Be sure to keep your wound dressing clean and dry while out in the field and that thumb should be feeling much better in a few days.  Broad heads make me nervous because when you make a mistake with them it's usually off the hospital

I feel for ya. I stepped on one full force last winter. Blade went all the way in the ball of my foot. I walked funny for two weeks. Had to get a tetanus shot too.

You beat me to that one. Also, sugar helps stop bleeding too. I've done it a lot. Doesn't hurt at all.

Yep thats what they did superglue and three butterflies.  Superglue is a great thing.  I have some with me while traveling this week for any touch ups if needed.

I know everyone serious about using super glue so it has me wondering, How do you get the super glue off? Or does it just get pushed off/out of the wound as it heals?
Maybe thats the next thing Ill need to add to my first aid kit.

it grows out with the new skin, its a great first aid treatment, as long as you can get the blood to stop you will be good to go, as it grows with the new skin it wears off  :tup:

If anyone uses sugar to stop bleeding don't leave it on the wound, after the bleeding stops clean with antiseptic or the sugar becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.  But it does work I use it myself.

Came upon a kid (24-25) a couple years ago that was having trouble dressing out a cow he had gotten. He failed to tell me that he had gut shot her before place one through lungs. Reach up inside her and got 3 inch cut in palm of hand from broken arrow still on her. Was not happy camper  :yike:

I only split the stomach on one of my animals and I had a hard enough time reaching up in that. I wouldn't do it for anyone else. :puke: kudos to you.

Been there, done that, age 15 or 16, just finished sharpening my Bear broadheads with the bleeder blade insert (removed), put some heat glue on the end of my arrow (way before screw in inserts), pushed the broadhead onto the arrow, rotated to spread the glue, and with one last bit of pressure... sliced across my left index finger.  Dad wasn't real happy to have to drive me 20+ miles to the ER at 10:30 pm.

Hope it heals well for you, I still have that scar.

Presents a good opportunity to remind bowhunters of a simple rule;

Never, ever try to turn your broadhead on or off the arrow shaft!!  Always hold the arrowhead firm and solid.  Use a table top or hard flat surface if needed.  Then turn the shaft only!

Broadhead wrenches are definitely effective.  But there is nothing safer than proper technique.

Glad you got away without any major damage klickman.  You're probably never a real bowhunter until you've dropped a bit of your own blood on the ground.  Maybe that's why Ted Nugent calls us all "blood brothers" :chuckle:

Not sure that wound is good enough to take the bloodiest H-W member title from Double J though ;)
