There is a pond where I am working and it has at least 100 to 150 mallards landing in it everyday ...I shot ducks off of it before but never seen that many ducks hitting this pond this early ....If they continue to stay there they will be in deep sheet come opening day !  :chuckle:

I need to figure out where you work so I can find that pond and slay some ducks!

I'm going to keep myself preoccupied this week by hitting the Salmon running up the Puyallup river. Put some Salmon in the freezer and then stack venison on top! It's a great time if year!

Grain harvest is running late this year, critters get moved out of their normal patterns and are tough catch up with.  Could make early season bow hunting a challenge this year.  Have not even figured out where to set up a stand or a blind yet.  Gear is tuned and ready to go and I've been practicing on a regular basis since march, so I'm as ready as I can get considering the circumstances.
Have most of the month of Sept. & the late season to get it done.  Got to admit, I like taking a deer toward the end of the season anyway, Feels strange hunting the early season in summer clothing.

Scouting has really paid off. My only problem is I wasn't going to do the elk this year because of lack of hunting partner but it seems elk are everywhere in abundance were I'm scouting, I nearly got ran over early this morning. Blessings and full freezers to you all.

I got almost everything done last night.  Pack is packed just can't find my GPS but I guess I don't really need it since I am on a farm hunting or I just go to my old standby.  Clothes are all in my huge zip lock bag after hanging outside for a while.  Tryied sitghting in my bow with the new toxic broadheads but they were all over the place.  Screwed my Muzzy MX3's back on and spot on.  I wonder since those Toxic cut so good maybe I didn't get all the foam off from my shot block?  Good luck guys I will be in the blind on Sunday trying for a mulie.

Mother nature made me a predator. For 45years I  have honed my hunting skills to the point that  I'm a shadow in the wilderness. I am death to anything I hunt, my kills are quick and clean.   When I hunt, neither animal nor man ever know that I have been there.   I'm a mountain man from the past. I'm an arrow slinging, Elk Bulging, Deer Stalking, Bear killing machine.  OH wait a minute that was a dream :chuckle:
Truth is I'm ready for a good time with friends and family, getting out in the woods and pitting my skills against mother natures tastiest animals.  I was lucky enough to draw the multi-season elk tag so with any luck I will have a photo of something to post by the end of the season(s). :)  So to answer the question,  Yes I'm ready, WAHOOO

I explained this to you....It's not that I don't shoot....It's that I make sure my last shots before I put a pin on fur is dead on. Its a confidence and mental thing. If I start jacking around in camp and shoot like garbage I may doubt myself when it is go time. I've done this with rifle and bow ever since I started hunting.

Your crazy.  Your one of those I only need 6 broadheads because I can hit a paper plate at 50 yards most of the time guys.  Where I like to be hitting a tennis ball out at 80 most of the time.  I have had stuff happen to my bow while hunting that can't be explained but go from shooting dead on to 6 inches low :dunno:.  You font shoot you don't know that you miss your one shot at an elk.  I'm not talking a bunch of arrows I'm talking 2 or 3 quality shots a day then call it good.  I have to much time and effort into it to find d out I missed because of my bow being off for whatever reason.

And thats the beauty of it, we all have our own way, yet can still get it done. I dont want to shoot a tennis ball at 80yds, I want to shoot an elk at 30. I can hit a paper plate at 50 every single time tho too.

Only 60 hours from now I'll be 17 ft. in the tree waiting for Mr. Blacktail . After 2 years of scouting this area this is the first time we will be able to hunt it (closed last year for fire danger). We've got 5 tree stands up and ready . My wife and I hit Cedar River last night , shot one of the trail courses , both of us dead on . Oh ya , we're ready . This is going to be a long 60 hours.

Not real excited about hunting this year, at least for myself.  Going to concentrate on helping my daughter get her deer and elk and I might go late archery for whities.  Early season has never been my thing anyways.
