Nicely done MLB and Bone...great looking animals and weapons!

I'm loving them guys keep them coming. Quick question, will 55# be enough to take down an elk?

Treekiller, You've killed more trophies with a traditional than most people get in a lifetime of modern. Hats off to you man. I'm envious!
-
Bone, You also, you guys put the hunt in hunting.

Tree Killer - Is that Camo Clan you're wearing in that second photo? I'm digging the WWII camo. But surprised there is no Tiger Stripe/Vietnam camo. Maybe it's time for vintage military camo to come back :dunno:

A couple with my Damon Howatt 53# recurve

Nice elkpack!

You guys put me to shame. Nice animals

57 lb Border Super Black Douglas

Most excellent elkpack!

I had some Tiger Stripe camo, but it wore out about the same time at my original TreBark camo did. I've been slowly weaning myself off designer camo.
I think it was some Woolrich wool camo I had in the mid 80's? Liteweight, but quiet and pretty nice to wear in wet weather. If I remember correctly it got washed or dried....and never fit the same! :IBCOOL:
The snow camo is something I bought years ago, just made out of sweatshirt material, but it's very effective...and still fits me! :chuckle:

I have a few questions for you guys.
1. Recurve or longbow?
2. What bow should I get within a $500 dollar budget? Custom?
3. What broadheads would you use?
4. Are 3rivers trad only arrows any good?
5. What accessorys should I get?
Thank you for your time. Love all the pics.

1) personal preference ... I shoot a recurve best
2) Lots of good used custom bows available in the classifieds at tradgang dot com for $500 or less.
3) I've used the 3-blade Wensel Woodsmans since they came out. Shot and killed lots of animals with 2-blade heads, but the bloodtrails were sometimes skimpy.
4) I've never used 3Rivers arrows, I imagine they're decent. I've made my own arrows for almost 20 years. Started out with P.O.C., then made my own doug fir shafts with an arrow plane that John Strunk made, now I buy shafts from Surewood Shafts.
5) Bowstringer, tab or glove, a nock plier and bow square, quiver of some variety...bow, side, or back. Some guys wear an armguard, but I haven't hit my arm with the string in years...even wearing heavy clothes.

TreeKiller pretty much summed it up.
As for 3Rivers arrows. I ordered once. Several of the arrows had serious dents in them as if they were hit by something or something was dropped on them. Did contact them about it and they said take pictures and send. Could never take a picture that showed the damage. I order most of my arrows from Northwest Archery. Can make my own but I get satisfaction out of supporting a company/ family that really helped get archery hunting legal in our state and legitimized elsewhere. So I plug wherever I can. That and the arrows Suzann makes are a work of art. Never had a bad one.
You may also want to check ebay. It can get frustrating as there sometime is a lot of competition for bows. I have bid on several that went for more than they should.
I hunt mostly with a custom Black Widow longbow and often with a Pacific Yew Stick bow I made. My main practice bow is a Martin Savana that I got cheap on ebay. It is a good bow. I also have an older bear grizzly recurve and some others. It is just a matter or preference. I have seen and shot some sweet recurves that if I had the bucks I would buy in a heart beat. That said just starting out buy what you can afford and practice often. Trad shooting is about shooting correctly not about how much you spent on your gear.. If your bow and arrows are set up reasonably correct than any problems you have are form. It can be very frustrating.
The pics are grate. Thanks for sharing everyone.
-
Great animals everyone. Treekiller, you have taken some great blacktails!
-
Congrats to you guys. Some nice looking animals in those pics.
I shot my first 5 deer with a recurve. Very satisfying to say the least.
