IM Sitting Over A Cut With A Near Feeding On Black Berries. It's About 30 Yards Off The Clear Cut In Reprod. Won't Come Out. I Have A Call IM Thinking About Trying. Not Sure How Long To Wait.
When I Walked In There Were Trails All Along TheRoad Where He Has Been Eating Berries.
How Long Should I Wait? I'd Hate To Scare It Off By Calling.
-
Are near's good to eat ????
-
put the phone away and get to hunting!
I'd wait and use the call as a last resort, I'm running out of daylight sort of deal.
All I can tell you is try your best to predict where the bear is going and where it'll come out. If there are no roads or anything below the bear then odds are it'll come back up to the road between you and it and you'll get a shot if it's still daylight.
-

:chuckle: Pretty Excited Right now. Bad Pic But This Is Where It's at.
-
is he working towards you? Is that a gated road if not the next vehicle coming by may screw it up.
-
That is a good call scenario - but not all bears respond to calls and if that one has ever been educated ..........
-
Been Listening To It For 40 Min Now. It's Staying In The Same spot
-

Yes It's Gated. Been In The Same Berry Patch For 40 Min. Blackberries Are About 6 Feet high.
-
Call lightly. If it is a predator call give a couple light bawls. Waaa, waaa.
Don't call hard right off the bat. But definitely start calling an hour before dark or if is seems to be feeding out of the area.
Be ready to shoot before and during your first set. Don't stop for more than a minute, but call harder as time progresses.
Good luck.
-
It Is Actually Moving Toward Me Now. Heading To Some Bigger Trees. Not Hearing It As Much But I Can Hear It Breaking Brush, And Sticks.
-
I hope he moves into range!
-
Hopefully the entire member population of the forum doesn't race to the reprod now that you gave away your spot.
This is cool. I hope you get a shot. 1st bear, right?
Can't wait to see how this plays out.
-
good luck!
I'd be looking at that call pretty hard right now, gettin on in the evening.
-
Hope you get a shot. I'm getting excited for you!!!!
-
We're getting the play by play hunt in real time. Hopefully you get a shot!!! And I want a posting saying you shot, a post sayingyyou're making your way to the bear, and a post saying BBD

No Bear! It Ended Working Up Past Me In The Tree Line. I Was Able To Sneak Out Without It Busting.
I'll Be Back Tommorow. What Excitement!, And Disappointment.
The First Pic Is Where I Would Have Had Me Best Shot But It Stayed Just In The Tree Line.
The Second Is The Patch Where It Was For 45 min.
The Third Is One Of The Many Trails Into The Patch Of Berries. Hard To See. The Near Was Less Than 20 Yards From The Road.
On The Way Out I Saw Several Rabbits And Two Fawns With Spots. Next Time IM Going To Try Calling. I Know It Will Be Back Because Only Half The Berries Where Ripe, And I Could Tell It Has Been Feeding In There For Awhile.
-
I'll Be Back Tommorow.
And thanks to the location information included in the picture details, so will we :chuckle:
...and I'm kidding...
-
Good luck tomorrow!

You hunting with a SOCOM?

I guess you won't have to come over after all.
Fingers crossed. Use the call as soon as you see him and keep calling.

Can we hunt with eotech's? A short M1a with a illuminated sight would be an awesome combo.

I honestly don't know. But I would love to have one on my .444.

That SOCOM would be an awesome bear gun that range. So I would think. Should try it on Idaho wolves:)

I Am Actually Thinking About That Trip.
-
Looked like a great time spent in the woods, hopefully he will still be in the area tomorrow.
On a side note, you might want to check out the laws for hunting with a electronically illuminated sight.
-
I think its just no lasers and ir scopes
-
I thought it was battery operated but not sure. Looks like a fun hunt though.

That's what I thought as well.
I realized that I had never researched it and didn't know. I hope you can as my antique eyes would love an illuminated reticle.
-
I Guess I'll Need To Check. It Out. To Be Honest I Never Even Thought It Would Be Illegal.
-
Can I use laser sights or night vision devices to hunt?
It is illegal to hunt deer and elk with the aid of infrared night vision equipment or with laser sights (not to include range finders) capable of projecting a beam onto the target, while in possession or control of a firearm, bow and arrow, muzzleloading firearm or crossbow. This rule does not currently apply to other big game or small game. There are now new-generation telescopic sights that include range finders that calculate an aiming point on the objective lens of a scope based upon the distance to target and ammunition being used. These devices are currently legal because the aiming point is not projected onto the target.
I pulled this right off the fish and game website and if I interpreted it correctly then it is ok to use illuminated sights like the Eotech.
-
Sounds like he is good for bears. Good luck
-
An Eotech is not an infrared night vision device(is it?) nor does it project a laser beam onto the target. Not sure why it would be illegal for anything.

Illuminated reticles are legal.

Exactly. I have the reg book open in front of me (Dad and I were discussing some things this evening).
Page 78, Prohibited Hunting Methods #12. It is illegal to hunt deer and elk with the aid of infrared night vision equipment or with laser sights (not to include range finders) capable of projecting a beam onto the target, ect....
It says nothing of hunting bears with that method. And under the Fall Black Bear General Seasons, under the 'Hunting Method' section, it states "Hunters may use any lawful big game modern firearm, archer, or muzzleloader equipment for hunting black bear. The use of hounds and/or bait to hunt black bears is prohibited statewide."
