I'm a little confused by the regs here.
Hunter Orange is required for bear hunting only if you're bear hunting during the Elk/Deer modern firearm season?
So if I'm out hunting for bear next week I don't need to wear orange? :dunno:
Granted, orange is always a good idea - I'm not saying I don't plan to wear it, just looking for clarification.
Thanks

correct....no orange needed except during overlapping open modern seasons for deer and elk

I am not an avid bear hunter but when I do go out in August I don't wear my orange. It is just another layer of clothes and I already sweat enough as is. :chuckle:

I don't wear it....however....i have a light vest to put on if I'm dealing with or transporting a bear. I put it on me as wells Mr. Bear....dont' wanna get shot.

Exactly. I have a blaze orange flap on my pack just is case as well as flagging tape if needed.

Agree with h20hunter. Have orange along for the ride for when the animal is down. As soon as I shoot I put on a orange hat to get ready for the trip out. Orange vest over my pack and anything else that looks black to someone else out there.

I carry two orange vests in my pack with me bear hunting. As soon as I shoot at a bear I put it on. As soon as I recover the bear I put one high in the brush where I am rolling him around. (They always seem to die in the brush) Then wear one while packing out as well. I wear camo and no dark clothing. A guy I took hunting one day showed up wearing a black sweatshirt. :bdid: Common sense aint so common.

Bumping this for no reason other than a good reminder a few days before go time. Be safe, hunt smart, ID your target, know your weapon and kill a few bears.

Ran into a guy last year wearing all black clothing hunting with a recurve. He said he wears black so that he can get closer to a bear by making it think he is a bear. I told him its a good way to get shot. He disagreed. Whatever not my funeral. Positively ID your target before pulling the trigger! You can't bring that bullet back

I always wear orange, better to be safe than sorry, there are people out there with a half a brain. :chuckle:

Anytime you're hunting during modern rifle deer and/or elk season. Doesn't matter what you're hunting... Bear, Bobcat, Cougar, Coyote, Deer, Elk, Fox, Grouse, Hare, Rabbit or Raccoon.
Also during any upland game bird hunting with modern firearm.
Picked up a lightweight orange vest at outdoor emporium today - hopefully I'll need it this weekend!
