Title: Winch talk
Post by: carpsniperg2 on September 12, 2013, 04:54:21 PM: Hey guys. I just bought a trailer for the samurai and got a winch with it. It's a z3500 warn. So my master plan is to mount it on the samurai and use it on the trailer just when needed. I am wondering if it will be enough. Or if I should just cough up the money for a bigger winch. My samurai weighs in at around 2600lbs.

Thoughts?

It'd probably work ok for pulling it onto the trailer.

Post by: Mike450r on September 12, 2013, 05:14:17 PM: It will work, I second the snatch block recommendation. You will run into trouble maybe if pulling dead weight straight through the mud but with assistance from the sammie it should do good.

I have yet to get the samurai stuck and tried pretty hard last year. Fixed my transfer case and now she is a machine. I would for sure try to help it and not pull dead weight. I also thought it would be nice to use with the 1200' of rope I have to drag a critter out if needed. Just half hitch the rope ever so often when I run out of winch line.

Just went and dug threw it and low and behold a brand new 7 warn snatch block still sealed in the box!!! Got to love free surprises :IBCOOL:

You've got it backwards. A winches rated pull is with a single layer of cable left on the spool. The more you spool out,the more it'll pull.

Post by: timberghost72 on June 06, 2014, 09:46:44 PM: Keep in mind that if you're depending on a snatch block for heavy pulls that you may not have enough line if your anchor point its too far away for doubling up. I've been stuck a few times where the only anchor point was almost the distance of the cable length. :twocents:

Post by: buglebuster on June 06, 2014, 09:54:09 PM: I had 2 on my toyota. A warn m8000 and a smitty built xrc8. Both great winches and the price of the smitty built can't be beat :tup: I'd leave the little one strictly for the trailer.

HuntandFish is exactly right. However, there will also be a slower pull.
