Title: Broadhead test-lots of heads tested
Post by: Jellymon on July 30, 2013, 06:34:33 AM
Here is a great chart a guy on archery talk put together. He did a lot of unbiased testing. First link is a quick chart of his results, second link is his method and all the results. Might help some of you choose a broadhead this year.

The far right on the spreadsheet has the link to the testing page and pics for that head.
There's nothing explaining the categories so its-
Pen- Penetration
Dur- durability
Dep- dependability
SB- sharp before
SA- sharp after
Flight

It doesn't say they're tougher, only reason the shuttle scored lower is because of the sharpness scores. Look at the total penetration for the shuttle though!

Glad to see confirmation of what I have always thought. My Steel Force heads are some of the best I have shot.

I use the Helix and there's no other broad head currently in the market I would use in place if it. Devastating, durable, dependable. Love it! My 2 cents.

I would like to see your data backing this statement  :tung:

I have smashed through many opposite shoulders and not had a single problem. All blades intact and ferrule still straight. Shuttle Ts are a great head but aren't as sharp as I like.

I shot my Entiat doe w/Strickland's Helix 150gr BH recently, and all I can say is WOW!  Big entrance hole, big exit hole and Lots and Lots of blood!  Blood was still pouring out of her as she was lying dead on the ground!  Plus, they fly like a dart and are tough.  BH seemed just as sharp as before the shot.  No dents or dings even after pulling out of ground on opposite side of deer.

OK.... Just to  :stirthepot: I performed a shuttle t vs stryker test of my own this past season. Documented with pics. From my data I believe Basically  we can conclude..
 A) That shuttle t's are junk :chuckle:
 B) Strykers are awesome
 C) shot placement trumps all
or
 D) Shooter should have shot a better arrow than goldtip

Also as a side note is it bad if the first thing I thought when I pulled the arrow out was if it could start a war on huntwa?  :chuckle:

:chuckle:  Nice!  I understand now....  since shuttle t dont punch all the way through. They hang out in the animal to finish the job. :chuckle:

I shot a doe a week or so ago with the Helix. et1702 and shooterbull aren't kidding about the true arrow flight and devastation. Clean pass through via shoulder bone and I have personally never seen such a swath of blood to follow for recovery. Now I will admit I never did find my arrow in some knarly stuff but I would not be shocked to find at least the bh reusable with some sharpening possibly needed. These were recommended to me by a very accomplished bow hunter and I know why. I don't see any reason to use anything else.

KimWar, unless it hit a rock after pass through, it's still sharp! Check my earlier posts. I had a similar experience earlier this season. I plan on getting an elk with same BH this week.

The last 3 elk I have shot has been with Shuttle T's and none of them went over 50 yards. 1 was at 50 yards and broke threw a rib on both sides. My bow only shoots about 265 fps. They are an awesome broadhead.

I love the shuttle t heads. I've had pass throughs on 2 deer and I shoot a 45# pse evo 7. They say they are not very sharp but they are deadly. Both were quick kills. How do you measure sharpness anyway?
