Washington groups launch fight against gun control initiative

A coalition of some of the state’s firearms community leaders has launched a grassroots campaign to counter the well-financed gun control initiative backed by a Seattle-based gun control group, while also preventing firearms confiscation “by any government agency…without due process.”

That does it. I'm screwed

Now, let's not derail this thread.  We're in this to beat this gun control bunch arrogantly calling itself the "Washington Alliance for Gun RESPONSIBILITY."

What these people call "responsibility" translates to registration and ultimately a ban attempt, and they know it.

I'm all in to defeat this misguided initiative!

First, keep up with ALL the news.
In addition to reading my column(s) on this, keep an eye on such stuff as ran in the Seattle Times Thursday:

http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2021226280_gunrightsinitiativexml.html (http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2021226280_gunrightsinitiativexml.html)

and read the reader comments.  They're very instructive about the mentality we're up against.

Gun control Goliath cries foul as David fights back

 :chuckle:  :IBCOOL:

Within hours of yesterday’s announcement that Washington State gun rights leaders were mounting a defense against a big-money gun control initiative launched last week, the well-funded Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility (WAGR) was crying foul in a blanket e-mail appealing for more money to pad its $1 million-plus war chest.

Reading some of the comments, two things strike me. If the article in the Seattle Times is any representation, nowhere near 85% are in favor of this new law. Secondly, the ease with which stupid people would throw away the 2nd Amendment boggles my mind. Talk of repeal in that article's comment section is unbelievable. These people have no clue.

they have no hearts, souls or brains, either.
If it were their oxes being gored, they would be crying — nay, screaming — to the heavens for one and all to come to their defense.

Alas, that's not possible.  The Secretary of State REQUIRES that the petitions be a specific size and most people cannot download to a printer for that size. Most printers do 8 1/2x11

On the plus side:

YOU MAY E-MAIL REQUESTS FOR PETITIONS TO:

I-591 campaign kickoff at WAC Puyallup gun show

Backers of Initiative 591 will officially kick off their signature drive this weekend at the Washington Arms Collectors’ (WAC) gun show in Puyallup, as thousands of gun owners will gather at the Western Washington State fairgrounds for the two-day event that opens at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Oh, cripes, where to start?

First and foremost:  Our rights are NOT FOR SALE to a handful of rich elitist dilletantes who think they can make better decisions for us than us.  Their billions of dollars can't buy my privacy either.

Second: I-591 is simple.  No gun confiscation without due process (no more post-Katrina type gun grabs around here) and background checks must be in compliance with a uniform national standard.

There is much to worry about from any initiative that stretches 15 pages.

There is very little to worry about from an initiative that covers a half--page and spells out succinctly what it will do and not allow.

Gun show brings out grassroots for I-591 kick-off

 :IBCOOL:

It may not be the biggest crowd the Washington Arms Collectors ever attracted to its monthly gun show at the fairgrounds in Puyallup, but they are an enthusiastic bunch and Saturday morning saw WAC members signing Initiative 591, the “Protect Our Gun Rights” (POGR) measure announced earlier in the week.

Wellllllll...... if you're a member, you might suggest that to them. So far, NRA has not made a public peep about 591.

If they DO jump in, it could be a game changer.

Bodies v. big bucks in background check battle with national implications

They came from across the state, from Bellingham to Vancouver, converging over the weekend on the Puyallup fairgrounds, to sign copies of Initiative 591 and get blanks to take back home, where they will have neighbors, friends and local gun shops fill up the sheets; a grassroots army stirred to action by the fear of Seattle-based big money buying away their gun rights.

Another important player joins I-591 campaign

The Washington State Rifle & Pistol Association has thrown its support to the effort to put Initiative 591 before the state legislature in January, Examiner learned Friday morning, wrapping a week that has been brutal and embarrassing to the gun control crowd, from bad “gun study” karma for Barack Obama to bad press for Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn….

We should all be asking, "Where can I sign, and how can I help?"

This initiative needs to succeed with far more signatures than required.

The real problem, and it is woeful, is that so many of "our" folks can find any excuse to NOT sign an initiative, or to sign the wrong one (I-594) .

I was at the NRA convention in Seattle in 1997, the year they ran I-696, the gun control measure that got shot down 71-29 percent..

I saw gun owners signing the damned thing right outside the state convention center. One guy said he just believed it ought to be on the ballot.  Others had no clue what they were signing.

How stupid is that???  :bash:  :bash:  :bash:

And you are quite right.  I would like to see 400,000 signatures on I-591.

That, in itself, sends a powerful message.

Good idea CF but The Whole Sale Sports in Lacey closed down. Maybe Cabela`s will be interested in having one. Cascade arms on Martin Way might be interested in having one if they don`t already.

Did any of the stores that won`t allow them give a reason why they wouldn`t?

I-591 campaign picks up key law enforcement endorsement

Backers of an initiative that prohibits gun confiscation without due process of law, and requires that background checks only be done in accordance with a uniform national standard today are reporting they picked up a key law enforcement endorsement, and there’s a hint of déjà vu attached to it.
