What do you guys use for western Washington shot size. It has to be non toxic so I go larger. Last year I started Winchester xpert steel in size 6 and I would cover up birds and they would just keep flying. So I bumped up to prairie storm 3 inch 3s and heavi metal 3 inch 4s. Didn't loose many after that. This year I'm giving hevi metal 2 3/4 5s and the prarie storm 3 inch 3s the go. I'm hoping to mainly use the 5s. I really like the heavy metal loads, they seem to shoot more like lead and since I'm hunting over pointing dogs(setter) I don't get many long shots. Going with skeet and ic for chokes in the over under and ic in the pump/auto.
What's everyone else using?

For chickens on the wetside I go sporty and use classic doubles 6's in my .410,I also hunt with a setter

The 2 3/4" hevi metal #5's are a great all around westside pheasant over a setter load. I went through a box last season with no complaints.

The MN DNR did a several year study on steel shot size effectiveness on pheasants and they concluded that #2s were best for longer shots and were just as effective as smaller shot sizes at close range. My experience pretty much agrees with their findings.

Winchester expert 6s with my 410 no problem with western wa pheasants but that is over my gsp

4's backed up by 2's :twocents:

Kent Fasteel 4's.
No need for better shot on these pen-raised birds.

:yeah: Or Kent Fasteel in #3 or #4. Also my go to for ducks. If I can dump a green head at 25 yards that I just jumped, then it will kill any pheasant

2"3/4 #4's work great for me
