I am new in Washington and I was wondering if wild boar (hog) hunting is legal in WA. Any info would be helpful.Thank you!
-
You hear the occasional rumor of some wild boar down by the Columbia, but I haven't seen a pic in years.
10 years ago (or so) there were some escapee pigs doing damage on the Olympic Peninsula and WDFW opened a no limit season. I haven't heard of a wild pig out there in a while, either..
You won't find anybody guiding for them, hunting them here, posting pics, etc. (at least that I know of)
That's all I know..... but I think we're pretty hog free for the time being.

Thanks for your response...Actually one guy was telling me about his boar hunting in King County area....probably it was BS !!!
-
go after nutria instead
-
Hahaha ....I'll try !!! ;) ;) ;)

According to the DFW, we had some boar on the Olympic Peninsula and they were eradicated. At this time, they tell me, no wild boar or feral pigs/hogs exist in WA. I believe we're the only one of the lower 48 who can claim that. Not sure.

Thanks a lot for info!!!

i have heard tell that there are ferral hogs out around ocean shores, but who knows, good luck. i know i wouldnt mind spearing a wild boar, i bet that would be fun
-
Actually I will go to the Olympic Peninsula this fall and I'll see if I can find something....If I even find something I won't be able to shoot it,because we can't buy boar tags in WA......

You don't need a licenses to kill them. They would be considered an invasive species. And besides, DFW says we don't have any, so... :dunno:
-
A few years back there were some near Montesano/Elma and they thought the pigs would move up into the Wynoochee and into the park. I heard they were all killed off.
-
no good :(

You may have better luck finding bigfoot than wild boar :chuckle:

They hang out at The Porthole Pub on friday and saturday nights... You can normally bait them with a vodka cran and a side of meth.

I had a friend a few years back that would always try and get me to go with him and his buddies. They said there was quite a bit of boars down around the same areas that everyone said they used to be. Always sounded like BS to me....

We don't want wild boar or feral pigs in WA. They kill and eat fawns and I would suspect, elk calves, too. They do tons of crop damage. $50M in TX alone last year. Go there if you want to hunt them. Plenty of opportunity.

I'm not a resident of Texas which means I have to pay 10 times more money than TX residents do....and I'm not gonna do that.. I'm new in WA and I just wanna learn more about this state and hunting in this state....I don't give a crap about other states

I think that $315 also gets you 7 deer, a few turkey and unlimited hogs and other exotics...maybe even alligators.

there is a place in oregon that you can hog hunt, its called CLARKS RANCH if i remember right and you can kill hog and russian boar for pretty cheap, i might run down there just so i can have butcher boys make me some peppered belly bacon
-
Buford Spring Ranch in enterprise oregon has faral hogs. I took my son down a few years ago and had a blast. I think it was $320 for 2 nights in there cabin and 3 days hunting.
-
Being from the south and seeing the damage done by pigs... I don't care how much it would cost somebody for an out of state tag. Pigs would decimate Washington. Having an cheaper license (resident) is nice, but the amount of money it takes to manage wild hogs on top of the habitat destruction and therefore other large game destruction is a cost much higher than a plane ticket and out of state license. Add to that hunting in a state that already has them really hepls that state manage the pigs.
Don't give a crap about any of the other states?? Hmm...
-
The picture is typical of northwest hog hunts. Notice the ear tag and ear notches. Some one turned a domestic porker loose and let some one shoot it. The weapon of choice should be a rattling feed bucket to avoid meat damage.

I think that was a ranch hunt? Meaning not wild but on a largeish ranch? Not really my cup of tea but you can't argue the fact about that bacon! Yummy! There are a few ranch "hunts" I could see myself doing they would be bison or new zealand red stag. Bison just for the meat and stag because they're awesome!

wild pigs in king county? :o :o maybe on highway 99 after midnight :chuckle:
