Post by: BIGINNER on July 18, 2013, 07:42:09 AM
I want ti give my wife some ideas to try on how to carry her gun.

she wears dresses quite a bit.  and when she wears pants, she usually has a sort of lose top on.

do any of you carry in your purse?

she has a small ruger lcp .380  its very small and fits in the palm of your hand.

Type in "bra concealed carry holster" on google images....
Dont want to put a link because....of well....the obvious....
I'm no female, but have a friend that carries using this style.  It works great for her and you can never tell she is carrying once she found the perfect position for it.
PS- Dont stare to long at the pics....

I know you are on fb have her go look at this link.......there are others out there.

I dont own small frame pistols so just wear a regular shoulder holster....it is not ideal as my boobs are still in the way but it is moderately comfortable when hiking and stuff since I dont wear belts so belt holsters and waist band holsters are out....

As stated before, I carry the same firearm. Mine is 95% in my purse. I also carry with one in the chamber, as I don't want to have to bother with trying to rack a shell if I need to use quickly. I keep the LCP in a small pocket of the inside of the purse (most purses have one) and this way I know exactly where it is and don't have to fumble around searching for it.
When it's on my body, I use a small fabric holster and it's clipped onto the waistband of my jeans/shorts/slacks. If I'm wearing a dress or skirt for an evening out or something, I make sure any purse I might be using is big enough for the LCP. I seriously will not buy a handbag that can't hold it.

Belly band easier than a bra holster in a dress? absolutely not, well, at least for her.  She says she likes it because it's so easy to get to, either through the neck hole or arm holes, depending on the attire.

I carry with a belly band and like it a lot when wearing guy clothing,  Never have worn anything that connects the top piece to the bottom where there was no opening, a dress, to see how hard it would be.  But I cant imagine it would be easy.

YEAH,.. WE WILL HAVE TO DO SOME EXPLORING AND TRY OUT ALL TYPES OF WAYS FOR HER TO CARRY.  I THINK BEST BET IS HAVING SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF HOLSTERS FOR HER SO SHE CAN PICK AND CHOOSE DEPENDING ON WHAT SHE'S WEARING.

I was going to say that as well, everyone is different and depending on what she wears at that time, she my want to carry differently.
Many options is always better then trying to work only one for every situation.
Kudos for getting her involved with conceal carry.

I tell women that carrying in your purse is not a good idea.  If someone steals your purse, they've GOT YOUR GUN!   :twocents:

I use a conceal carry purse most of the time, which isn't the best of ideas IF left unattended.. however, how I am with my purse it's either always in sight next to me, or my hand is physically on my gun (out of sight, no one notices) on the back of the purse where the gun pocket is when I'm walking. It just looks like any other woman carrying a purse. If they grab my purse, my gun is coming out in my hand and they're gunna be sorry.

www.facebook.com/countrycouture1 (http://www.facebook.com/countrycouture1) has some cute ones if you look for the ones that say "conceal carry"

I don't like the waste holster I found out, I'm still looking for a belly one. In a dress I think the bra holster would be rather difficult to get to, a bra alone is difficult let alone to the bottom of one. Just my  :twocents: on what works/doesn't work for me.

I get a kick out of guys telling women not to carry their heater in a purse, like we have any experience with carrying a purse!

I think carrying in a purse is a great idea.  It also gives ladies quite an advantage if used correctly.

If you are aware, you can get a head start as soon as you feel uncomfortable, just as Smossy's Girl said.  You can draw the pistol and shoot at 3 yards in well under a second with minimal training.  My wife and I tried it out, on the timer at the range.  She was pulling .8's in no time from the purse!  The key is getting a head start, if something doesn't look or feel right.

So, if you are at the grocery store and walking out into the dark parking lot and get that "feeling" or see something you don't like, a gal can just get a grip on her pistol without anyone knowing anything at all.  I think it's an advantage that the ladies have and they should use it.

Belt type holsters aren't really made for petite women in the first place and are usually uncomfortable and lend to the CCW being left at home.  I would rather them carry in a purse then not at all.

what do you carry? if you don't mind me asking.  the cool thing about my wife's lcp is its so small it can almost by put anywhere without being visible or creating a visible bulge in her clothes

Sig P938 - slightly longer, but not much bigger. It's the ease of access to me.. If she wears more dresses than anything it just seems on-body holsters might be harder unless a secure thigh holster  :dunno:

Purse carry winds up being the most practical if its warm weather. IMHO belt carry is best for everyone for quickness of draw and reholstering. However, belt carry becomes conspicuous with any lady with a voluptuous waist (ie hour glass figure--not necessarily fat$.
