They are on the floor calendar for Senate confirmation. I expect Jennings to be not confirmed. I have no clue how the Jay Kehne vote will go with the republican senate.
-
Surprised there is not more interest in the members of the Fish and Wildlife Commission. David Jennings I am glad to see him leaving. How do members feel about Jay Kehne of Conservation Northwest?
-
Many of us have been pestering our elected officials with our opnions of this conflict of interest, asking for NON confirmation. I( know I have.

Many still may think this site is down.

I've been in contact with Don Benton about this. I'm confident he vote against confirmation on both.
-
BDog, do you know for which day the confirmations are set?
-
My guess is for floor votes today. The Senate convenes at 1 pm.

My email to Senator Benton:
"Hi Don,
Shortly, you guys will be voting to confirm certain members of the wildlife commission. I'm writing in opposition to the confirmations of Jay Kehne and David Jennings. Jay Kehne is a member of Conservation Northwest which, among other things, is an environmental lobbying organization. Mr. Kehne has travelled the state in support of the now out of control state wolf plan, talking to anyone who would listen about why we should have wolves and why there should be a lot of them. The organization has a definite pro-wolf stance. Mr. Jennings is an environmental wack job. He once proposed restricting/ending fishing in much of Neah Bay, one of the most productive sport fishing and commercial fisheries in the state. There's appears to be huge conflicts of interest in having these men sitting on the wildlife commission.
Both of these people have agendas which are opposed to the ideals of the North American Conservation Model, which basically says that wildlife belongs to everyone and that it is abundant today because of the use and efforts of hunters and fishers as a conservation tool of the nation's wildlife management. The sportsmen of this state pay much of the bills for the Department of Fish & Wildlife, and are watching the incredible damage that wolves are doing to domestic livestock and our wild ungulate (deer, elk, endangered woodland caribou) numbers with anxiety and an overall distrust of our wildlife commission. We feel they've been stacked with people who have environmentalist goals. This wolf plan is 50% more aggressive than those of ID and MT. Please note that the population density of MT is 16 times that of WA.
I hope you will oppose these confirmations and look forward to hearing back from you on your stance. Thanks Don, for all you do for us in Olympia.

Hewit, Evans-Parlette and Pearson voted to confirm the wolfie in Committee.
-
So does Kehne go before the full Senate?
How about Jennings, where does he stand?
-
Both scheduled for Senate floor votes today.

my message just sent....
Dear Senator Smith,
Please vote no on David Jennings confirmation. Jennings is universally considered the worst commissioner by all sports groups I am a member of. He without doubt needs to be removed from the commission for his efforts to hinder fishing and hunting opportunities in Washington. Fishing and hunting are important both culturally as well as economically and Jennings efforts do nothing to enhance either.
I would prefer a ”no “ vote on Jay Kehne because he is employed by Conservation Northwest an organization which regularly lobbies the Wildlife Commission against badly needed predator management. This is a direct conflict of interest. I have been told that there is a lot of political pressure by conservation groups to leave Kehne on the commission. If the Senate does not choose to vote “no” then let him serve without confirmation so that he knows the Senate will be watching him and can call him up for a vote in the future.
Best Regards,
-

Dear Dale,
I was watching TVW this afternoon. David Jennings name was returned to Governor Inslee this afternoon. Legislators did not vote to confirm his appointment to the WDFW Commission.
Mr. Kehne was confirmed however, Senator Roach voted nay.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Marshall

At least Jennings is gone.
Kehne supports wolves and is an employee of CN, but at least he hunts.
-
sad to see Jay Kehne confirmed. at least they took a vote i guess
-
Now we have it on record who is for Kehne and who is against.

I'm proud of Don Benton for voting the right way on both. Writing does make a difference. When I first talked to them on this topic two years ago, his aid told me that normally, gubernatorial appointments are unopposed out of courtesy. I responded that courtesy to her highness may be on the Republican platform, but not on mine. Don and I have since had a face-to-face discussion on the wolf program and I believe he gets it. His vote confirms that for me.
-
I think Kehne was only appointed & not confirmed.
-
That was a confirmation vote. He cannot be removed until his term expires.
-
another reply back...
Dale – The Governor asked that the nomination of David Jennings be rescinded, which the Senate agreed to yesterday. Jay Kehne was confirmed, as an at-large member, rather than an Eastern Washington member.
Thank you for sharing your concerns,
State Senator Christine Rolfes

It beats the heck out of Jennings being on the commission. I would think this is directly related to phone calls and letters from us sportsmen.

I was speaking of Khene not being an E Wa. member, but at large. Good that we don't have a West thinker in an East position.
