Well, the time has finally come. I am heading out today for my annual mule deer trip. The first stop is Montana where I will be hunting between Miles City and Broadus. The ranch I lease has some huge deer! Only four bucks taken off 11,000 acres since 2003 and 1 was 34" and scored 214"! I will be there from the 26th - 30th and then I am headed to SW Colorado for the third season (Nov 1-7). Hopefully, I have some good pics to post when I get back! I am so excited I can hardly stand it.......just a few more hours of work.

Sounds like you'll have an amazing trip... Good luck, and bring back lots of pics

I will try tp update this thread from my Blackberry throughout the trip for those of you going to MT later on. I know the ranch had 16" of snow a week and a half ago. The bucks could be getting a little rutty!
-
Have fun. I was in Montana last week and the snow was gone. The deer grouped up pretty good. The small bucks were hanging around with the doe.
What unit are you hunting in Co? I should be able to draw a pretty good third season tag in a couple years.
-
Waty to rub it in JJ...... :P Id let important body parts freeze off to hunt rutting mulies in the rut. You taking your new rifle to wring out? Good luck to you and get a biggie.

I'll be a joinin' ya. Headed up to the Little Naches today for my minimilistic chance at a spike for a couple days and then to SE MT for Mulies and antelope. All play and no work makes NRA4LIFE a happy boy!
On days like this, does anybody else suffer from PHS (Pre-Hunting Syndrome)? Not to be confused with Post Hunting Syndrome. That's even worse. I'm pretty much useless today.

Craig, PM sent.
Sage, the new rifle is not a good subject. It was my fault for not spending enough time with it. Bottom line, I didn't get it chrono'ed and set up for long range, so I will be shooting my Kimber Montana 270 WSM with a 6-18 Swaro and the TDS dialed in. I am confident to 500 yards with this set-up.

Awesome! Wish I could go with ya man! My buddy lives near Morrison, Co (Red Rocks) and has a huge elk herd that runs through his property. Going next year to hunt with him on horseback....good luck buddy!

NRA, Do the symptoms include un-steady hands? It's either that or the three cups of Starbucks that I choked down this morning? Good luck in MT.
Savage - I will provide plenty o' pics to get you even more tuned up for next year!
-
Go get em JJ, I am right behind you. We are heading out on the 7th, will appreciate a weather report from SE Montana.
-
Phool, I'll provide a detailed report by the 28th.

The Kimber needs a few days in the field anyway. It only has one kill - a nice whitey with the late Palouse tag last year.
-
Thanks, Michael. I plan on heading to your neck of the woods with the archery tackle when I return!
