Backdoor results appear to be up in Idaho...I drew a mule deer tag. You have to go in like you are buying a tag/license and if you drew there will be a tab that says controlled hunts where you can buy your tag. If you drew nothing, there will be no tab. I don't know how exactly they conduct the draw...if you see that you can buy a tag you definitely drew...if you see nothing, things aren't looking good but maybe they are still posting???
-
Nice work!
I'm completely convinced that it's not that I have bad luck, its Outdoor Central has something against me.
Good luck to all who will draw!

Hunting partner pulled the same tag. We spent a lot of time in there last year (16 days) and saw some smoker bulls. Got one 360" we're going back after. 300"+ are dime a dozen in there...

I'd say a 180 class buck is decent trophy, and he passed larger bucks while looking for 200". ;)

Ya, I do to!! LOL....................

I don't think I could pass a 190 class buck in range, even if a 200" buck was in site but just out of range. :chuckle:
-
I don't think I could tell the difference between a 190 and a 200. Good luck to all the lucky tag holders.

Sure you can Jack, its 10. :chuckle:

Girlfriend drew 40-1 Antelope, hunt no. 4006!
Realize it's not a unit for monsters, but it'll be a good one to break us into antelope hunting. We're building points in other states for quality down the road. Her family is located in Nampa and Marsing, so they'll be able to get a little bit of scouting in for us ahead of time!

I saw 1 really big bull 2 years ago in there. Last year didn't see much. Hunting area full of deer no elk in there.
Will be girlfriends first ever elk hunt.. 300" won't be slipping by her :chuckle:

I know right where you were at there's definitely more deer in that one area! We did glass up two bulls around 2 miles away from there though! Wouldn't want to go after them without horses though!
We'll likely be hauling in a walltent then backpacking out from there into some areas.

We are backpacking in 5 mi.. Hunting from there for first 8 days.. We may have horses on standby for packing elk out. A local bowhunter told me where to hunt up there if we drew. He had close to 90 bulls on film! And they went 3 for 4 all bulls 320-340.. He passed 45 bulls estimated in the search for the bull he was after.. Ate the tag

thats a thought I am pondering..Im already going in on this hunt with a vid cam, manfrotto tripod, gopro3 and small pod. I have my Canon 30d with the kit lens, but contemplating it due to weight. :dunno: we'll see

When do they do the second drawing?
-
August
-
How the 2nd draw work. Is it just the leftover tags that didnt have enough applicaints???

Leftover tags for unsought after permits and permits that were drawn and the folks failed to purchase the tag before the deadline.
-
The deadline to purchase those tags is July 31st buy the way.
-
The one good thing about the second draw is that nonresidents have the same odds as residents.

As unlikely as it is to draw one of those quality tags, why would someone pay the money to apply and then not purchase the tag? Its not expensive but still about $200 just to apply. :dunno:
-
I don't think it's the noresidents that fail to purchase or give up the tags. For the residents the control hunt is real similar in price with WA special permits.
With ten present of alotted tags to nonresedents I bet very few of them go back.
Your right on with the cost. Nonres lic, two control apps and convenace fee and its real close to 200.

No unit 11 elk tag for me......

We put in as a group for elk. Would I be able to see the controlled hunt tab or just the person who actually submitted the paperwork?

Aug 1st is deadline

Thx! Those are the easy parts. The hard part is figuring out how to keep in my better half's good graces while I'm out on my WY elk (archery), ID elk (rifle), WA elk/cow (rifle), WA deer (archery) on top of taking my kids on their WA deer/elk hunts (late mule and cow elk plus general deer).

The precedent should have been set early in the your relationship, after years of marriage its considered the norm to be gone most weekends and several full weeks between Sept 1 and the new year. ;)
