I just found out that they are cutting the corn around one of the fields I hunt!! Unfortunately I have to travel to go to a wedding this weekend. I guess I will have to take Friday off :chuckle:
Does anyone else have hunting plans this weekend?
-
Headed for Colfax Friday evening, will hunt saturday but the reports i'm hearing aren't real encouraging.... :( :'(
-
Gamblin Guy, we own ground around Colfax and our pheasant hunters all limited opening weekend. There are a few birds around if you are willing to work for them and have access to good private land.
-
Places I usally bust out a few roosters seem to be lacking in the birds. Quail and huns have be ok not great but ok.

i'll go out a few times but not for a couple of weeks. I'll see what happens and if the birds are as scarce as I think they are it'll be on to coyotes.
-
JJ,
I have to deliver fish to a farmer, my way of saying thanks for access. It's not exclusive access but they are good people, I've been taking them fish for several years. We'll be a little west of Colfax, we'll keep our fingers crossed for a few birds.
-
We get a lot of fish, too :) :) That is my hometown and I am related to half the county so they are probably kin. Good luck!
-
It's probably over done, but they seem to enjoy it. I cant afford to lease ground so I figure it's the least I can do. My son shot his first rooster there last year, we make at least one trip a year regardless of the number of birds just to visit.
-
I sent you a pm. I will be there on Friday night, but am leaving early a.m. for a Montana deer hunt. Hopefully your son gets a few more notches in his gunbelt.
-
Hey JJ, did you get to have any fun with the roadhunters? I was wondering about that.

Back at ya. Good luck in Montana.
-
You know, it wasn't too bad this year. I think that gas prices made roadhunting a little too expensive. I caught a couple guys with rifles over the hood, one guy was "taking pictures" in Blaze orange, etc. Always a little comical. I always try to be nice, but at the same time, let them know that I could be around any corner. It usually does the trick. I always kinda feel for them when there are three or four legal bucks feeding 100 yards off the road and they can't shoot. I have been on the other end of that, so I have some sympathy.
-
Have to say you handle it alot nicer than I would if I was in your position. Good luck to you in Montana. Stay safe. BTW I didnt mean to hijack this thread.

Pheasant Release sites are a joke.....
-
Heading out the door for Colfax in about 1/2 hour, reports I heared were not real positive also, but I have my fingers crossed!
-
Started the weekend off right :IBCOOL:

Pheasant Release sites are a joke.....
well i don't have a dog, so the pheasants have to be stupid. that way i can see them instead of blindly walking around until i flush them myself.
-
Yummy and Tasty Animal, where do you live?
-
Heading to Moses. :IBCOOL:

I don't see any reason to go to a Release site if you don't have a dog. ya know I'm just going to start my own thread on this.....

Corn cut makes for a good morning :chuckle:
-
Good work there!
I hunted Moses Lake alot. It can be good country as long as you have strong legs and a determined nose working for ya.
Thanks for sharing.
-
I got a few Halloween treats early this year. Keep cutting that corn!

Well my home is in Selah, but I'm going to WSU so you could say Pullman. I've been going to the Wenas release site with my bro because I came home the last two weekends in a row to hunt.
-
Ever since they started releasing birds around here the guys absolutely hammer the release sites and leave my wild birds alone. I saw a lot of people pheasant hunting around Moses Lake this weekend. It was wet but no wind and not cold. I think I am going duck hunting tomorrow.
-
you seem to know your stuff shorthair .. You always produce..Congrads
-
I got a chance to take my father in law out for an hour or two this am. A good day. The one rooster had a 22+ inch tail which is pretty good for WA.
-
A nice long tail is usually indicative of a wild bird from my experience hunting the Moses Lake areas. Those Coyote Ridge birds always seem a little ruffed up.
-
Good work on ALL of the birds. I was around your neck of the woods this weekend, 4 roosteers up 0 down. Sooooo I went chukar hunting!!! at least I have more of an excuse when I miss.
-
It was a very merry Christmas Eve morning. There is nothing quite like hunting in the snow :chuckle:
-
 very nice!
-
Nice job man 8)
-
We were over there sunday , limits in three hours , no dog . Perfect conditions Fun isnt it
-
nice work rougheye,
I wish I had more time to play in the snow
-
No kidding me too . Not very often its that easy espetually without a dog
-
I have heard tales of the peasant release sites. I am glad I have only hunted away from them. It sounds like fishing hoodsport for chum!
-
It is a tradition to take a pic of the last bird of the season. Here is the last rooster of my 2008/2009 season. Those are my 2 daughters and mother in law in the pic.

What are you talking about Ross, there are still a few more days...lol
