Coyotes 1, shooter 2!
Pepper didn't have a chance in hell against a breeding pair of coyotes! :bash: He was bottle feed from birth because his nanny was a first time mom who left him.
The female went down first, she was lactating. Then the remaining two goats had to be found after being attacked but living, all safe and secure in barn. After a short wait he came back to the scene of the crime, then he went down!
Last year it was a cougar stealing babies from the barn never could catch it. :bash: Eventually it moved on to who knows where.
The first picture is Pepper, and female coyote.
The second is intestines, and male coyote.
The third is male coyote.

Way to get'r done......kill those dirty savages. Sorry about your goat.
-
That sux. Glad you evened the score and took em both out. Hopefully the pups don't survive.
Some friends lost two goats to coyotes about this time last year in Getchell. >:(
-
Did some minor den searching and found nothing, pups probably sleeping on full stomachs. They will start yipping when they get hungry, and if within earshot I will hear them. :mgun:
-
sorry about the goat....
I heard smossy is lookin for some coyote backstraps :dunno:
-
Good luck on takin out the rest of them! We have thought about goats also, but conserned about all the preditors around our place also, would probably be in the same situation.

Talked with a warden yesterday and in the last week he has dealt with a cougar killing goats (owner shot it ) , cougar killing domestic turkeys, and a bear killing a lamb. Way too many predators up here in Stevens County!!

My in laws have 12 or so goats that free range on 12 acres of barbed wire fenced property outside of Pomeroy in the Blues foothills. They're in the middle of nowhere. They've had goats there for 8-10 years now I think and have not lost any to predators. They've got a llama that is a guard animal. That thing has killed 2 coyotes so far, both have been inside the barn. He's a killer. Won't even look twice at people, never been a problem with people, kids, etc.
Good shooting...you might consider a guard animal too.

It all makes sense now.

That's about it, Smossy.
He's a BA individual and a coyote backstrap provider if you're ever in the neighborhood.

funny, and people say coyotes wont go after calves and cows.

Well I cant take credit for the marksmanship, a very good shooting BA took care of the problem for me. I was at work 65 miles away.

I have thought about some sort of guard animal, llama, and or Great Pyrenees Dog Breed.
That's about it, Smossy.

I'm sure that they wont last long when they go in search of food, they will become food! No yipping heard yet, will search again later this afternoon.

From what I've heard the Pyrenees are great as long as you don't mind constant barking. I can't confirm or deny that, but what I've heard is they bark all the time, and when they stop barking, then there's something up. They will circle the property all night. They require a fair amount of training. My inlaws friends have 2 of them. They've lost a bunch of chickens to coyotes. I also think that donkeys are good too. Over in Pomeroy, there's a few folks that use the llamas with goats and sheep.
:dunno:
-
Boss, if you need help shooting some of those. I don't live far away...
-
Glad you got those yotes, I know a few people who claim the lamas help, but dang are they ugly to have around. :chuckle:
-
Nice job on the yotes! Wish they had not gotten your goat. Good luck on the pups.

I don't think I could deal with the barking, llamas hmmmmm, mules would be perfect, been wanting a couple to pack with anyways. Wonder if they would work?
-
Haven't heard of mules being used. Donkeys, yes.
:dunno:
-
I see llamas with cattle on the corn stubble in the Columbia Basin area. Work pretty good for coyotes. Won't do anything for cougar... DON'T get them if you have dogs you like cause the llamma can't tell the difference.!
-
I had a mule that would sure put the hurtin on cats and dogs!!! :chuckle:
