I have yet to use a trail cam, but kinda wondered if anyone has come across one and looked at what the card had on it... then replaced it.??
-
You wont get into mine.
-
If I am on public land and come across a trailcam that is not locked up, I will read the sd card with my picture viewer and then put the sd card back and make sure the cam is on. Just ran into one the other day. It is unattended out in the woods. Why not look at the pictures :).
Because its not yours. That's why not.

Or just walk right on by :bash: lol so if I found your truck unattended out in the woods with the keys still in it, could I jump on in and listen to the radio? Don't worry I'll turn it back off when I'm done

Im a firm believer in, if it isnt yours don't effing touch it... seems simple

That takes a set. I for one am not going to touch property that doesn't belong to me.

By that theory then an unattended quad is litter. I should keep it then. :bash:

Didn't we just have this same discussion about "What If I came up on someone sitting in my tree-stand". If I recall correctly once Its left unattended on public land. Its considered public property. So someone could very much get into your stand and hunt it and you really cant do anything about it, Sure a vehicle left unattended unlocked - that's a different story. Its registered to an owner in a state/nationwide DMV database, Is your tree stand? Is your ground blind? Is your camera? Naw. Trash and or public property. So unless you lock your camera and it has to be "broken into" I don't think there's any harm being done. If someone checks out your card, and places it back to the way they found it, You should be grateful they didnt just 1. Steal your card, 2. Steal your camera, 3. Bash your camera into 1000's of little pieces just for a laugh...

I cant stand it when people mess with my setup. Just a couple years ago I had some very nice bucks coming into my trailcam at my cabin (REMOTE PRIVATE PROPERTY) I had these bucks patterned and I could hardly stand the wait to opening day. I went up one last time to pull the cam just days before the opener. What I found made me angry. Some guy had come in kicked around my mineral licks then pissed all over the stump I had been pouring salt and apple jelly on. Never had pics of those bucks again. I posted the pics of that guys face all over FB and showed them to all my neighboring landowners. Nobody Recognized him, Nor has this son of a green %&#@*#&er showed up on my camera again! :bash:. I dont like trespassers, I dont like theives and I dont like people who display a complete lack of respect towards others. If I am out on public property or property that is open to the public, I try and watch for other peoples Sets or what not if I see them I avoid them or just leave all together.

Nope, Also has a registered owner through DMV. There's no question who owns it if law enforcement came, If law enforcement came over a tree stand, Or camera, How are you going to prove its yours. Because you say so?

Me neither, But that's because I have moral's, Im just talking from a legal standpoint. Some people don't care.

Easy to prove. I have the key that unlocks it. ;)

Why should someone have to be thankful that some d-bag did the right thing and left their SH*T alone!? That is assenine. If I came up on someone messing with my stuff there would definately be something exchanged (hopefully just some course words) I would be thankful if someone did something positive for me. That attitude seems backwards. I set multiple cameras when I do and chances are the way I set my cameras I will get your Plate # or a pic of your face

Could be a reasonable excuse, Alot of people aren't smart enough to lock they're stuff up. They figure "Hey Im remote enough"

so then you could just walk around putting locks on peoples cameras. kinda like a dog p*ssing on things makes him the owner

How many people are going to believe " oh sorry sir, I was just looking at your pictures real quick, I was going to put it as I found it" right!!!! If I walked up and saw someone touching my camera first thought would be its being stolen. And I bet this would be everyone else's first thought also. How hard is it to just walk by and give a wave? Considered litter or not? You know it's not yours, leave it alone. simple as that!

Guaranteed, If you would have touched that person because they were touching your camera- Charges could be filed. There's no proof on who's camera it is. Even if "you knew the name on the camera" All that takes is to of beat the person there and scoped out the same ID card. Its not the wrong attitude, Its just fact. Im myself very humble and dont touch other peoples stuff. Im speaking realisticly though. If you put your stuff out there, Unsecured - and It gets touched, You ONLY have yourself to blame.

Thats what I would do, Maybe even make some qwerky faces to make the dude laugh :chuckle: Again. Im just saying we know there's people out there like that, Work your way around it and do what you can to keep your things yours. Trail camera's and tree stands are not cheap by any means.

There's probably alot of solid hunters with good ethics who walk by camera's and leave them alone while just trying not to cross the path of the camera just so there is no false trips. I only place my cameras on MY POSTED PRIVATE PROPERTY. So if I walk up on someone touching my camera 1. they are Trespassing. 2. They are probably stealing. 3. I'm in fear for my life. I will be armed and you will be told to leave.

Your right private property specifically is DEFINITELY a nono and a whole diff story. I was speaking in terms of public lands. Sorry for any confusion there.

Actually your not exactly right there. I have gotten several people on my cams over the years. Nobody has ever even come closer to check out my cams. Several just wave and walk on by. I have yet to ever have some dumb*** mess with my stands, blinds or cams and I hunt public land. Guess I have more respectful people in my area.

Why are you getting all offensive like Im the one that has touched your camera's? I never said you wouldn't get people on cam. I said Im sure there are people that have seen your / other peoples camera's and attempted to avoid them. Not all people want to be seen on camera. They go into the woods for solitude and to hunt. No it's your idea that if someone leaves something in the woods for their hunt you think that not only os it ok for other people to help themselves to it, but that it's the original owners own fault. That's my issue.

I guess for me its a matter of common courtesy. Its a really simple concept. There's no debate, bickering, right, wrong. It is what it is. But I know common courtesy is not for everyone and that's why nobodys getting into my cameras without the keys or an oxy-acetylene cutting torch.

Well your issue is your own, I could really care less. I was just stating fact, That's how it works. Sure we would like to think if its put out there it wouldn't be touched, Sure we would love world peace. That's not the way it works though. I never said its OK and I never AT ALL said it was ok, so get off your high horse and face the facts. Really tired of alot of your negativity. Open your eyes. Dont put your stuff in the woods and expect it not to be touched just because you think "That's the right thing". The right thing is to 1. Find private land to hunt, 2. Secure your stuff so it wont be messed with as easy, 3. Hike more than 1-2 miles off a road and place your stuff while at the same time securing it.
-
As usual you have no idea what your talking about. I have no idea what your talking about negativity towards you. So I didn't agree with you. Boo-hoo, grow up and deal with it.

That's my point, People put stuff out there, Unlocked, Unsecured. Then complain when its gone or been tampered with. I don't see how they could expect anything less.
Gonna spend the money on a $100+ camera? Great, dont be cheap and spend the extra $10-30 on a lock to make sure its still there when you come back. That's all.
Personally I'm getting tired of all the complaining. It sucks yes. Did someone bring bolt cutters / torch / or a chainsaw to cut down the tree that your camera was on?
Oh no, dang they just lifted your camera off the mount it was sitting on and walked off with it, :dunno:

shoot, I had 6 cameras out all summer and the furthest one from a road was only a few hundred yards and had no issues, didn't get anybody on my cams and saw tons of bulls and buck and a few bears :dunno:
-
As usual you have no idea what your talking about. I have no idea what your talking about negativity towards you. So I didn't agree with you. Boo-hoo, grow up and deal with it.
Is it that you forgot how to read, or forgot how to decipher the english language? Has nothing to do with "growing up" It has everything to do with understanding how the world works and what you need to do to prevent idiots touching your stuff.

Man that got snippy real quick.
I love the link to the buddies messing with camera and putting other images on... priceless.
Also might wrap myself up in tin foil and walking by a few cameras would be hilarious.
Bigfoot costume??

I had nothing else to do and hadn't rattled smossy's cage in awhile. :chuckle:

Try looking at the "dummy trail cam with uv dye pepper spray...." thread.
I almost got suckered into a discussion about the leagality of booby-trapping. I'm sure he will spend time in developing and marketing and make millions.
-
Lagnar, so did you find one, pull the card and look at it?
-
Trail cams should be outlawed except on private property.
-
I like to get all naked, tie a rope around my junk and drag a boat anchor through the trail cameras with nothing but my 'nads

My trailcams leave less of a footprint than I do on public grounds, we should just ban hunting everywhere but private property :chuckle:

If I am on public land and come across a trailcam that is not locked up, I will read the sd card with my picture viewer and then put the sd card back and make sure the cam is on. Just ran into one the other day. It is unattended out in the woods. Why not look at the pictures :).
Why not?
Besides the fact that it is not yours, you could be screwing the tcam owner.
Some trail cams won't work well with a card that has been viewed by a camera and not formatted.

Licensing trail cams sounds like a great idea, all of a sudden they become registered private property, with there own unique number and license then you can call somebody when they disappear.
-
Easy. Not yours. Smile and keep walking.

Or photo bomb it. :chuckle:

Wait a minute H20. I believe that you have been known to take off your shirt and strike poses in front of a trail cam. You do a little more than smile and keep walking my friend... :chuckle:

Didnt touch it......

All of my trail cams have a serial number and all are registered with my warranty cards and my home owners insurance. So they are registered private property. I have my cameras out almost year round and I know that one day one will get stolen. I expect others to leave my stuff alone but I understand that in this world that I can expect to be disappointed in others.
Licensing trail cameras is a terrible idea. I don't need anymore government regulations in my life.
-
If I see a TCam on public property. I'll smile, maybe give a thumbs up, and move on. Don't mess with it.
Just like if I was hunting on public land. Walk out in the dark, to my spot. If I see someone else has beat me to it. I slowly walk out and drive down to another spot before sunrise. I don't sit down next to the guy and whisper good luck.
Its courtesy, & sportsmanship.

While out bear hunting recently I ran into a logger marking trees & he was very adamant about trail cams, blinds & such being litter in his opinion, & if on public land would "take it down" especially if area will be logged out anytime soon...
I have seen a few cams and give a wave or an oh $#!+ look, & if I'm caught by ya in "your spot" on public land too bad, does the guy who leaves rope at green river get first jump only the first day then it's 1st come, pack it out...

It is interesting that the logger said that in his opinion cameras, blinds and such are concedered litter and he would take them down if he found them on public land. In my opinion when loggers mark their cut boundaries with miles of colored ribbon, paper signs and paint is litter, so using his logic does that mean if it is on public land can I take their markings down; especially if I'm going to hunt the area soon?

its just his way of rationalizing being a thief. i see nice cars and such on public land all the time, with no owner nearby. does that make the cars litter? if hes out logging and you take all his gear out of his truck, which is parked on public land, arent you just picking up abandoned litter by his way of viewing things?

That is kind of what I was thinking.
