Well i had no plans on shooting a buck on opening day i had drawn the late palouse tag and had some huge bucks in my plans well things happen my wife had to quit her job and apply for disability benefits well she won and was granted her benefits but doesn't start getting checks tell Jan. and i just applied for management positions so opening days rolls around and i still hadn't made up my mind what to do we started out seeing a few deer and a spike then i ran into a shooter but a couple bounds and he was gone my hunting partner ran into a small bunch of muleys there was 2 bucks in the bunch but only one shooter in the bunch we hunt in a 3 point or better area he couldn't get a shot on the buck going Thur the timber so are morning was pretty quite we did a little bird hunting for a few hours that was pretty bad also so we went into are evening hunt with not much hope of getting any thing we went to a area we didn't hunt last year we were going to do a little push i was going to hit a bottom area and walk a round and back to the top trying to push something into my partners lap well it worked out back firing he pushed bunch of deer right off the top field i could hear them coming my way Thur the timber i can see antlers coming Thur the timber and i am thinking should i shoot him or wait for late buck well instinct kick up came the gun he stopped 50 yards below me quick check yes he is legal i see 3 points Bam there goes the bullet he run about 30 yards down hill from me and i hear him crash still not be leaving i pulled the trigger but i ended up with a nice buck fresh back strap and not worrying if i could get out in November to hunt late buck.

Congrats on the buck!

A bird in the hand is worth two in bush.
My dad did the exact same thing two years ago with that tag. Buck jumps up in front of him during modern, and the hunting instincts took over.

Nice buck!!

you filled yuor tag, and your freezer- and in a time when your hunting opportunities were likely to be quite limited- I dont see that as a waste. had yuo passed up the deer- then not gotten a chance to get back out.. THAT would be a waste. congrats.

Sounds like a good time to batten down the hatches and put some meat in the freezer. Congrats

Good going. Happy to see you using your ATV too........
-
We used the ATV because I shot him in the bottom we were lucky and was able to get right down to him on a old skid road then drug him about half way out before I gutted him out on the way out we had me on the back deer on front and my friend driving we stopped in one more spot so my buddy could walk one area he jumped up the biggest buck he has every seen down there and that's saying something made mine look like a baby didn't even get the gun up before he was gone
