Title: Arrow Insert Removal Tool - DIY -
Post by: Smossy on July 30, 2013, 07:07:23 PM
This is a tool I made to help remove old arrow inserts.

I've noticed on a couple threads and topics that some people are having a hard time getting these out and risk really damaging the carbon in they're arrows and jeopardizing the strength.
This is a simple and easy way to avoid all that, no torches involved.

All you need to do is find a cheap soldering iron from any hardware store, make sure its the kind that has a tap screw in the end for bit removal..

Unscrew that, and remove the rod.

Take an old field point, and grind the tip of it down enough to where It will fit into the head of the soldering iron with no issues...

Re-Insert your tap screw and tighten the field tip head down as much as possible inside the soldering iron where the rod used to be...

When your going to use it to remove an old insert, Do NOT screw it into your arrow, then let it heat up. It WILL damage your carbon without a doubt..

Plug in the device, let it heat all the way up.
After its nice and hot, screw it into your old insert and just start to slightly pull, It wont come out immediately so just keep steady pressure and once its its melted the glue inside just enough the insert will pop right out. The carbon will virtually have no heat on it at all.

Clean it up, do what you need to, then glue in a new insert. Try to avoid things like superglue as to it will make it harder to remove the next time.

Hope someone gets use out of this.

Yeah I inhearated quite a few arrows off other people that were too long. Had to come up with some way to have them re-cut cause Im too cheap to take them to sportsmans warehouse or cabelas. :chuckle: Dremel tool works great for cutting arrows.

I bet you could go the the hardware store and get a long bolt with the same thread as the arrowhead threads and just cut off the head of the bolt.

I use the drill bit technique.  Has worked so far.  I did put a drill bit through my bedroom door once with it though

He would have to remove inserts with duct tape there wouldn't be any he'd have taped the heads to the shafts and called it good.
