Hey just wanting to get started in some grouse hunting. Want to know where a guy could go to get a few grouse. Not asking for a honey hole by any means. Just a good spot where you could go all day and not get bored of walking without any birds in your hands. I also want to know what how to hunt them? I don't believe you would need a dog to be successful but I do need some tactics. Have seen a few Blues getting in and out of Mule deer hunting spots just on accident but never more then 2 or 3. Any recommendations on a good gun preferably a .410. I Usually throw rocks at them till my feels like a windmill with a bad wing. Starting from the bottom will take any help. I live around Ellensburg if that would help.

I've always just used a 22 my self. usually they just go up in a tree close by and hug the tree close thinking you don't see them. Pop em in the head then :)

Grouse are everywhere this year. Ruffs like heavy cover and can be found around draws with water. Blues seem to like ridge tops. I use my trusty 12 ga with 6 shot steel. Seams to do the job. Good luck and happy hunting.

Does anyone find grouse on national forest lands near yakima? Just moved here trying to get an idea of areas to look.
