I got to thinking and I want a shotgun season for big game. 15 day season with a late season would be cool.
What does everyone think?
-
Not a bad idea for some GMUs, and add in .209 primed muzzys
-
There's no room for it. Only so many days in a month. You can hunt with a shotgun during modern firearm if you choose to do so. Good opportunities in firearm restriction areas where rifles are not allowed, but shotguns, archery, and muzzleloader is.
-
Its called firearms restricted areas.
-
Use your shotgun during the regular season..

What Bobcat said.

Ya there is no room for a shotgun season.
-
Not interested in a dedicated shotgun season. I'd imagine other existing seasons would have to be shortened to make room. :bdid:

I was thinking a Medieval Catapult season. Let's face it, it would be bad-ass.

Absolutely no need for a shotgun season. If you want to use your shot gun can use one in modern season or use your muzzle loader shot gun with a round ball in Muzzleloader season or general season. No need for a 209 muzzle loader season any where. Talked to land owners who are against a high powered rifle in their area and possibly get access when you use a shotgun. I have shot a white tail with a .69 patched roundball in my 12 gauge flint in the late season and did the job.

Just what we need another user group. NOT! :bdid:

bobcat summed it up quite well. no need for one. I have shot 2 nice bucks on a refuge, modern rifles are not allowed. mike w

I posted here, took it down(wasn't nice).Another try at it,we have enough rules, regs, restrictions ETC without throwing something else in the mix that would only cripple what we are fighting to keep allready. We have the seasons we have when we have them for a reason (according to the people that make the rules anyway)and if you throw in another season we would get cut back from this many days to hunt to almost half that which we get now.so in your poll there should be DO YOU THINK THIS IS WAY OUT THERE (being carefull not to offend anyone lol); :twocents: :sry: in advance.

I live in a firearm restricted area so damn near everyday is shotgun season for me! Killed every buck with 20 gauge rifled slugs

what gmu do you hunt? I have never seen it before in the book but I havent really read it other then the rules of the units I hunt.

The last thing we need is another user group to get a slice of the pie.

Check out page 81 in the hunting regs, lists firearm restricted areas by county.

I've killed a couple deer in Kitsap with a shotgun... During regular season.. Firearm restricted areas are perfect for them already... They were both shot with 00 buck out of a modified choke...
-
Is pistol hunting allowed in "restristed" firearm areas... and... What are restricted areas?
-

I'd like a truly primitive spear and boulder season.
-
A modern rifled barrel shotgun is essentially no different than a rifle. Firearm Restricted areas are a joke, I'd rather have a 180 gr 30-30 round hit my house than a 250 gr @ 1800 fps (20ga sabot) or a 1 ounce 12 ga. slug. I can use a .454 Casull revolver but not a .22 rifle to hunt rabbits. Sorry for the side track.
There should be no special season for shotguns for reasons others have mentioned above.
Is pistol hunting allowed in "restristed" firearm areas... and... What are restricted areas?
It is pretty clearly written in the regs, check them out sometime.... Revolvers are allowed.
-

Yes you can use a revolver with a barrel 4" or longer Must be a revolver, and at least 24 Cal. Its in the regs. I've hunted BT with a .357 before, and it wasn't too bad... its cool pistol hunting.
Does anyone know if the contender single shots in rifle cartridges apply to restricted areas?
-
I will be deer hunting with a shotgun again this year. I shot this guy last year. Taxidermist just called to say it will be done tomorrow. Cant wait to see it.
-
I wouldn't want a shotgun season....maybe if it was open to all tag holders just requiring shotguns, it could be something considering. But I would think it might be a bad idea due to all the wounded animals that might be lost--can you imagine all the guys that would be taking 60-80 yard shots on animals with 00 buck.
-
I have taken two deer on Whitney Island with shotgun. Neither deer took a step and went to the ground immediately. I used sabot slugs which really pack a punch. The key in my op-pinion with a shotgun is to hunt like an archer to get as close as possible. My rule of thumb is to not shoot more then 50 yards. I practiced up to 50 yards and successfully hit the kill range at 50yards with these slugs each time. Sabot slugs developed orig-ionally by the military have plastic sheath that spin the slug inside of a smooth bore gun. I can't see a problem hunting with a shotgun as long as common sense is used. Practice, use good ammo, and don't take risky shots that only wound animals.

It depends on the restriction, a WDFW restriction allows revolvers. Counties can get even more restrictive, where a buddy lives only 'shotguns with shot' and archery are allowed.
-
We already have shotgun season, several actually, it's called bird hunting. ;)
-
bad idea....
-
yes, maybe we can have a specific shotgun season, then lets make a specific trad bow season, and a specific hand gun season, then we can legalize crossbows and make a specific crossbow season. that way all the seasons will be so short everybody will HAVE to buy a multi season tag just to get time to hunt.
-
I think fixed income retirees should get free automatic multi season deer and elk. So there.
-
I think the whole west side should be
scatter(slug) gun only.. Due to all the thick vegetation most shots are within 30 yards anyways..unless you're glassing and hunting a 2 year old clear cut, which those are far and few these days.

lot of high country on the wetside that is ideal LR rifle country.

Nope, can't use them.

Plenty of places that modern rifles are/would be safe and effective, even here in the islands....

Not that i doubt you Loki, But what do you have to back that up? The only reference in the regs i can see is" revolver like handguns" In the firearms restricted areas. pg 81 YET when discussing handgun hunting on page 76 it only states that 4 in of barrel and 24 cal center fire for big game except cougar. I would read that as Semi autos are legal in areas other than restricted firearm areas. I don't think it is clear from the regs how a single shot falls into this...

His answer was specifically for use in "firearm restriction" areas which limit handguns to "revolver-type handguns. While that term is not specifically defined anywhere, I believe most enforcement officers or judges would consider a single shot handgun to not be "revolver-type".

Lot's of clearcuts on private forest land
