A buddy and I are trying to put together a whitetail hunt for this November. We are primarily focusing around the Boville area to set up camp. We have studied maps and are pretty sure there is quite a bit of NF around that area, but haven't pin pointed a exact spot to go. We now there is a lot of Potlatch ground around there to but we are not really wanting to spend all the extra money on the vehicle permits etc. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Get the permit!!!!!

There is some great whitetail hunting near where you are heading. Take rattling antlers!!!! A grunt tube and a "can". Here is a pic of a big buck I killed near where you are heading. One of the most aggressive bucks I ever rattled in. On Potlach land!! My buddy killed the smaller buck within minutes of mine.

WOW! That 1 on the left is a beauty! We haven't rulled potlatch ground out, but just hate paying more to camp and use there land...But if we need to we will..
-
all good area, round meadow, 3 bear, tamarack ridge my suggestion right now is look on your computer for agriculture fields and logged units and hunt around them! thanksgiving time rattle them horns stay in a place for a hour and move on! but a lot of public land!
-
the potlatch ground has a lot more logging so tends to have a lot more deer on it! you don't have to camp on it but plan to hunt it!
-
My family farmed thousands of acres up on top there at 3 bear, and owned land on Tamarack ridge. Incredible Hunting! Great deer there, and if you talk to the right farmers, they will be happy to help. Just gotta know how to talk to em. They do a lot of damage to their fields, and tends to be a few damage control permits put out in those areas. As was stated above there are some great bucks in that area, just make sure to do what was said, and be patient, there are some good ones. Good luck and cant wait to see the pics.

Amazing info guys! We are planning on going there this weekend to drive some back roads and possibly knock on a few doors to gain access to some private ground. We will see what happens!
-
Headed over in the morning! Cant wait to go check it out!

Nice!

You can camp right next to Potlatch and hunt it without buying a permit. I hunted wolf over there last year.
-
Ya...it sounds like that is what a lot of people do. Including myself :chuckle:

That would be a negative where we hunt. They will ticket you for being on their property without a permit. We've got the paperwork to prove it! :chuckle:
-
Buy a wolf tag too. My buddy's brother lives in Bovill and sees wolves around there. That would be a better trophy than a deer.
-
Ohh hell yes on the wolf tag! That will be the best $31 Bucks i'll spend on the whole hunt!
-
I live in Bovill now. No deer around here. Ha Ha I don't think the potlatch permits are very expensive.
-
come on campmeat if anyone from bovill sees em they are in their crosshairs!lol but your right always a chance of seeing one, kinda been knocked down from my observation around mason buttes and three bears!

That's why I gave him the info to call. The woman told me that you could walk in...... :dunno: I got a free pass 2 years ago for IEP, disabled hunt, and I asked her about the cost of the permits. It's $72 for a family pass or close to it. She did tell me that if you do get caught trespassing, they will have you charged and taken to court. That's good by me.

Stop by. I'm across from the school in town. building a new shop. wife and I are going up scouting in the morning but should be back by 11:00.

Thread revival 8)
Doing a lot of searching as I'm looking at this unit for some archery elk hunting this year. I have a buddy with leased property in the Palouse zone that I'll get a few days to hunt on with him, but want to look at my other options in the rest of the unit.
Anyone have any recent experience in 8A for elk?
Obviously looks like the whitetail hunting is good!

My cousins live outside of St. Maries and they hunt 8A for elk. They kill decent bulls once in awhile, but has been more hit or miss the last several years. I would look elsewhere if I wanted a chance to kill a decent bull.
