Taking off for my Wyoming Region H mule deer hunt tomorrow night with my dad, brother, and a close friend. Should be a good time whether we find deer or not. We've got some maps for a few of the units (151,152,153,154, and 142) and talked to a few people about the region, but no serious plans. :bdid: I guess we'll figure it out when we get there. If anyone has some last minute adivce, we're open to suggestions.

Good luck to ya, sorry I can't help with region h. We're headed to region w in a couple weeks. W is the only region I've hunted in wy so far.

Thanks for the good wishes. The weather looks like it should be nice, at least for camping. Not much rain in the forcast. None of us have ever hunted in Wyoming so it should be a fun adventure. I just hope I can shoot straight. I've been archery hunting for so many years that this rifle hunting seems almost new again.

Well, we had a great hunt. The first three days were spent driving around trying to find some easy deer for the old man, but there was no such thing. We spent day 3 lost on some never-ending road (trail) that we were lucky to make it out of. Good thing it wasn't raining or we'd probably still be there. By day 4 we were beginning to get a bit frustrated, and we knew we had to get off the roads and up in the hills to find deer. So my brother and I left the old men and headed up one of the many trails into the back country. At about the 5 mile mark, I finally found a decent buck (3x3 about 16 inches tall and wide) and killed it with one shot (this rifle hunting is easy :chuckle:). We boned it out and were back down at camp by early afternoon. We spent the afternoon playing cards and enjoying a few bottles of Pendleton. The next morning we headed up the same trail. After only going about 3 miles, we spotted a decent buck feeding out by himself, and my brother was able to put him down with one shot. This time we were back at camp with the deer taken care of by 10:00. Did I mention how easy this rifle hunting is? So now the only tag remaining was my dad's. We knew he couldn't make it too far up the mountain, but I talked him into taking a little hike that evening. Well, we only went about a quarter mile up the same trail when a little 3x2 stood up in the brush about 50 yards away. My dad dropped it and our hunt was over. We ended up taking 3 deer off the same trail in about a 32 hour span. None of the deer were huge. My brother's was the largest, a nice 3x4 about 20 inches wide. If we ever make it back, we'll spend a bit more time up high and try to hold out for something a bit larger. Overall, it was a great hunt, but probably not the best for people who are limited with their mobility. Sorry, all the pictures are on my brother's phone.

Ya, I've spent enough time in the woods during modern firearm to know that it's not easy, especially with all the people.

You must be pretty unlucky to not draw with a point. I think last year it was about 98% with 1 point. Don't know what it was this year.
We hunted close to the town of Bondurant, in unit 153 I believe but I'll have to check on that. Not sure of any mountain names.

The south rim is just west of Bondourant. We did not have any points. Not getting drawn does not get you a point there. Points must be purchased.

You're letting $40 stopping you from hunting?
-
If you havn't bought a point yet, I think you have until the 30th. As long as Wyoming doesn't go crazy and raise the prices too much, we plan on going back in a couple years.

howd your hunt go?
