OK GUYS, KILLING THE TIME BEFORE I LEAVE FRIDAY
Lets all share our Deer Rifles and Caliber
Gun stories would be Great also
Mine is a old wood stock Remmington model 760 pump action in my favorite caliber 30-06
My Uncle gave it to me. It was my grandpas' brothers' for all the years He hunted the woods.
I upgraded it with a Nikon 3x9x40 scope and a set of weaver see threw scope mounts (just in case I need the open sites)
Also put on a slip on limb saver (wow that thing work great)
shoots strait as hell and with a fairly short barrel its loud as ****.
longest shot to date was at 250+ yards. (black tail spike)
love this gone and don't plan on replacing it any time soon.
Favorite thing about this gun is the pump action. Every time I am target practicing with it someone always says "that's a pump" Yes and in 30-06.
Have a great season and be safe :hello:
-
Last year - my sporterized 8mm Mauser. This year - my Ruger 250 Savage. If I get over how weird it feels - the 6.8 AR I built.
-
Winchester M70 classic in 300 ultra mag.
-
Haven't hunted with a rifle for years but if I did it would be either my .250 Savage or my left handed Springfield 30-06.
-
Marlin lever action in .308 Marlin Express

-
My first deer rifle has become my go-to gun for years. A Remmy 700ADL .30-06 with a Leupold 3x9, I have many more choices now but it seems like I always grab the .30-06. It's got a history of one shot kills that makes it hard to leave behind, longest shot was out pushing 500 yards and the closest was around 17.
I wanted to take my Ruger Gunsite out this year but I never found any hunting ammo for it so I guess if I go I'll have the '06 with me again this year.
-
Tikka T3 lite 30-06 with a Monarch on top. Very very accurate rifle. Trying out some Hornady superformance 150gn sst's this year.
-
This year is a Rugger 77 old model in .280.
Topped with a Tasco 4x12 (Japan), with a built in range finder and a quick elevation adjustment, 25 yard increments up 500 yards. It was a B-day present from my wife when we were in Japan back in the mid 80's.
-
A pre-64 Winchester model 70 in 300 H&H magnum
-
1st- Remington 700 - 300wm - Nikon Optics
2nd- Remington 700 - .270 - Nikon Optics
3rd- Ruger M77 MK II - 30-06 - Nikon Optics
The wife usually uses the .270
-
Dad: Rem 700 30-06
Oldest Son: Rem 700 30-06
Youngest Son: Rem 700 .243
Probably going to cull that .243 out next year and move him up to the 30-06.
-
Bear gun = Marlin 30-30
Deer Gun = Savage 110 30-06
Elk gun = Kimber Montana 300wsm
-
Savage 110 30-06
-
I'm hunting on the West side this year,, first time hunting in a long time. I'm using a Marlin 45-70 in stainless.
-
This year I have a new setup. Tikka t3 super lite 7mm mag, topped with a 4.5-14x44 Bushnell legend ultra hd. Shooting factory hsm ammo, 168gr berger vld's into a 3/4" group at 100yds.
I've shot the setup out to 600 yards so far and it has that boring tikka accuracy :IBCOOL:
-
All three rifles are our first rifles owned. I bought the Ruger last year. My sons rifle was givin to him by his grandmother. She used it to hunt when she was 9. The scope that was on it was rusted on the inside, so I replaced it. Other than that, its a very nice wood stock rifle.
Ruger American Rifle .308 with a Bushnell - 3-9x 40mm - DOA 600.
Sons is a Mossberg .243 with a 3-9x40
Girl Friends is a Remington 770 .270
-
Another Savage 110 in a 30-06 here.
Just hard to go wrong with that combo...
-
i hunt with a RUGER #1 single shot falling block in 30-06, my son hunts with a savage bolt action 30-06 feather weight, my daughter hunts with a youth model savage 7mm-08, we tried to find it in muddy girl cammo, actually we ordered it a week after the sportsman show and it still hadnt showed up by mid august so she ended up with a black one. if she likes huntn this year, there is a place in montesano i beleive that i can have it silk screened, she would love that
-
My western WA deer gun - .270 WSM with 140 Accubond
My eastern MT/WY gun - .300 ultra mag with 180 Accubond
-
Remington 7400 in .30/06 I got from a member here, with Remington 180 grn Core-lokts, sighting in at a paced off 100ish yards. Can't complain about its performance, sighting in the new Leupold VX-1:
-
Tang safety M77 .338 WM pushing 225 gr SST's. First gun I ever bought, that was some 25+ years ago...ugh I'm old.
Edit....No muzzle brake, no recoil pad. :chuckle:
-
Still haven't decided, bring both with me anyways and probably change it up day to day.
Savage in .243- it's newer to me and haven't killed a deer with it so want to break it in
Go to gun is tikka .300
-
My 243 will see the field in my girlfriends hands again. If my dad decided he wants to get out ill use my 300 rum for that one. Makes it easier on him to sit and be able to shoot to most of the farm. My deer will both fall to my pse again. (One already has)
-
The one I use most often is a Remington model 600 in .308 that my Dad bought me for my birthday in 1965. I've reloaded for it since '66 and I scoped it in 1967. Great for the brush here in SW Washington. This year I'll be trying a Marlin 1895 in 45-70 that I bought 5 years back.
-
1964 Remington Woodsmaster 742 in 30-06. Originally purchased by my grandfather, now in my hands, and will later go to my son.
-
#1 Gun is Remington Model 700, .270 Win.
Also taking a Weatherby .270 Magnum which belonged to my Dad who passed this year, Hope to score with the old mans gun in his honor.
-
Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08. LOVE that little tack driver Killed this buck and yoter within a day of eachother. Yoter was at 350+ yards. Buck was 15 yards  My nephew will be using it this year and hopefully dropping his first buck with it :)
-
I shoot a Winchester model 70 featherweight in .270. It is topped with a Leupold Vari X II in 3x9. I have shot a good amount of deer with it as well as an elk. Love it!
-
I use my Ruger M77 Mark ll with a Leupold VX-2 3x9 for deer and pretty much everything else I hunt. Mine is a stainless barrel with a composite skeleton stock. I originally bought it in Alaska for a boat gun as the deer hunting there is on islands surrounded by salt water, so you tend to get a lot of corrosion on your guns if you're not careful. While you can still get corrosion on a stainless barrel, it's much more forgiving than blued steel. The skeleton stock helps keep the weight down climbing the mountains from sea level. While I bought this gun as a beat around boat gun, it soon became my favorite gun when combined with Federal Premium bullets using a 165 gr. sp-bt. I've taken a hog, too many deer to count, a couple elk and a couple moose with that combination. Most have been one shot kills. In fact, I can't remember the last animal that required a follow up shot with that gun. It was accurate right out of the box. First time I took it hunting, I shot the heads off of 4 grouse and fell in love with it. I've thought about getting a new gun over the years, but then I think, I have something that works, so why change.
My only other deer rifle is my Lyman Deerstalker .50 cal muzzle loader. Just a plain Jane carbine that sure is fun to shoot. The only change I've made to it over the years was to add fiber optic sights as my eyes are getting old. I see they come with those now. I'll be using it in Idaho this year for a combo Whitetail/Elk hunt. Can't wait to get started!
Holy smokes! Was just looking online at the Lyman Deerstalkers and they are now $525, new. I bought mine at Sunbirds in Chehalis in the late 80s for under $100, new.
-
With the Black Beauty, halfway up the mountain. Headed to the top.

-
Sitka......same gun for me in .270..........can pack that thing for a long time.
Yup, they're a pleasure to hunt with. I worried a little about kick with the light stock when I bought it, but it's not an issue at all.
-

-
Pretty stock 7mmfan. Nothing like wood for pure aesthetics.
-
Sweet shot h20hunter!

Thanks......I've had people offer to buy it on the spot but don't believe I'll get rid of it until I shoot the barrell out. It has two bears and a whitetail to its name....more to come.....

Mosin Nagant with Weaver pistol scope and Timney trigger. Bad-Ass.

Normal Elk and Deer rifle is a Rem 700xcr in .300WM.
Took a buck a few years back with a Model 71 in .348. My dad had one in the old days and I wanted to take a buck with it. I'll attatch a pic of the .348.
Previous years have also bagged a few bucks with a Model 760 .270, a Model 94 30-30, and even a couple bucks with shotgun slugs.
My favorite is still the xcr though...

1964 Remington Woodsmaster 742 in 30-06. Originally purchased by my grandfather, now in my hands, and will later go to my son.
Nice looking gun.
Re-finished?
Honestly, I grabbed that image from the internet. Mine is identicle, same quality finish and all, but has a very small chip in the black portion of the front stock.
I swear every time I go to the range, someone tries to offer me cash on the spot for it. After explaining that it's an heirloom, they always say something like "oh god no, you gotta keep it forever then". Hahaha. Yup!
To my knowledge, there is around 18 Deer and 14 Elk had with this gun now. Can't wait till my boy starts adding to those numbers also

Pretty stock 7mmfan. Nothing like wood for pure aesthetics.
Thank you sir. The stock is what sold me on the gun, I was already set on the caliber. I also have M77 MKII in 7mm Mag just like yours and my brother shoots the 270 version just like yours. They are "bullet proof" guns. Everyone has to have a pretty one too though :)

1st choice is Browning A-bolt medallion with boss in 300wsm topped with Zeiss glass. Then Kimber Montana in .308 with Leupold VX3. Depending on mood, might go with FNAR .308 with Leupold Mark IV scope.
-
Weatherby 270
-
M700 Classic 8x57mm in a B&C Alaskan TI stock topped with Nikon 3-9x. Be using it for elk too.
-
Bow is the first choice on each species most of the time. But with the multiseason tags now I get to carry a gun on occasion. When deer hunting with the rifle it depends on whether it's Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday...or how I feel that day. Except for the gun the wife wants to shoot Saturday the safe is filled with plenty of choices sighted in and ready to go depending on my mood. .257 Roberts or the 7mm are probably my favorites, but my new Sako 270WSM just might become the new rainy day gun of choice. For bear it's an easy decision as that new to me 325 WSM Kimber matched with Zeiss scope is pure 3/4 MOA sweetness.
I'm thinking there is an RBros in my future. When that happens I'm expecting my desire to mix things up may change drastically. :dunno:
-
I will be using my Win M70 Black Shadow in 30-06 wearing a Nikon Monark 3x9x40,shooting 165 gr,Nosler Partion for deer or 180gr High Energy Nosler for elk.
