Well, Just got back from checking the cams again and I think we found a prospect. Probably a little early to be predicting a pattern but the pics were cool!
Dang Bear screwed with the camera and moved it and I did not get any more pics! :bash:
-
That one bull is a beauty
-
That's the one I have my eye on!
-
Great pics!!! Will be checking mine in two weeks..
-
Nice pics! That's a beautiful bear and a great bull. I have the muzzy tag and was up learning the roads today. We didn't see any animals.
-
Go shoot that dang bear so you can get more pics of elk. :chuckle: very nice bull!
-
Good looking bull, good luck getting him
-
Brian are you setting you sights on the 7/10 bull :chuckle:
-
He would be a last day bull! I am really looking fro something respectable for the wall. Doesn't have to be a monster. 280 and up and I will be a happy camper. That masher in the pic I posted would be nice though.
-
Kill that big arse bull then come back and hunt the gut pile for that hogg bear! What a cool area to be able to hunt. Good luck!
-
Good luck to you hope to see some pics.
-
Sweet pics!! I would love to take that bear! And that big bull is a shooter for sure in my book! I wonder how much more he will grow? Thoughts? :dunno:
-
Nice pics
-
Thanks, We will be back up checking again the weekend after next and possibly even this coming weekend to see if that pesky bear is leaving the camera alone!!!! I put out a salt mineral block instead so hopefully he does not like that!
-
Hey bri, I'll come up with you and kill that bear for ya!! Gona have to wait till it opens though, that is a bad azz pic of that bear. Good bull too.
-
Ive got about 300 more pics of that bear as well!

You will break the 300" mark if u get him! He looks pregnant to me! Big body on that guy.
-
What do you experts think he would score should we be so fortunate? :dunno:
-
Not an expert, but guessing 300-305
-
That bear is decent size too !!! Hopefully you can bag one of the 2 up or if not both :tup ....

I didn't look at the date. Yeah he probably grew a little more, but only the main beam and G5's appear to be balled up.

That's a fine bull ...score means nothing :dunno: :twocents:

Yes, If we get lucky enough to stick one like that I am not going to worry too much about scoring inches

Agreed, that bull would get an arrow 1 minute into opening morning shooting light
-
Brian B,
You can shoot that one.... I will shoot the bigger one we saw together a few weeks back! :chuckle:
-
Done! :chuckle:
-
Have you two flipped the coin yet?
-
Yes, and I am first!!!!! :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: Well I think we are going to go I hunt the morning, He hunts the evening, He hunts the next morning, I hunt the next evening and so on as far as the shooter goes. It would be nice to get one early in the season so we can hold out for a masher for the second one.
Is that asking too much.... :dunno:

Nope, not at all.

Heading out tomorrow for two serious days of hiking and setting up 3 more cameras as well as checking 2 others... this will put me to the test for sure. The places we drop these cameras are not easy.... but I can't wait! :chuckle:
I have never been as serious and as focused on taking a big bull as I am this year!
Hope to post up some more pics by Monday evening!
-
I love it! Sounds like fun, with I was going with you guys.
-
Remember the very best elk plan can change very quickly , make sure you have plans a b c d e and f !
-
Hey Coach,
We have plans A, B, C, D and E but plan F is to call you and RT Spring! Let us hope it does not come to that.
-
That is a good bull!good luck!
-
how did the scouting and cam check go?
-
Well My Hunting Partner (BrianMTSInc) is up on the mountain still. He Text me and it sounds like we had some camera issues this go round. :bash: :bash: But he was glassing 3 very nice bulls this evening and one was Masher. Hopefully we will get pics of them. I am going back up on Friday to check it out again.
-
As BrianB said, we had some camera issue, which sucks, BUT I saw 2 - 1st day shooters in the same place we have seen them before (I hope they stay close by for another few weeks!!), and I saw FRESH elk sign in all of the places I hoped. :IBCOOL:
Cameras have all been reset, new batteries, SD cards, and fresh attractant. 2 new cameras have also been placed. 1 one a wallow with a huge bed right next to it. I am hoping this is a certain bulls wallow!! Time will tell!
-
Well, It finally happened. I went to a nice producing camera ( my newest) and where I last put a new mineral block and someone stole the camera and the block. :bash: :bash: :bash: I hate thieves, but I only have myself to blame for not locking it up. I don't know what I more pissed about. Losing the camera or not knowing what was on the SD Card. It was like running downstairs Christmas morning only to find out that someone stole all your presents and took your tree too!!! :'( But there was a ton of fresh elk droppings in front of where my camera use to be. I guess I can take solace in that!
-
Dam that sucks :bash: :bash:
-
That sucks about your camera, not much lower than a thief. Good luck on the hunt, it looks like you've got some great leads.
-
:sry: That sucks. Karma is a b#$%#
-
Recovered from stolen camera.......CHeck! Broadheads flying good.....CHeck!........Treadmill still kicking my arse......CHeck!.......Honeydew list longer than ever before next Tuesday departure.....CHeck!...ITs about to be " On Like Donkey Kong!!!"
Drag the trailer up (home for the next 3 weeks) on Sunday! :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
Still employed by the end of the week..........Hopefully!!!!!
GEt ready boys!
-
Sounds like you're going to have a great time, good luck. Cant wait to see the end result.
-
Sounds awesome dude good luck to everyone. Hope that tag gets filled and can't wait for story and pics.
-
It's really sickening knowing some other hunter probably took your camera, only hunters would go to areas where you and Brian are going. They won't even come close to ruining you hunt but I sure hope they get a bit of bad carma for the next few years, aZz holes.

Yeah Jerry , that is what I figure. They must have really needed that camera more than I did..... :o
But it is what it is and now its time to put the smack down on a pig! Lets hope all those Karma points I have been savin up are worth something to the ELK GODS!
-
Just a quick update... checked a new cam location and found my cam full after 3 weeks.... I assumed it was all wind since it took 3500 pics... man was I wrong!!! :IBCOOL:
Here are a couple that we got on film....
-
another one....
-
last one until I get home from ABQ later tonight....
-
Nice pics!
-
 good luck !

I just heard from my hunting partner (BrianB) that he could have filled his tag this morning! Had a bull come running silently into his call. Broadside at 15 yards! It's starting boys!!! :IBCOOL:

Hey Cella, does B's brother have a caller for him?heard his other hunting buddy can't make it
-
You heard correct, but I THINK he worked it out :dunno: .... want me to mention to him that you are available?
-
Would love to as I am off the whole 2nd week of elk season. But Suzanne's mom is not doing well and we need to spend as much quality time with her as possible as the doctors say she doesn't have much more time left. We are currently in Westport because she wanted to go to the ocean and be at the beach. I may be able to sneek away for a day or 2 but not sure.
-
Bowpredator - PM sent.....
4 am wake ups from here on out..... only 4 more wake ups to go until the "PEACHES 2013 - NO EXCUSES" season starts!!!
We have never worked harder or prepared more than this year. Serious workouts ( I am in the best shape I have been in since I left the Navy 20+ years ago) , shooting, and calling practice, along with extensive scouting..... now it's time to put it all together!!!
-
since I left the Navy 20+ years ago
:yike: man your getting old :chuckle:
-
What are you talking about skillet :dunno:
Ol' WalleyeJason has a couple of cams up for his Peaches Quality ML tag... two week soak in July netted 1600+ pics on one, so I'm guessing unless things changed he's got himself a couple of full cards by now. Hopefully lots of bone, with lots of points. Got enough pics of slickheads to last a lifetime! :chuckle:
Good Luck to the Brians - hope you guys whack a couple of mashers.
-
remember alltough photos are cool , those buggers have four legs.

I've been waiting for Brian to post his success!?! He tagged a bull a couple days ago, I will let him post the pic and tell the story. My cousin Brian ( the other bri) is still hard at it!

Brian said they are off the hook today!! I'm trying to get permission to post pic of b Blair's bull.
-
Brian B tagged a 5x5, Brian C put it all out there but didn't tag out on his big bull tag. He's a damn good elk hunter, him and Blair both, Brian C great job on staying after it!! Congrats Blair on your first bull!!
-
those boys where giving it hell ! they were going places most sain people wouldn't
-
Well guys,
We had 3 tags and only filled one which was a disappointment. But that is a lesson I guess in just how hard and unpredictable Elk hunting with a bow can be. We put our eyes on some monster bulls from 12 ft to 100 yards but could not close the deal for one reason or another. And there are many reasons. The wind seemed to be our nemesis around every corner even when we hiked around to get it in our favor. We put over 50 miles on our feet during the course of this hunt. We hunted as hard as I think you can. Me and BrianMTSinc hunted together trading off hunts and calling for each other. THis partner of mine has the drive and will of a flower growing out of a crack in the freeway in the middle of I-5. He brings that never say die mentality to our game. I told myself that if I had not connected by the 11th of Sept that I would not pass on bulls after that point. I had only had an opportunity on a couple of Spikes up until that point.
THe morning of the 11th came and we got to a place that we have named "Hell" for various reasons. It is a place that Always, and I mean Always has elk in it due to its toilet bowl esq nature with no bottom in sight. We never worried much about other hunters in this place because they only drove around the rim of this "Hell Hole". So we no more then got to the area and we could hear the bulls screaming. Or just enough to lure us down into the depths of hell only to laugh and draw us farther with every setup!. So after they drug us to the bottom and then we had to hike back out we had burned every last bit of life out of us. IT was a low of lows. So as we were leaving this place in the truck BrianMTSinc says "lets go check this one last area out before throwing in the towel for the first half of the day". I have to admit I was spent and frustrated and really just wanted to go back to camp but I played along. After all I had already survived the hike out of Hell so how bad could it be. So we stop and bugle this one area and we heard no response. We were beginning to leave and had run into cell service not far from Hell so we stopped. BrianMTSinc said he was going to bugle this clearcut while I was checking my messages ( an excuse for trying to get my mind right again.) He bugles and says he hears a bugle way down the ridge. So we knew the road system went down that way so we got to where we might be close to the bull and got out. We gave an estrus call and this bull hit us back immediately with a really crappy sounding bugle. I would have assumed hunter but he was calling from a very bizarre cut of woods at 10:15AM. So I moved down into position by the skid road and BrainMTSinc stayed back and started the estrus calling again. Sure enough he was coming! and FAST! I saw the bull and only a flash of his rack. Enough to know it was a bull. It looked as though he was going to skirt by me through the thick section of timber and I was not going to get a shot, then he took a turn and headed straight down to me. I was already at full draw as he turned to come straight down to me. He came to 20 yards and stopped. My mind was made up he was not leaving without an arrow. I was going to wait for him to turn but I was pegged. Never thought I would have to take a frontal shot, but I have shot a couple thousand arrows this year so far and knew I could make a perfect shot. I pulled the trigger and watched my 440 grain arrow sink right into the center of his chest. I could only see about 2 inches of my arrow. He turned and bounced about 25 yards to my left and started to stumble and go down. I made a questionable decision to put a second arrow in him. I shot again and he "BOLTED!" I thought, oh my god, what did I just do???? So after awhile of my mind working on me and how good my shots were or weren't. We started looking very slowly. Blood was ok for the first 10 yards. I then saw my arrow from the second shot and realized that I had missed???? I guess the excitement took over. I would have bet the farm I laced him with that secon arrow as well. So this made me worry even more. So we only wanted to look a little farther before backing out for a couple hours but it was about to get HOT. But turns out we looked another 20 yards and brianMTSinc says out loud in a stadium sized voice " DO YOU WANT TO SEE HIM!" I was not comprehending what he was asking me. he said it again and I look over the rise and there he lay not 50 yards from the initial shot. I was without words. We gave our manhugs etc and began with pics and processing.
My dad Roy Blair hunted his entire life and never got a bull. He got our whol group into hunting and we have been bowhunting together for the past 25 years now. We like to have a toast for the animal and to my dad thanking them for our good fortune and being with us in spirit during the hunt. He passed away in Oct of 2009. In my heart this bull was for him. He is not the bull of the woods, but on this day he was my bull and could not be any bigger.
A big thanks to my partner to keep me going and always pushing. Could not ask for a better friend.
Good luck to everyone.

Great bull! Way to go!

Great story and nice bull guys!
-
Thank you Brian B for the kind words. Likewise, I could ask for no better hunting partner, nor friend. It is a great reward in itself to be able to spend those special days each year in the elk woods with you  and for that, and many other reasons, I am truly blessed.
I have sat down to share my story about this Peaches 2013 season several times since returning home, yet for some reason, I am not able to do so yet. Strange how something I love so much can leave me feeling so .... :dunno:
I am very proud that I was able to be a small part in BrianB's success. We worked harder than ever, prepared as much as possible, and absolutely left it all in the woods. With new blisters on top of our old blisters, aching bodies, and true exhaustion setting in, we pushed on every day, and ultimately were blessed with taking this beautiful bull. There is no doubt in my mind that Roy was with us that day in the woods, as he always is, pushing us further and making us work for everything we got. So many blessing to be thankful for.....
Best of luck to the rest of you this year!!!
Brian C.
