Commission to consider amending
state wildlife interaction rules
OLYMPIA - The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will consider amending state wildlife interaction rules during a public meeting Oct. 4 in Olympia.
Those rules include conditions that allow ranchers and farmers to take lethal action to protect livestock from predators, as well as for compensation for the loss of livestock killed by predators.
The commission, a citizen panel appointed by the governor to set policy for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), will convene in Room 172 of the Natural Resources Building, 1111 Washington St. S.E. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
An agenda for the meeting is available at http://wdfw.wa.gov/commission/. (http://wdfw.wa.gov/commission/.)
Prior to their regular meeting in Olympia, the fish and wildlife commissioners and WDFW staff will meet in Marysville with tribal representatives from Puget Sound and the Washington coast to discuss a variety of resource management issues. The discussions will take place at the Tulalip Casino on Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. and continue the following day at the same location beginning at 8:30 a.m.
During the commission's regular meeting Oct. 4 in Olympia, commissioners will consider proposed amendments to wildlife interaction rules that are more consistent with Washington's Wolf Conservation and Management plan and to implement 2013 legislation.
The amendments are available online at http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development.html. (http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development.html.)
Those amendments include:
•Making permanent an emergency rule that permits ranchers, farmers, and other pet and livestock owners in the eastern third of the state to kill a wolf that is attacking their animals.
•Adding sheep, goats, swine, donkeys, mules, llamas and alpacas to the list of animals livestock owners could be compensated for if those animals are killed by wolves. The current list only includes cattle, sheep and horses.
•Permitting state compensation regardless of whether livestock owners were raising the animals for commercial purposes.
•Compensating livestock owners for their losses at market value.
In other business, the commission will consider two land transactions, and will receive briefings on wolf management activities this summer and updates to Hydraulic Code Rules, which regulate construction around state waterways to protect fish.

People are already taking care of their wolf problems, going to WDFW has been a total waste of time.
I kind of think WDFW are worried about their out of control wolf population and their refusal to confirm wolf packs having a back lash shortly. And WA is turning into Idaho etc. in attitude concerning wolf management programs of their own. :bfg:

That, and that Oct 2 meeting looks bought and paid for......

Hold a meeting like that in Stevens County, Ferry County, Okenogan county ETC
-
seems to me like it would make more sense to have a meeting about wolves depredating on livestock where it actually happens, instead of hundreds of miles away for people who dont have to ever deal with it as a part of their lives

WDFW don't like having meetings where they get told what they can do with there wolves, they would rather hold meetings where the majority of those attending don't have to contend with wolves killing their livestock or chitting in their yard.

A few short years ago people had more open minds in Stevens County, the new mindset here is the result of the actions of WDFW. As wolves invade additional counties and the WDFW denies the truths about wolves, more counties will be changed like has happened in Stevens County. This meeting in western WA is a perfect example of why the people in Stevens County feel the way they do. Sadly WDFW probably don't even care, all they are concerned about is satisfying the millions of west side wolf worshippers whom they view as a cash cow.

Why, from PR fund and license fees, of course. Just like most of the reintroduction money back in 1996, they're using the money of hunters and sportsmen to fund their own demise.

Currently the masses think they want these frolicking, cuddly, wolves, once wolves hit the masses in the pocket book and wolves start eating pets in the I-5 suburbs, then wolves will need managed because the I-5 masses will want wolf management.

And just like IDFG, WDFW will then leap to their feet and exclaim that the wolves need to be controlled, after of course the damage has been done, and there is no chance that hunting seasons on wolves will have any affect.

Stevens county isn't a lost cause.
They told me last year they shot all of them!! Why not believe them.
Besides when we were the only folks who had wolves the majority of the folks on here could have cared less they weren't in their yards!!
Now since they have branched out it is HIGH time to do something!!!
Guess I have as much sympathy for them as they did for our backyard!!! :sry:
Like the song say's:
My Give a Damn is busted!!!

The true impact of wolves is not being seen by the public yet, because WDFW fail to report them. Instead they lie, just as they lied when they said they took out the full pack last year.
What they didn't tell folks is there was more then one wolf pack, just as is in the Methow Valley and other counties. In the Methow they could have confirmed three other packs in 2008, but by confirming only one they are off the hook for other packs, which still doesn't stop them from lying about the one pack they did confirm. When pressed on the issue of confirming more wolf packs, their excuse is it is too expensive to monitor wolf packs for confirming at this time. It's total BS.
I probably understand your frustration better than most, and if the truth were to be told, I highly doubt anything will be done until the impacts the wolves are causing can't be hidden from the public anymore.
Three to four years ago many people thought WDFW would be responsible, they wouldn't, or couldn't believe WDFW would throw them under the bus. Now I see a change in their thinking. People are becoming aware that WDFW are not interested in hunting. WDFW have and are protecting predators while refusing to a-dress the impact too many predators are having on the game herds. Look how long it took IDFG to acknowledge the impact wolves were having on their game herds, WDFW is the new IDFG, directed by the USFWS.
