Title: Glacier training on Mt Baker
Post by: Rob on September 13, 2013, 08:54:34 AM
A buddy of mine and I headed up to Mt Baker last weekend to get soem experience with glacier travel.  We are working towards a goal of climbing Baker and Rainer between now and next June.

We practiced roping up, rope travel, communications, arresting a falling climber on your rope, and crevass rescue with anchors and z pulley set up.

Pretty fun trip and the glacier holds a terrifying beauty.  Hoping to get back up there in a couple weeks to play some more!

Went back up on thus/fri 9/26&27 to get some more time on the ice.  We dodged the big storm (they are calling for 5 feet of snow and 110 mph winds on the summit today!), but still got a mix of clear skies, near zero viz and snowfall.  Volitile time of year!
