Hi I drew the Chewuch late deer tag and am starting my research, I have hunted the entire area during the general season
any good info for a decent spot during the 11/1-11/20 tag period ?
Never hurts to ask, PM me if your not open to general post
thanks in advance.
-
Good luck man. If you've hunted the entire area during general hunt you probably know it better then most who drew the tag.

:yeah:
-
Thanks guys
I'll do what I can
-
So you're the one that got my tag... >:( :chuckle:Good Luck.
-
Yup
Lady on the WDFW told me Pearrygin but when I looked it said Chewuch
so a road or 2 west is all
-
Wolves are pounding the Sweetgrass/Goatcreek, upper Cub area pretty good. Not sure how it will effect the lower range (your timeframe). Seems like something big always shows up though. If you are a good hunter, I would avoid the Rendevous cluster. A whole bunch of tag holders find themselves hovering over the small parcel there thats open to hunting.(most of its private and the bucks know how to read). Huge area and 50% of the tag holders are staring at each other in binos and leapfrogging on the road. Pretty silly.
-
Yup totally get it thanks for the wolves info
I know a few spots beside rendevous
-
My 19 year old son drew the same tag this year with 3 points. It will be his first buck so we are pretty excited.
-
I also drew Chewuch quality deer as a group leader with my Bro in Law as the second. It took 11 years of waiting but We finally scored. Yea !!
-
Good luck guys, lets hope the wolf thing mentioned isnt a huge impact
-
Those two lookout wolves get around quite well. (if only I had that sarcasm font). This is one of the least effected units up there, but their presence is felt by all but Fitkin
-
Fitkin is about as honest as Obama.
Good luck with the tag. You should be fine. How many points did you guys have?
-
I also pulled this tag. I have plenty of knowledge of the area as I have hunted it for years. Really looking forward to it as it should be a great hunt! 13 points used. I almost view this as an oil tag.

East Chewuch Rd, LOL
One of the biggest bucks I have seen was taken was literally taken after crossing East Chewuch after the hunter went buy, they saw it in the rear view mirror, stopped and shot it when a legal distance from the road.
They had pics on here a few years back.
We saw wolf tracks and what we believed to be a black wolf up Fallon Creek a last year, and heard them howling two years in a row up Sweetgrass Butte.
-
I think I've seen that buck pic
I'm going to be looking at over near Boulder creek on the eastern boundary
Should be a fun hunt
all depends on weather

Good plan. Sounds like you know the area.
-
I want that tag so stinking bad, LOL
-
Boy no kidding...i am 9 years running loser for this tag. I know the area very well. Have been hunting there for 20 plus year! Not usre i'll ever draw this tag! Was hoping one of these years before my dad gets to old to go anymore! Good luck...the holy grail of tags in my opinion!

Im confused, I thought that description was reserved for Desert and Entiat?

Well then show a brother some love and PM a couple of hot areas ! hah
-
So anyone got any success pics ?
I see the Entiat thread and would like to see some late season pics,, besides the lady that got the monster near Boulder rd
-
Nephew was cutting wood in that area this past weekend and saw a monster that was "probably 27 inches already" according to him No pics available but I have no reason to doubt him with the deer he has killed already. JUst north of little trickle creek on the back side of notelling ridge
-
Up near east overshoe, past the laces
sweet thanks

-We keep the okanogan pics on the down low! ;)
-
Hopefully 2MANY will share a special picture someday from this hunt.
-
Will say this he goes up the road far enough that it narrows down to almost a 2 track and the deer according to him was just past where the big boulder has gotten stuck in the ditch on the left
-
This has been my second choice tag for seven years. Maybe I'll get lucky next year. With wolves in the area, and so much cattle run in the area, I'm sure this is going to blow up into an issue pronto. But by the time the late hunt comes around with the big migrators coming down, this would still be a good tag to have if you know the area.
-Steve
-
Way to go Maxwell! Ghost points for me this year.
-
Thanks Andy
I will get it done, jeez as unbelievable as it seems I drew a cow rifle tag also for Taneum

He was putting his cows out last weekend (two ago I guess). I asked him if he was trying to feed the wolves. :chuckle:

Hmmm, must not be an area known for big mulies huh ?

Is he the same guy who puts his out up Cub Creek?
I seem to walk up on at least one of those dang cows every year. Amazing how low to the ground a 1200 pond cow can get, LOL
-
My cousin killed this Buck in 04 in chewuch. Not a very good pic but it scored right around 180

An early July Buck. Not a monster but he has a nice start.
-
Mike, Where's that buck from your avatar from?
-
Nice pics guys.
-
I had two customers draw the tag in 2010. There was good snow and a lot of nice bucks. They both had itchy trigger fingers and killed bucks on the 1st and 2nd day. They drove around and video'd for the next 5 days and were sickened at the amount and size of some of the bucks they saw. I saw the video and there were some nice 180+ bucks that were in view of the road. My point is: Don't shoot on the first day unless he's a monster. Especially if there is snow pushing them out of the high country. :twocents:
-
Mike, Where's that buck from your avatar from?
Joe, that's my 2011 late tag buck.

I meant to come over and camp/photograph in the Chewuck last year during late season and couldn't fit it. If I don't go Elk huntin, then I'm going to try that this year.
-Steve
-
Thanks for the advice and the pics
Love the buck tending pic bone, very cool
I appreciate it.
Hope fully I will have some good pics to post In Nov.
I will stay up there in the valley for the whole permit season and would like one with a wow factor
I will know it when I see it.
-
MM
Have a great hunt and come back with a monster!
-
Thanks I am psyched already, 11/1 is a long way off.
My boss asked me when I gave him a leave chit if I was serious about using 187 hrs of annual leave
-
Madmax, you said you hunt in the vicinity during the general season, remember that allot of the higher elevation roads will be in deep snow in November. We go up to the Town lighting ceremony the weekend after Thanksgiving almost every year. Some years, the road leading to Pearygin Creek above the state park has 2 feet of snow on it. Other years there is hardly any on the Winthrop side of of valley but a ton of snow on the west side of the valley.
-
Congratulations! My sister and I drew that tag this year also. It will be her first deer. Might see some members out hunting this fall. Saw some beauties this past fall on my late white tail hunt, can't wait!!!!!
-
Thanks for info on snow
I understand and will have 4 chains with me
good luck on the tag for your sister buddy
see you all there

Good job man!
-
I left some sweat in that unit a couple years ago.
Here's my little buck holding my 31" outside buck.
The pictures don't do this buck's mass any justice.
The fat main beam's up top are 7" around.
Enjoy your hunt.
Cheers.

Madmax-- Have you ever hunted mule deer in the rut? cause if not it can be kind of overwelming..... My best advice of hunting Muley's in the rut is DONT GET A ITCHY TRIGGER FINGER... If your going for a big buck its really hard i mean really hard to pass on 4 points all day long, 24-26inch mule deer buck looks pretty big especially with a white back drop "snow"... Good luck, you wont need any help if you already know the area.. :twocents:

EP
nope never have hunted the mule deer rut, just blacktails, although I have been elk hunting in unit 270 in Montana during the deer rut and it was unreal to watch and be close to some stud mule deer.
I have a good buddy that owns a place in the Methow valley who is going to let me stay at the cabin for the whole season, he will be with me and I trust his judgement.
I want a solid buck, not looking for B&C, nice dark horned big solid 4x4 would be fine.
I want the wow factor and will know it when I see it.
I have passed before, and I have killed a lot of deer, and god willing I'd like a nice shoulder mount mulie at my place on the wall.
I know you cant kill a big one when your skinning the small one
Only time and the weather will tell.
Thanks for the kind words and good advice from all.

Its good you got a buddy going with you to judge for ya, cause like i said its overwelming... You well see bucks like crazy, i had basically that same tag a few years ago and I had some good muley guys with me and passed on 16 different 4points in 3 days, then on day 3 i shot a 25inch buck, that i wished i passed on now, my trigger finger got itchy and I thought i could pass, i was by myself when i shot that buck and didnt have my buddy to say oh no we well get bigger... & that was my first time hunting the muley rut.. You almost need 2 tags, the 1st tag should just get the jitters out... lol.. Have fun & good luck to ya!... Be strong!... Hold out, lasts 7 days well be your best, I wouldnt even get there tell the 10th if I were you!... :twocents:
-
geezus ! and I still have 4 months left,
with general deer and elk in between
I also drew a Taneum rifle cow tag so I am going to use that to hopefully dump some meat so I can hold out
love it
-
would love to get that tag how long it take you to draw it man ?
-
9 years on the deer
first time draw for rifle on the cow
usually bowhunt elk
-

A Muley 4 point with droppers, and eye guards?
