Title: St Helens
Post by: oldschooltrucks on September 05, 2013, 07:15:13 PM: I thought I saw a thread on here about Mt St Helens but cant find it. I'm heading to Mt St Helens this weekend to say I've seen it lol. My question is, is it worth my time to look around the area for bears on my way back?

Post by: jgoetz on September 05, 2013, 11:40:30 PM: They are there. Had one run across the trial in front of me 2 years ago while I was climbing St. Helens. Talk about brown noting it. Alone on a trail at 5 am with nothing but a head lamp illuminating otherwise sheer blackness. :yike:

St Helen's is absolutely gorgeous, and Intimidating, When your at the base, Its soooo wide its aww inspiring.

If i was you i would state fish and game up their to find out what part you can. I saw some guys on houres bsck and they had orange gear bags on the houres and a 3rd houres in geussing for a meat packer. I would call somone :dunno:

yes the 560 is open to hunting up to the eastern edge and then west along the crater. Look in the area descriptions in the game regs. You might need a climbing permit to be on the mountain is probably what the ranger is talking about.

No it is a national monument for the time being despite the push to make it a national park. The areas that are not open to hunting are closed because it is in the Loowit unit.

Post by: justaguy on September 09, 2013, 09:55:11 PM: I was in that area this weekend and heard a couple of bugles in the distance (or people bugling) at daybreak. I also heard and saw around a hundred berry pickers spread out over the couple of immediate ridges. No animal poop (lots of human), fresh tracks, or anything that got my blood flowing. The area's beautiful, though.
