well this weekend I went on a scouting trip in the pasayten wilderness .. not by my supprise it was nothing less than beautiful amazing country ! god spent a little extra time when he was working on the pasayten :chuckle: anyways did few hikes and scouted around for the high buck season and came across a buck a little out of my usuall league . mind you this was my first encounter with the pasayten. my first two bucks 2011-2012 were 15' and 16' always catch myself on the 'backcountry ' thread drooling over peoples deer so I decided to get out and take a look myself . anways I wanted to share the buck I found and ask just how big you thing he will be come September ?? also added a cool pic for fun but thaughts on the buck ??? sorry for blurry pics 900 yards away :P

Awesome country! Love the pics...I'd pull the trigger

Appears you were pretty high, so I'm going to assume that snow is pretty much gone from 6,000 feet down? Thanks for the report...it's getting about that time when the 'fever' starts!

yea I was... umm I would say about that yea not exactly sure.. but if your familiar with harts pass , theres snow at the ranger station , had to park just passed the ranger station and hike in from there.. ohhhh yea I would say that fever is hitting me pretty bad haha after seeing him its getting hard to focus at work hahaha

That snow berm around the corner there usually lasts until mid-late July. Spent many days, (and nights) in that country. My old backyard!

From the looks of the scenery I figure you went out either the west fork or over windy pass.
Regardless of which of those trails you took, if either, be sure you have a bear tag for the high hunt. Just saying from when I packed hunters in for the outfitters.
If you can get into the area a week before the high hunt I would get in and put up a camp because a couple of the outfitters work that area hard during the high hunt, lots of camps and being GMU 203 it doesn't open til the high hunt....
Good luck in Sept

Welll.... Got out and spent 4 days 7 miles in and got skunked :( saw 2 bull Moose and few does but not a single buck :/ being a beginner to the high hunt I guess I don't know what they do during the fall months what they like to do or where they go to hang out :/ I tried going vertical hiked up for 3-4 hours got into some serious sign and fresh sign but nothing .. Got rained out a lot and was wet most of the 4 days the high hunt is not any kind of easy ! I was ready to hunt hard but was very demoralizing not seeing any antler except on a moose :) I will not give up tho I'll be back at the high buck next year !! Maybe it will pay off in time ! But beautiful amazing country non the lease and it was a huge learning expirience !! Hats off to all the high buck hunters it's a true challenge !!
-
It will pay off  cool pictures
-
Hey robertsjd....I saw the same moose. I was the guy camped out on the beach by the lake. Cool moose huh! Went into the lake right by my camp. That moose was actually in my camp the night before. Scared the crap out of me. I thought he was going to trample my tent.
That area was pretty disappointing as far as deer. We needed to get back in to the next lake higher up but the weather was bad that way. Fogged in the whole time. I ended up leaving the same day you guys did.
-
Don't computers have basic editing software in Marysville? :chuckle:
-
Gorgeous ground, can't believe you couldn't find one stompin around in the burn. It looks to be in the perfect stage of regrowth to hold mega deer. Guess the moose ran them out. Keep at it. Hunting in the wilderness is a special thing and it takes time to figure it out
-
Haha nice grizzly was nice talking to ya out there !!!Yea it was pretty disappointing :/ hmm I wonder if the moose do run the deer out ??? Would make sense . Ya that's exactly what I thaught the regrowth was like perfect! But the weather was just nasty wish I coulda got up higher more often and searched them areas but there's always next time ! Now I just gotta hunt hard in modern !!
Ohh and I uploaded them from my iPhone !! Didn't know it was gonna be sideways until I posted it haha . Sorry about the sore necks !
-
There was actually some other hunters from the forum in there before us. They took a few nice bucks out of the area. I'm sure it was mostly the hunting pressure and not the moose that drove the rest out. You can see from their pics on other threads in the forum that they were in the same place we were.
It was good to see some other forum members like you and the other guys out there trying to get it done in the nasty. Successful or not, at least we weren't out glassing from our trucks with a warm cup of coffee in our hand bitching about not plugging one. Thumbs up to you and everyone else out in the wilderness gettin it on!!!!!
-
Gawwww !!! Damnit !!! Don't tell me that hahah next year I'll get out on opener then lol !! Yes man exactly ! We got out and gave it our all !! That's all that matters !! Haha
-
anybody ever been to hidden lakes, quartz lake or tungsten lake? and some mighty cool country and nice fish in all of them. I would do pics but don't know how. quartz had some 20 plus inch trout in it but it is a days walk to it, mike w

Just a piece of advice. Don't post pictures next year and give out your location. Chances are someone got educated on where to shoot a nice buck and went in and shot him or shot at him or disturbed the area and chased him out. Another lesson learned. First rule of the high hunt, don't talk about the high hunt.
-
yea hah thanks .. this year i will tackle it differently none the less i will get back in there and hopefully be able to post a pic of my first high buck ! andddddddddd its only febuary and i cant stop thinking about it

Hmmm. Sounds to me like you have some kind of condition.
Acute High Country Buck Disease?
-
Get your spotting scope out and get higher up. Chances are theres a shooter buck in there, you just didnt see him bedded under a tree in all that big country.
-
that's exactly what we where doing but then mother nature through a curve ball and ruined it all ahaha but that's hunting man . ill learn how to tame the beast eventually it was my first year and ill definitely be back
-
i can not wait till this year. itll be my first time doing a high buck hunt in the pasayten wilderness. any advice for a first time High buck hunter
