Title: Stanwood hunting
Post by: Fishnclifff on October 20, 2008, 05:32:01 PM
New guy here. :hello:
I used to live on Camano island. Hunted ducks and snow geese in Stanwood and Skagit for years.
Moved to Vancouver Wa. a few years back. Now I hunt Ridgefield and Suavie Island.

Can anyone tell me how Smith farm area is for ducks and geese. I might be making a trip up this weekend instead of looking for deer.
Thanx.

I havent been to the smith farm in a few years but the last few times i did go it was a joke.  If i were you i would check the tides and jump the channels at big ditch if you catch a good tide you can get into a lot of shooting.

Triple ditto on Smith. Smith can get busy!! Never had much luck there. I cant say that I recommend driving all the way up there just to go to Smith Farms.

Well made a Smith Farm trip with my brother thanksgiving weekend.
We got a wild hair up our arse and decided to go north.
My son was tooo tired from working graves to join us. :'(
Friday morn we got there early and got the only blind in the field :IBCOOL:.
We had about 20 birds in the decoys at shooting time.
First flare we dropped 3 birds. Later, while looking for  another bird, we found a dead bird and upon further review, discovered my brother had killed 2 birds with 1 shot, during the first volley.
All in all we got 13 birds Friday, a mix of mallard, widgeon and teal, Sat, thanks to the pheasant stumblers and weather, we got 5 birds for the 2 hrs we hunted.
Oh by the way, I read a posting at Smith farms that said they are closing the pheasant release site there. :IBCOOL:

I've shot a number of ducks at Smith Farm. I would say that on a weekend you need to be there first in order to even have a chance at getting a good spot. Otherwise showing up on a weekday will certainly net better results. I'll be going up there come mid December to enjoy a little bit of the fun. I really like that spot.

Look in this pamphlet http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/water/wwapheas.htm

It's just across the slough from Stanwood on Camano Island.

Nothing to write home about but the birds do fly regularly in that region...

Go through stanwood across the bridge to camano island.
Turn left on the road on the bridge. Follow the road to the end.
You can walk the hedge rows to the west or the dikes.
Hav fun
