Title: GPS issues...
Post by: Schmalzfam on October 10, 2013, 07:07:00 AM
Hi,
I purchased the Rhino 610 and the hunting gps map SD card from Cabela's. The lady assured me that I could download the map from the SD card onto my computer. I spent 3 hrs last night trying to figure it out. I am at a loss!!
It looks almost like you have to purchase it from the website in order to even make it possible. The GPS does not have a SD card slot.
Just wondering if anyone has tried or knows if it is possible to download the sd card for the hunting gps maps onto your computer from their SD card and then onto the gps?
I'd appreciate any input. Thank you!!

as far as I'm aware it will accept a micro sd card for the 610, 650 and 655.

I believe that you have to go to the Huntinggps site and register and "unlock" the card. I  copied my micro sd card onto a reg sd card to use with my computer since basecamp looks for a "device", also as a backup. I can only get it to work when the sd card in in the PC. Hope this helps. Also I don't believe the 610 accepts data cards.

update. I just checked my rhino 650 and if you remove the battery case it does have a micro sd card. Should be the same as the 610. Question did you get the sd or micro card? Looking in hunting GPS maps looks like they sell both.

The Rhino 610 doesn't have a sd or micro slot. The GPS map came with the adapter for the micro to go into.
I'd think it'd be simple but, not so much! lol

That's a bummer.  Good luck. Did you just buy the 610? If so return and get the 650 without the maps. I got mine for a little less than 400 off amazon.

Yeah me and my boyfriend both bought them at Cabelas last week. I'd love to have that map though, it shows the gmu's property boundaries etc. I was excited.

The card will work with you computer, Basecamp should automatically see it. It only works with USB connections not serial. I have uplaoded and downloaded waypoints from my 62s without any issues. The huntinggps is just a overlay. I think I would give Huntinggpsmaps a call since the gal at Cabelas might have steered you in the wrong direction. Or get a GPS that accepts cards.

the rino 610 will not accept an sd card. also you cannot download a huntinggpsmaps card onto your computer, you can plug it in and run it on basecamp but it will not transfer. you would need to buy a download off of their website.

the rino 610 only has 1.7 G of internal memory also so thats not a whole lot when it comes to maps once you have tracks, routs, waypoints, and spots marked.

i would take it back and spring for a 650. far better unit IMO  :twocents:

:yeah: If returning the GPSs is an option, I would do this. I have the 655T with a 16G card. Anything in the 650 series should take care of your issues.
