Yes, a spotted owl. Saw three different spotted owls on five days.
-
Looks like a tasty bird? :chuckle:
-
I thought it was the barred owls that were going to be hunted to save the spotted owls.

Wow nice amateur photos! I was coyote hunting lying prone about 02:00 in the middle of the desert. I had my Mojo Critter going and I guess that is was attracted the owl. It swooped in and came in from behind me close enough to hear the whoose of wings. (usually they fly silent) Screamed like a little girl it scared the you know what out of me. Keep sharing I like to check out the wildlife photos on HW some interesting ones have been posted so far.

I was raking leaves in the back yard and felt like something was watching me and seen this guy just a couple feet away watching me. I'm sure this is what attacked one of my Mallards this summer. Still pretty cool animal.

Wow. Awesome photos.
Aside - I got attacked by a Great Horned Owl when I was volunteering at the Cascade Raptor Center by Eugene. This was probably 20 years ago. Was volunteering there and went into the enclosure to clean it and she flew down and grabbed my upper left arm. Gave me 5 punctures. Though, the treatment afterwards was worse than the initial injury. Turns out I'm allergic to amoxicillin.

I had my ecaller going in the woods behind my house, doing fawn distress hoping to get one of my cougars to come in. After quite a while i decided i was done, so just for the hell of it i switched to rabbit distress. Almost immediately a huge owl swooped in, landed about 15 feet up in the tree next to me and stared down my caller until i turned it off. Pretty damn cool.

by the way anyone know what type of owl this is, never seen one like that
-
I believe that's a Short Eared Owl.
-
One of at least three barred owls around here that like to keep me awake at night calling back and forth.
-
Inhad this great gray owl hang around my campsite for a few hours one really foggy day. He flew from one tree to another curious about what I was doing giving me a lot of photo ops.

This one looks more like a spotted owl, darker face feathers, or it could be a hybrid spot/barred owl. :dunno:

I tried posting this earlier, but maybe my pictures were too big? If it shows up twice on here, someone please delete it. This is a northern saw-whet owl from the Washtucna area. I took the picture during a heavy snow a few weeks ago. I was about 3-4 feet away from the owl and didn't have a good camera with me, so I had to use the cell phone.

Confirmed great gray by both the forest service and a few birding groups.

The photo is a little rough for a better ID but I'd say that is likely a juvenile Northern Hawk Owl.

We have a family of barred owls that moved in our front yard and I love them! I love owls in general so I was super excitedl
What's funny is I found this old drawing I doodled of a lil fat silly owl over 6 years ago and it reminded me of the first photo I took :chuckle:

It's likely temporary. After they boot the young ones from the nest the adults cover more ground and spend less time at the nest site. If it is a good nest, they'll be back this fall and winter to breed.
-
A few pics of burrowing owls to add to the owl thread.

Funny I was raking leaves and using a leaf blower for like 45 minutes not being quiet about anything. I looked and this guy was just sitting in the tree, ready to do some rodent control out on the back property. Kewl creatures
