Nice buck!!
I wonder who he's whispering to in the 2nd pic

Nice buck!

Dandy clean 8ptr for sure..........
-
Dandy clean 8ptr for sure..........
LOL
-
Nice deer...long tines....looks like a shooter.
-
Any chance that deer is from the LPNWR? Saw one last scouting trip that could have been its twin.
-
Dandy clean 8ptr for sure..........
:yeah:
-
Great 3pt with eyeguards! Dandy buck for sure.
So.... "3+1"
Yeah that's easier to say than "4"
:bash:

I'm not sure what LPNWR is.. :dunno:

:bash:
:yeah: I guess we will call my buck a 4 + 1 x 2 + (7) sounds about right I guess with the above logic :bash:

Now that's funny. :chuckle:

Haha!
Good stuff!
If it was a mule deer I would call it a 3 point with eye guards though.
-
Man you guys are sensitive. It can be a "4 pt" if you want it to be. :chuckle:
-
Little Pend Oreille National wildlife Refuge. Maybe they aren't pointy enough to be considered points :chuckle:
-
For a white tail isn't that a 8point lol according to the outdoor channel lol
-
I'd say for a whitetail with big tall browtines like that, it can be called a 4x4 without too much fuss.
The problem I have is when people are like, check out this 7x7 bull! Turns out it's a 5x5 and it's got just a couple little sticker points :P

Oh that!!
Yeah he's right in the middle of it ;)
-
If its a score able its a POINT!! Makes no damn sense why someone would say 3pt plus brows .. Am I missing something ? Does the brow time not get scored ? :bash:
-
I agree... Solid 8
-
With that logic .. Why do u guys count the beam end then? It's not a point ! It's a beam end!
-

My guess is that there are enough muleys that don't have brow tines that it raised the question when people mentioned points. With whiteys and blackies, I think it is just assumed they have brow tines and they are being counted. So if someone said 4 pt, then for whitey/blacky everyone kind of is on the page of brow tines plus 3 others on a branch. Usually if there is something unusual it is mentioned (like a drop). For muleys if you tell someone 4 pt they try to picture it and need to know if they're leaving out brow tines.
Looks like a good 8 pt to me.

???? Where are you hunting blacktails? I would say they are more like mulies. A lot of blackies don't have brow tines. If not a majority....

I don't think it's easier to say. Just gives a clearer mental image if there isn't a picture. But there is many ways to skin a cat. Very nice buck. I hope you get him.

very nice deer.all my bucks have went into hiding.
-
The annual eyeguard argument always reminds me of people arguing over whether coca cola is called "pop" or "soda", and both adamantly insisting they are right.
That said, that's a nice 4 point
-
You guys need to go hunting or something. This is like reading a bunch of menapausal letters to Dear Abby.
-
Nice 3 point! :chuckle:
Thats how wa bucks are recognized whitetail or not... :chuckle:
-
Heck of a buck Matt

LOL, yeah its a age old argument and one we only get to have in a few states, because 95% of the hunting world calls that a 8 point.
Not the direction I expected this thread to go, but its the nature of the beast. :chuckle:

Yeah but what if he had double brows or forked g-2s ?????????????? :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
ahhhh.... You ruined all the fun... :chuckle:
-
Yeah but what if he had double brows or forked g-2s ?????????????? :chuckle: :chuckle:
Then he would be a 4 point with forked G2's, a 5x5, a 10 point, OR a 3 point with eye guards and forked G2's :chuckle:
-
Nice 3 point! :chuckle:
Thats how wa bucks are recognized whitetail or not... :chuckle:
I'm with you houndhunter. When I was a kid (and I'm not THAT old) everyone just counted main beam points. I think when they started managing bucks by point minimums it changed everything...
I still refer to a buck with 3 on the main beam as a 3 point, but when I get a funny look I will reluctantly add "3-with-an-eyeguard"...
-
Great buck. I don't care what you call it, I would be happy as heck to take him. With the how many points you have threads you can sure tell the younger guys.
-

I must be confused about how antlers are put together..
Do the eye guards come straight out of the head not off the main beam? :o
-
No Matt that must be the pre-main beam :chuckle:
-

Then he would be a 4 point with forked G2's, a 5x5, a 10 point, OR a 3 point with eye guards and forked G2's :chuckle:
A 10 pt can be a main frame 8pt with forked g-2s or double brows, or a 10pt can be a main frame 10........or a mani frame 8 with double brows and forked g-2s would be a 12pt, or you could just have a main frame 12........or a main frame 10 for that matter............ :dunno: :dunno:

That is correct 70% of the time.
-
Nice buck! But I would call it a 6 pointer with eyeguard kickers. :chuckle:
-
It's clearly a 3x3 with double inverted drop tines. Nice ones too
-
People seem to not count brows so when u shoot a 170" buck make sure to subtract the brows and h1 circumference since u don't wanna accept that they don't count. It's a point growing off the beam!! No different than a g2 or g3
-
The next 6pt bull I see I'll call it a 4pt with brows....
-
if I killed it I would tell people I killed a 3x3 with eye gear...... just to fan the flames :chuckle:
-
The next 6pt bull I see I'll call it a 4pt with brows....
HAHA!
Thats the best argument on this I have heard yet!
-
The next 6pt bull I see I'll call it a 4pt with brows....
Better yet - 2 and 3 point elk are now just spikes with single or double brows.
Could make the spike only units interesting. "But I heard on HuntWA that brows don't count" :chuckle:
-
That is a heck of a spike, for sure.
Where I come from we don't count tines less than 14", and look down on those who do.
P.S. Gorgeous buck. Thanks for sharing.
-
I have to modify my stand.
I'm calling it an 0X0 with 4 eye guards per side, because technically any of those points could protect his eyes.
-

That'd be a true spike

No. See that's why I call it a 0X0. A true spike would be like a 3X3 with eye guards......

What the :dunno:
-
Matt I think you and all of us should just refer to it as " A buck " :chuckle:
-
A shooter :) Or A 4 point
-
The next 6pt bull I see I'll call it a 4pt with brows....
That is exactly what everyone I hunt with would call it. Guess it's just a regional thing :dunno:. Take the bull in my avitar for example. We all called it a 4 point (you would call it a 6x6). Like I said before, I don't think it's a big deal. People are just brought up differently there is no right or wrong. Just my :twocents:.
-
I'd be enmbarrassed if a bunch of women read this thread........nice 3 point. :chuckle:
-
I think you can get away with it in the whitetail world. Do that in the muley world and you will get laughed right out of camp or the bar or the video shelf, or ........
Give him about 3 more years and you could have an incredible creature. You may never see him again, but he would be incredible. Neat genetics
-
ID be willing to bet that buck doesn't get much bigger than that in years to come. Maybe a few inches and then he will go downhill. Ive spent way to much time keeping tabs on 4pt bucks that never get much bigger . Usually I find a stud 4 and think oh what next year he will be and they get smaller most of the time. I only know that cause I use trail cams :chuckle:
-
Ok,
After much thought and discussion from all you friendly folks Ihave decided to name him....
"3+1" It just kinda roles off the tongue!
So here is a update on 3+1...
Checked a couple cameras and got this one picture of him this morning about 400 yards from the first pics. He was far from the camera sneaking down a trail, but i think I got another piece to the puzzle put together.
-
Nice 3 point! :chuckle:

Not according to B&C, P&Y, and WDFG :chuckle:
Speaking of B&C/P&Y. What are you guessing for score? And I'm sure this will start another debate and make the thread title longer. 150's?
-
Super 3, but he's definately not a 150". Weak brows and no real mass. Great beams and nice tines though. 16" at best inside is my guess. Put a G4 on him then maybe. :twocents:
-
To me thats an 8 pointer, on a WT brow tines are implied unless told otherwise.
-
low 140s 8ptr............no free pass.
-

Score is one thing I refrain from on this sight.. way to many "experts" on here lol
I could tell you some scores some true experts have told me but id rather keep them to myself..
I once had a 4 point that I swore was 150" and everyone told me I was insane... guess what that buck ended up scoring..... 150" on the dot!
That being said I think this is the biggest 4 point ive gotten on camera ;)
-
Come on guys, that is a Whitetail buck. The brow points are over an inch so they count. If you want the real count, that is an 8 point Whitetail.
IF it had been a mule or black tail it would be a 4X4, but it is not...it is a Whitetail...hence it is an 8 point.
-
It's clearly a 3x3 with double inverted drop tines. Nice ones too
:lol4:
voting for this one when the poll comes up
-
Here are a few more pictures of him,
He has been a good day walker this past week.
-
I would shoot him for sure but how old do you think he is 4 1/2 or, just curious?
-
Those are some great poses. Thanks for posting
-
very nice 4pnt  some great pictures of him. I am no expert but he looks like 150 to me. those are mighty long tines and main beams.
-
That's a cool looking big four. It'd be interesting to see him in a year or two.
I've never seen such debating over antler points until I signed onto this forum. Everywhere I've ever been hunters would call that a 4 point. And if it were a blacktail it would be called a 3 pt with eyeguards. :twocents:
-
Great pics Alwine
-
nice 4x4 close to 150"
