So a buddy and myself were going to take a 4 day trip to Ellensburg for a bear hunt, due to fire danger its closed. :bash: We are trying to figure out a place to go for the day. I'm not trying to get honey holes, just a place to go on the west side that has a opportunity for a kill, and we really have no clue, do you? thanks guys.

there is a really good spot down by Candlestick Park :chuckle:
-
the olympics are suppose to have decent bears from what I've heard...tried once last year in kitsap county and it was closed due to fire danger as well. Forks on down to Raymond possibly. I was going to check into Forks this year.
-
What part of the wet side are you on?

:chuckle: This thread was a perfect set up for a joke like that

C-Post is gated off and protected by an assault rifle hermit....so that is out.....
-
Go sit in glacier, WA wait until you see shanevg driving by and follow him up to the high country

Well, you were going to Ellensburg, so head that way, just don't go quite as far. Hunt the Teanaway unit north of I-90 or the Taneum unit south of I-90. Plenty of bears in both.

Or how about somewhere between Easton and the top of the pass? :dunno:

:yeah:
But in all honesty.... Hit the mountains, there are bear everywhere. Just glass clear cuts and slow walk gated off roads. A kill is never a gaurentee or else it wouldn't be considered hunting. We would just call it killing or shooting or something like that.

FS 70 out of Enumscratch........find berries, find bear poo, shoot a bear.

When i lived in Black Diamond, I actually asked a similar question from the OP to an old timer in Enumclaw about were to find bears....that is EXACTLY what he told me.....so of course i did it.....i found tons of berries and bear poo....but that's it.

Just saw the state wide burn ban. Anyone know if or when areas will close to hunting like last year? I'd hate to drive a few hours to find out it closed. Did that last year and don't want to do it again.
-
Just plan on hunting National Forest- then you won't have to worry about it.
-
I agree fs 70 in greenwater but it doesn't open till the 15th.
-
I'm stuck in between heading over to Raymond or up to mt baker national forest. They're about the same distance from me. Any thoughts?
-
The Northwest Sportsman this month has some good info and jumping off points for up north.....might be worth the price to pick one up.

A lot of Bears in both these areas, you will run into a lot less tree hugging hippies in Raymond though, same distance I'd head South no question.

LOL, Tree Hugging Hippies.
I'd go North. You can always find some remote areas up there.
Baker Lake Road.
NF-26 out of Darrington
Green Mountain Rd near Three Fingers
Beckler Rd out of Skykomish
Spada Lake area...

NO B.S dude but if i was you i would head up to cyspus, hike up to blue lake, bring a fishn rod and some rooster tails and night crawlers so you can fish, i have seen a couple big damn bears up there, if you guys are huntn for the 4 days it would be your best bet on short notice, and if you continue on up where asphault turns to dirt there are miles and miles of country to look at and there is another lake up there i judst cant rem, ember the name of it and it had some awesome crawdadn in there to  good luck man i hope ya whack one....

My son and buddy and I hunted out near the Quinault Res this past weekend. Hit the Wynoch lake area and nothing, then went up to the Col Bob wilderness area,,,tons of sign there, crap every where tore up berry patches. and loads of fir trees scratched up. Didn't see any Bears so went over to clearwater GMU north of the Quinault res. Some sign there but no bears again. Best bet would be later in the season for those place's I would say. 2 more weeks and South Cascades opens I know where they are in there so hopefully my son gets his first bear. best of luck, keep hunting!!!!!!!!!!
-
I can tell you where not to go. All of the places I've been so far. Lots of ripe berries and in remote no pressure areas and still haven't even seen sign. I've mostly been up high so don't go there. They must all be down low in the thick staying cool.
