Title: Lab Puppies?
Post by: TheBlues76 on July 29, 2013, 03:54:18 PM: I live in SE WA. I have been looking for a lab pup for almost two years now! I cannot seem to find the right one. I'd like an AKC registered female, preferably chocolate but yellow is okay for the right price. I want her to hunt and find antlers with me. I have a golden retriever that would be an awesome helper if/when I get the pup. Max price would be $1,000. Please help :dunno:

They don't have a lot of litters there but they do have knowledge and access to litters all over. There are also a few breeders on here that have had good reviews. Do a quick search and I am sure you will find their threads. :tup:

A good friend of mine sold 3 of her lab pups to them thinking they were going to a good home for $300 each, only to get a call later from another person who had purchased one of those pups for $900 from them. Don't know if Desert Wind represented themselves as the breeder or what, but in my book it was a pretty sleazy thing to do. Nothing wrong with making a little profit, but the markup was excessive and it appears they were just buying labs to sell to potential clients because they didn't have anything available at the time. JMO, they may be reputable breeders; just don't agree with what they did.

you might want to steer clear from the bigger chunkier labs.the majority of them tend to get more joint and hip problems and also tire out sooner while working. also "good price" usually means not the best breeding was involved :twocents:

If that's the case good luck to you but they have no breeding history of their labs or credentials listen on their website. Looks to me more of an amateur operation that breeds labs as a hobby. Again if that's what you are looking for have at it. Spending $1,000 on a pup that has been properly breed, well cared for, and has good lineage is way more important than paying $500 for an inbred lab with no health credentials or history that is going to cost you thousands in vet bills down the road. Seems like you are looking more for convenience than anything.

If it were me I would be looking at Ireland Farms, Kingsland Labs, Wind River Labs, or Windy Canyon Labs. That was my short list last year when looking for a chocolate male pup. I ended up going a different route but my next dog will be from one of those mentioned. Not trying to come off like a jerk just throwing my :twocents: in.

Thanks for doing that curly!! :tup: I don't get any money for sending people her way, I just have never met someone so commited to the breed before. She has even denied people before because she didn't feel it was a good situtation for the dog.

But if I'm paying a breeder a good chunk of change, I don't want to have to drive all the way over to Seattle to pick it up. If I could find a good breeder and one that isn't really inconvenient, I would go to them. And also, about chasen me, I have co workers and friends who have them. And they are great hunting dogs. I'm not going to compete with my future pup. I want a hunting buddy.

Her dogs are more along the English/show lines. I visited her before she moved and got a couple females from her, as she was downsizing for her move. Her dogs aren't huge. Maybe the blockier build makes them look huge in pictures, but they are well within the AKC standard. I think she does a nice job, but her dogs aren't really from hunting lines. Not sure if that matters.

Gotcha! I was looking for the exact same thing in my dog last year. It has been mentioned enough times to count but Jackelope is right get ahold of Warren at Ireland. While I don't have a dog from him I have talked with him on the phone and have been exposed to 3 of his pups in the past year and all were amazing dogs. Haven't heard or seen a negative comment about their operation.

Not only for my convenience but also, if the pup has issues, I will know more about. Or someone i personally know. I was supposed to get a pup from my taxidermist last december on the west side, he owns a cabin here so he was gonna bring her, but his lab miscarried.

She is a 3yr old pointing lab AKC registered and hip, elbows & eyes cert., both her parents, and the stud are pointing labs from Tri Lab Kennels all have multiple titles if that is important to you and all are alive and hard core hunting dogs. I am a hard core hunter of wild birds myself and she has a never ending drive and her point is natural and super solid point. I believe that she will throw yellows but black is possible. Pick of the litter will go for $1,550 and we are asking $1450 for the 2nd choice on. They will have declaw removed and first set of shots and guarantee for 24 months for any hips or elbows. If you haven't seen a pointing lab they are just the same as a normal lab but they point instead of flush. Send me a personal message if you are interested with your email and #. I know it is a little higher then your looking but these dogs genetics are awesome and they are worth every penny.

She is a very powerful smart hunting dog that is a great family dog as well. I'll be taking her to Saskatchewan with me this September to hunt birds.

It took me 9 hours roundtrip to get to Pomeroy and back, so I understand your concern with the drive. Just remember that your pup will become part of your family, and driving a little further just one day should be worth your time to get quality over convenience, (whether it's one of my pups or from another breeder).

I am willing to meet in George if I can get at least two deliveries, which once I post it on my website, I usually end up with several wanting to meet there. It's only 40 minutes past Wenatchee, and I always need something from the big city :) I can always meet in Wenatchee for one delivery, which would still save you 2 hours roundtrip.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

My suggestion is for you pick a breeder you trust and have done your research on. Find one that will back up their dogs and satifies your need in a dog. I picked Ireland Farms after looking into lots of references and checking out many different websites of breeders in Washington. Warren is a terrific person to work with and would do whatever it takes to make a customer happy. His dogs are good looking and well cared for. He cares about what he does and I think he is a responsible breeder. You could look in your local paper and get a puppy close to home. It could turn out just fine or it may be a dissappointment. Over half the battle is what you do with your dog when you get it home, but it does help to get a good dog from a reputable breeder...one that guarantees his product.

The length of your drive should be at the bottom of your list of concerns.

Post by: JustWantedaPuppy on March 09, 2017, 06:07:17 PM: After seven months of waiting, while driving through a snow storm to get there across mountain passes, the business owner set a time for pick up, then promptly called me back and told me she was no longer going to sell me a puppy with no explanation whatsoever. After so many failed litters, and so much patience on our part, we were extremely disappointed. Business owner then refused to respond to us. They had a $250 deposit from us, which we are refusing to be refunded because of their immoral and indecent business practices. I've complained to the BBB.

I still have no idea what could have happened to make them change their mind in an instant like that, but I have read in other online searches about their questionable business practices and breeding activities.

Don't get left heartbroken like we did. This puppy was to replace a brown lab we had to put down at two from cancer. Thankfully a much BETTER breeder took pity on our story and is offering us another puppy. We will always be grateful to them!
