This memorial and another one with a cross are on a hillside in Joe Watt Canyon. They are very nicely done and on a hillside with a view across the canyon. I'd like to know who he was.

Thanks KC. He has a great resting place, I'd like to spend my time on that hillside too. This is his view.

Small world. I worked with this guy at Appleway Toyota in the early 90's, remember him as a helluva good guy.

What a nice spot for a Submariner to Stand the Watch.

The Watch
For twenty years
This sailor has stood the watch
While some of us were in our bunks at night
This sailor stood the watch
While some of us were in school learning our trade
This shipmate stood the watch
Yes.. even before some of us were born into this world
This shipmate stood the watch
In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history
This shipmate stood the watch
Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there
Needing his guidance and help
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times
But he still stood the watch
He stood the watch for twenty years
He stood the watch so that we, our families and
Our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety, Each and every night
Knowing that a sailor stood the watch
Today we are here to say
'Shipmate... the watch stands relieved
Relieved by those You have trained ,Guided, and Lead
Shipmate you stand relieved.. we have the watch..."
"Boatswain..Standby to pipe the side...Shipmate's going Ashore.."

Hi everyone :hello: I see this topic is a little old but I just found it. My name is Mike and Doug was the patriarch of CruiserVille Elk camp in Joe Watt Canyon. We are the ones with all the Land Cruisers and the big shelter with the world series on the TV and the 3 stack fire pit. Stop by next elk season and say hi. We lost Doug last year and camp isn't the same. He always had a smile and loved hunting on the LT Murray in his yellow FJ40. He and Dan (the other memorial next to his) started CruiserVille in the 70's We have been in that spot ever since. Doug was a Sonar Tech on a couple boats out of Hawaii and after getting out he was in the fisheries patrol then on to the WSP and retired and went on to sell cars for the last 25 years. We sent him out with a bang. Literally. We shot his ashes out of a potato gun from that spot. It was pretty cool. Anyway, that is a little about him.

That's a great follow up to the story. He sounds like the kind of guy who would love to have his ashes spread via spud gun.

Thanks.

Thank you for that follow up. I'm guessing you are there bow season with the series playing. I'll stop by. I live just down the road on Watt Canyon Rd.
