Howdy!
I noticed over the past few days a nice blackie buck that I have been watching for a month or so is starting to swell up in the neck and tearing the crap out of the alders. I caught him pushing a doe around Monday evening but she didn't want anyting to do with him. He seems to be a week or two early. Has anyone else seen any rutting behavior yet this season?
-
I guy at work said basically said the samething. He saw a buck this morning chasing a couple of does. Earlyer in the week they were just feeding together.
-
Yes sir, been chasin since last week. Budy killed a 20 in wide 3 point pushin, and I passed a nice tall buck pushin this weekend also. Getting reports of others seeing the same stuff also. Its starting ! Now for it to hit full stride!

Passed up?...don't make us wait...dump him.

I sure hope so. The kid and I are gonna kick some tail this weekend. Or should I say raise some hell!
-
What sucks is that I have to wait until the middle of next month to shove an arrow in him. He is a wide 3x4 with an extra eye guard on one side. This is the buck that I mentioned in another post where I wanted him to get a chance to breed before I tried to stick him. It has been fun watching the dude but I am getting anxious to stab him. (Wow, that sounded gay!) :P

Yep, 2nd or 3rd week of Oct. hey really pick up the activity.

Whats wierd, is here in MT I've seen some of this going on with the muleys. We had some wierd weather..I"m sure the does aren't coming in, but the bucks are remembering that when the weather turns cold and snowy...the does are ready! Maybe something weather related has happened over there Eric??

i sure hope so. i have 3 bucks that are 120+ that are in areas only open to modern firearm between now and the close of the season that i want my family to jump on.
-
The weather has been bluebird, warm days and cool but not real cold nights. I bet that the moon has a little to do with it. When I saw him the other evening his whole head and face was covered with alder shavings. He had really been going to town on some poor little tree. ;)
-
Hey Eric, I can help you out with that tree killer if you want :chuckle: He may not be big enough to kill though, only a 4x3 with an extra eyeguard ;) :chuckle: Budy ol'pal :chuckle: Hope you get the oportunity to stick him with your bow! Cant wait to see him dead!

last week i drove through the point defiance park just at about dark came around a corner and saw a doe with a nice little 3x4 following her with his nose to the ground and all swollen i followed them in to a pick nic area and found myself surrounded by deer then the 3x4 and a 2 point started going at it maybe 20 yd in front of me got some pics but they suck still one of the coolest things iv seen in the woods and it was in a city park

Me too :chuckle:
Whats up with all the new moderators?? ;)

I,ve seen that buck down at Pt. D as well. Last year anyway....Pretty nice deer down there and not afraid of people either.
-
Bucks are definitely rutting. Brother just called me from (secret spot) He had a doe and a 5x5 blackie in full rut blow right across in front of him on the road. He bailed out but lost them in the brush. He said that bucks neck was big around as his shoulders. He said it was the 2nd biggest blacktail he had ever seen.
-
Little bucks been pushing does in my yard lately. They won't come into my yard untill the pre rut or rut starts [scared of my dogs]. They don't chase the deer but they do make them nervous when they bark.
-
its the same every year
-
Saw the same doe last night at dusk and this morning around 8:30. She was with her yearling fawn last night and alone this morning, same spot. I waited a while for a buck to show up but that didn't happen. Seeing lots of new rubs just about everywhere there is an "edge".
-
How long with the rut last? Late buck in western washington doesn't start until Nov 13th. Will it be over by then?
-
i have found they start going through the actions about now and really get going around the the first week of november through the month depending where they are
-
Man i sure hope they are moving this weekend, last weekend of the regular westside, and still sunny :( so hopefully less moonlight and rut willl lead to a dead buck of my own (praying hard)
-
We shall see if the bucks are real or a figment of my imagenation. :chuckle: Ill be heading home next weekend and I'm hoping to get away from the girlfriend long enough to chase them around. if i can ill take a pic or two..
-
My excitement for Monday has just gone up! Wish I didn't have other stuff going on over the weekend.
-
What kind of altitude are we talking about? I'll be up in the hills this weekend. I've got an elk tag and a deer tag I'd like to fill. My spots all picked out, saw some great rubs last weekend, but no animals. Hoping they haven't come of the mountain yet. Thoughts?
-
Less then 2000 ft. for the big buck my bro saw this morning.
-
Well I'll be above that...
2600-4800 is the zone I'll be working. Guess maybe I shold work the 'low road' a bit first.
-
Do you think you can rattle some blacktails in on the late modern firearm season?...

Yep.
Should really start working now if they are getting crazy. Been watching 3x1 all evening in the back yard. Looks as though his neck is starting to swell. He's hangin with a doe and a fawn. every now and then he'll run the fawn off and then start pushin the doe. She don't want any.
