How is the quality of the released birds?
-
Hunted the Cottonwoods release site. It was more like cheating than hunting, but the dogs got some work and so did the shooters. Bird didn't want to fly and when they did they flew straight.

The release is alright, but the birds are stupid, so it is kinda cheatin' but after a couple of weeks the released bird are shot and only the smarter ones remain along with the few wild.

Where is the cottonwood release site?

I took my 1 year old lab out for her first pheasant hunt on Sunday and she did great. I guess all the time we have spent training is paying off. It was the only bird we saw but she found him and flushed him and i knocked him down.(https://hunting-washington.com/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-4196)

The top left one - really should let them get more than 15 yards away.
The cottonwoods site is in Selah - about 15 minutes from my house :IBCOOL:
That dog is a rescue from the yakima humane society. Its a good thing he had it in his blood, because he makes me look good. Never had a shorthair before, it is the most fun bird hunting I have ever had.

my bro blew one of those pheasants up at about 10 yards in the cottonwood release site last weekend lol.
if you are short on cash and don't have any shells just take a hammer to one of the pheasant release sites and bonk the pheasants on the head...they are so stupid. you could probably catch them if you have a fishing net.

That is great to hear someone who is willing to save a dog like you did and have it work out.
Don't let anyone give you crap about the released birds. Because of where I live I have been able to find some public land that I can find wild birds on. I also have the advantage of knowing when the farmers are cutting their crops. Most people don't have those advantages and the bird numbers are so low that the release sites are needed. There is no shame hunting those sites, heck those might be the only birds around in the near future.
