigorous drag out and skinning for a rug it was about 2:30 am and time to head home. First time bear and it was awesome! would do it again in a heart beat. Wife was not happy that the bear was 10 feet away but with adrenaline pumping it didn't phase me one bit. After taking the meat to the butcher and having the hide in the freezer and with all the fat we cut off i'd say she weighed between 200-225lbs and is about 5'-5.5' long. Wow that story got long fast but it was just last night and it's very vivid haha. tons of fun! Now figuring out the rug stuff and away she goes!

Well I took my son to where I got my first bear 15 years ago, hiked in to what is called the wall before you basically are on MT Baker and stopped for a break and watch a small area. Within just minutes we spotted a MT goat that eventually feed within 30 yards of us before I shoed him away, didn't want to be on the sharp end of its horn! :yike:
We started working our way out glassing all the open spots, and bowls below us. Dad look a bear, we'll shot it if you want it! :chuckle: Ok he says, we'll he had to wait as it feed into some brush, finally he had a shot boom it runs up hill almost out off the bowl, stopped just shy of the top by 30 yards, he put one more shot into it as it kept moving. Now the fun part getting to it all most strait down on a ledge, we got to it holding on to trees and brush.
Got it all taken care of and packed up, he went strait up 30 yards holding onto trees and brush. The kid is built like a moose, thank god because I would have had a hard time doing what he did. He has killed deer before, and couldn't stomach the smell when I gutted all them, this time he took care of all that plus skinned and quartered it all out.
Now the fun part eating it , all in all a great day. His first bear, sunny nice fall day spent with my son, beautiful scenery, it doesn't get any better than that! :chuckle:
Sorry about poor pic quality, my phone camera lense is cracked. :dunno:
