I got out to the White River area off the 410 east of Enumclaw tonight to check it out, look for sign, and scope the area. Lots of the area off 410 is owned by Hancock. I've read that you need a permit, but I've also seen posts on here that people say you can walk on without a permit. Looking for clarification as I'd love to park the car and hike in all weekend if its possible.
If not I've got a couple other spots ill be heading. Thanks for the help in advance! Getting familiar with the south area as I am more familiar with spots up north.

After reading more from the deer hunting forum, sounds like its a no-go without a permit. Any accessible areas on 410 that isn't owned by Hancock?

Until I believe year before last you could hike, ride your bike or horse in there for free now you have to pay. You can get a 1 day foot pass for like $8 or annual foot pass for around $50. Just be aware that a foot permit does NOT allow you to ride in a vehicle with a buddy who had the full pass. Hancock is sticklers about this and will confiscate your pass.

Yeah gotta pay to walk in...go up 70s road a ways and check it out lots of public land to hunt.

There is a lot of territory on the 70 series of roads that is not Hancock's. It doesn't open for bears until 08/15 though.

I got a day pass and hiked in on the south side of 410 just west of federation state park. I went in about 9.5 miles of roads and watched a few clear cuts throughout the day. Berries are everywhere but not very ripe. Didnt see any bear sign and I hiked all over the southwest side of the reserve. All in all, a good day to check things out. Saw deer and elk. No bear. Beautiful scenery though.
Any areas around there that ARE public access?

@mallardaddict - any tips on which 70's roads? I drove 410 all the way to Rainier National Park and it seemed like all roads where posted with signs from
Hancock. I'd love to hit that east side of Federation State Park after 8/15. Thanks for all your help! You guys are awesome.

East of the federation forest you start into forest service land which is public land. The only thing is that it is the white river gmu. No elk hunting unless you draw a tag. The 70 series roads everyone is talking about is forest service road system.
