So I have wanted to get over and hunt the east side but when summer comes around I never find the time to just go and scout. Ive decided im just going to go and do it and we'll chalk it up as a scouting trip if we come back empty.
I also started a new job recently that will allow me to get more time off and make a 4 day weekend out of it. Ill be archery hunting the late season.
My only questions is where can I get in at? I have no clue as to where I can get into the forest at. Im assuming its mostly NF land and private.
And the only other thing for those of you that hunt the late season over there and or live there whats the weather like in late November? Snow? too much snow?
Any help is appreciated
Thanks!
Jason

121 is mostly private with smaller chunks of dnr and other publi lands throughout it. 117 has a lot more access in such as national forest and the little pens orielle wildlife refuge. I would recommend getting a public land map of both units. They should have them at Clark's in colville.

Cool thanks for the info! Ill see what I can come up with. I may end up hunting both units? they are pretty close. Ill get ahold of some maps too! The harvest reports look good though!

121 has tons of DNR land and NFS LAND

As pa Ben said 121 has a lot of dnr and private timber holdings that you can hunt. A lot of the roads are now closed but you can foot access them. Both units have lots of hunt able ground. Having lived in them both for the last 25 years you may not have the success you are hoping for but you should see game. Get a map and good luck.

Awesome thanks guys! Ill track down some maps and see what I can come up with. Ive hunted very little of the east side but I loved the terrain (as opposed to ferns, sage, vine maple...) I know im getting a late start and the odds are against me but thats why they call it hunting!
Getting out and exploring new areas and seein game is good enough for me!

In many places both 117 and 121 are as brushy as anywhere you may have hunted on the west side...........
If you are talking late archery.......there can be alot of snow, and very cold temps to go with that. SOme years late modern is the same.
I personally think late archery whitetail in every unit except 101 is too late.....as in mostly post rut. I see way more activity mid month. So much, that this year I will be in a tree late modern with my bow, ( multi-tag ) in the thicker areas I like for that purpose.

Im just gonna have to keep an eye on the weather and be in touch with some of you guys that live over there. I dont mind snow or cold temps.
Either way Ill get a lay of the land and a good idea of where I can go for the following season!

Good luck...........
