Just got done packing all my stuff, and getting the incidentals together for the bear trip this weekend. Need to check some cams in our deer area. 25+ miles deep into a wilderness!!! :)))
-
Dang have fun! 25 miles is a long pack for a bear. Better make it a bruit.. Good luck and take pics of the terrain. Always enjoy looking at wilderness photos.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty careful about wilderness photo's I post online, but I'll try and get some cropped down for forum appropriateness :)

man im jealous! you must have one hell of a spot if you walking 25 miles to get a bear! :chuckle: lol should be a good trip no matter what tho, good luck!
-

You're right, I'm lying. I just like to troll the internets.
Also, the bear hunt is incidental to scouting our high hunt area.

I know I personally wouldn't pack a stinky old bear that far, but good luck to ya!
-
yep, here we go! 8)
lets see if i cant be a part of bear #3 for the year hitting the dirt

They seem thick this year, I have seen 5 so far....... good luck FTF

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see what others decide to pack. I only see 2 mountainhouse, what other food are you taking?
-
Tough to see, right below the mountain house are zip lock bags with pop tarts and two vias for breakfast, cliff bar, Snickers, Costco trail mix, and butthole sandwich for lunch.
The sandwich is toasted bagel, peanut butter, honey and bacon.
Also take a zip fizz every day.

Good luck to ya. What kind of water purification are you choosing?
-
Platy gravity.

Nice! I have heard about the butthole sandwiches. I may have to try that for elk season. What is vias? Do the zip fizz taste any good? Are they loaded with caffeine? Sorry don't mean to be nosy, just curious and always looking for new ideas to try. Thanks again for sharing!

Good luck!!!
-
Awesome can't wait for the pics
-
Looks quite like an ultralight setup. What sleep system do you have there?
-
Vias is Starbucks instant coffee.
My sleep system is a Borah Bivy, Marmot Helium, Thermarest pro lite, and normally my shelter is a z packs hexamid solo plus, but FTF is bringing his sl5.

sawyer inline with platy 3L and dromlite 4L
-
from wednesday, almost packed
-
Sorry if I missed it.What is the total weight of your pack(with or without water)?
-
im at 52 all up. everything but my clothes and boots. thats 3L of water and a liter of whisky
-
With water, extra batteries and an extra trail camera, I'm at 51 lbs for the weekend. I think I'll be closer to 54 when I depart for nine days on the high hunt.

Where do you put the bear?
-
I cant think of a wilderness in WA where you couldnt get to the same spot via a different trail in a shorter distance than 25 miles, sure there isnt a different trail that will get you closer to the same spot in less distance?
-
Road closures = Bike

its not that far straight in, you have to make a traverse once you hit the ridges to get to the chosen basin, thats where the mileage adds up.

Im well aware of that...but 25+ miles :o

Bear goes in the pack.
Trust me, it's the closets by a long shot.

I can think of 2 that you could easily get 25 miles in. My high hunt spot is 29 miles from the truck I can get in from another direction in 23 miles but its over 3 passes and a lot harder hike.

I'm gonna bet it's a 25 mile loop or 25 mile round trip.

I'm going to bet you're wrong. :)
You guys are cracking me up though with your assertion that we are stretching the truth.

Best of luck to you! Looking forward to the pics!

Don't get sensitive that I am accusing you of stretching the truth. I took a guess and was wrong. Nothing to get worked up about. I think it's an amazing accomplishment that you can make that kind of hike. I do question a hike that far with meat on your back and your ability to get it out before it spoils, but I make no accusation of you stretching the truth. I am in no condition to do that myself. If you can do it, all the more power to you. I can't even imagine a 25 mile hike with 100+pounds on your back.

Oh I'm not mad, I don't get worked up on the internet.
We have a pretty good plan on getting it out, and it looks like the weather will cooperate a bit. I'll hopefully have some good pictures to post in a few days. I'm fighting a head cold right now, so that's going to suck.
-
Good luck on your wilderness - deer scouting - bear hunt. I bet you are worn out after doing 25 miles a day with a full hunting pack. I can barley do 20 miles a day with an ultra lite recreation pack. I have been reworking my hunting pack load trying to get it lighter. Transversing from ridge to ridge can be a killer. Anyway looking forward to seeing your bear.
-
I'll call bs cause I know where you went. In fact I told you everything I knew about the area
-
Just tagging along. This is great
-
Where do you put the bear?
:o I hope that you find way to save room for all meats and possible the hide........ Good luck on hiking.

Where do you put the bear?
How many miles before the bear gets out and carries you in the pack :chuckle:
Sorry, couldn't resist!

-
Congrats on filling the bear tag, is there a story that comes with it?
-
:camp: story?
-
:camp: story?
I've started another thread. I'll be home in a bit, and I'll write the story.
I'll throw up a pic though in the other thread.
-
are you using a tent? or do you have a tarp? sorry if I missed it. I keep going back and forth about tent vs two tarps.
-
FTF brings a floorless SL5.
-
Yea I was only back 33.3 miles on my last trip
-
Yea I was only back 33.3 miles on my last trip
Poacher. :P Seriously though, I'm headed 49.6 miles one way for high buck. Anything under 34 miles is just road hunting.
-
You guys are legit. I need to go do some more squats! :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I'm going to hike the pct from 90 to Canada. Lots of side trips obviously. Should be a good high hunt.
