Since the nephew got his long beard during youth weekend hunt its been hit and miss for me. Lots of close encounters and finnaly got this 5 1/4" short beard bird yesterday afternoon. He came in quite to a double cluck per run with a triple yelper with a twist of the yelp chuckle. Ya its a custom sequence I came up with yesterday knowing the season is coming to a close. Desperate times call for desperate measures! :chuckle:

Nice. And varying your calling can be key late in the year. Birds have heard everyone out ther do four yelpsand quit. Sometimes when they hear it so oftwn whether hen or hunter they ignore it. Later i the year I'm not a afraid to reach out with either longer sequences or just making wierd squeaks and pops on a mouth or pot call. One year I got a tom during Mem day weekend using a long drawn out assembly yelp. All he would hit. Three or four yelp series would do nothing, but when I ran off 10-15 yelps in a row he'd double gobble and cone running. Just never know what they want to hear til they answer back.
