What's your Washington-legal hunting rifle of choice? I saw a really cool rifle I've never seen before this season (Ruger). It makes me wonder what else is out there.
-
Yours is exactly like mine. Thumbhole is so natural and stable. No bi pod for me though.
-
mine is also the same black cerakote with green cerakote twig camo
-
Is that a Disc?
-
Here is mine. I just picked up a carbon copy a couple weeks ago.
-
what brand of muzzleloader is that Carp????
-
This is mine...

Knight Bighorn with thumbhole stock. I love this rifle
-
I shoot the Vortek StrikerFire™ .50 cal RealtreeXtra/CeraKote.

-
Is that a Disc?
Yeah. A disc extreme with a green mountaineer stock.

That's a nice looking rifle.

Thompson Center Grey Hawk .50 Cal
-
Interesting rifle lokidog. oneshot12, glad smiths are still making a good smokepole that shows they are effective with a decent buck. MountainDevil54, that's a fine looking squirrel rifle or Pdog rifle, but I suppose if something bigger came along, there shouldn't be to much of a problem with it.

My smokey
-
Thompson Center Grey Hawk .50 Cal
I have that one also, but 54 caliber.

Heres mine. Knight bighorn .50
-
exposed cap is still the law in WA right? some of these muzzys seemed sealed
-
The Knight Disc Extreme and Ultralight have a small opening in the bolt which exposes the cap. I'm not sure about the vortec.

Sweet rifle oneshot! I really like the traditional ones too. I have two flintlocks I built from track of the wolf parts. One is a 42 1/2 inch barrel southern mtn rifle, 50 cal. I killed one muley buck with it. The other is a 32 inch barrel full stock hawken style, .54 cal. I've killed 3 elk and 4 muleys with it. They both have green mountain barrels, 1:66 twist, and shoot patched round balls and traditional black powder. If I miss it's my fault because the guns will shoot touching bullet holes.
-
CVA Elkhorn. I have it setup for Oklahoma but have since added quick detach rings so I can remove the scope and make it legal for here and switch the ignition system is easy.
-
My dad uses the Vortek northwest magnum in .50 Cal
-
I shoot a T/C .54 cal. Took this bull on 10/9/2013

My 30+ year old HAWKINS 50

Cabela's Hawkins Rifle which I purchased as a kit and built the rifle myself. Since building it in 2003, I have filled my tag with this rifle every year until 2010 when I picked up a T/C Black Diamond.

See, there ya go messing with success now.....

Well i do not have a pic of it, and am sure i will hear what a lously rifle it is. I didn't want to spend alot incase I did not enjoy hunting with a muzzy. But i shoot a Traditions (yes Traditions) Tracker. i have shot about 10 different rifles and i have to say that out of those it is the most comfortable to sholder and i am the most accurate with it.

Well, if you like it why do you care what other people think? Don't apologize, enjoy it.

And I would say since you are the shooter - that is exactly what counts!

T/C 50 cal black diamond with williams peep sight, it works
-
Thompson Center Grey Hawk .50 Cal
I have that one also, but 54 caliber.
Me too! 54. Greyhawk.
-
I shoot a Remington 700 ml magnum in .50 cal.. I have the standard, youth and the magnum all in .50. The 700 has it's issues but I like the feel and it's legal in Oregon and Washington and I can also shoot it enclosed ignition with the weather shroud and .209 shotshell ignition in states where it's legal like in Iowa where I might go back and hunt.

It looks like a Knight Disk with a longer bolt. Or A Knight Disk looks like Remington I should say. :chuckle:
-
One of those which came first the chicken or the egg. :chuckle:
-
Knight wolverine, think I picked it up in 2001 or 02. Set up with scope and 209 plug for VA muzzy, opening day whitetail from last weekend.

white w series super 91 in .451

For being a cheap rig (with an even tackier paint job :chuckle:) I have killed a lot of game with this sucker.
CVA Buckhorn .50

Nice looking guns guys. I don't have a favorite since I have 8 ML rifles.
I have 45's, 50's and a 54. 4 sidelocks and 4 inlines. They cover barrel twists of
1:20, 1:24, 1:32, 2 with 1:28, 1:48, and 1:66. I've been debating what to use
for late ML season which opens on Monday, think I will use the .45's since it will
be whitetail only.
Haven't hunted with a centerfire for decades. Back in 1978 built a CVA Mountain
Rifle. There was no ML season back then and got it because the boss bought a
T/C Hawken to shoot off on New Years Eve, and it looked neat.
Back in 1992 all the deer in unit 133 were winter killed, so in 1993 they opened a
late season ML hunt in unit 136 where I lived. Bought a new Knight Wolverine 54
cal. Killed a Muley buck every year. I have about 8-10,000 acres of private land
to hunt between 133 and 136. The early season is usually too hot and I had a
couple of heart attacks in Aug so the early season was out.
It's hard to have a favorite cause it seems you are always looking for the perfect
rifle. Truth is, they all shoot great and anyone of them will do the job if you do
yours. I'm glad the regulations are as they are cause muzzleloading should be
basically primitive as possible, not a dumbed down 30-06.
-
Well they say that diamonds are a girl's best friend...
So here's my Thompson Center Black Diamond... .50 cal.
This was 2009, and yes I'm aware I look YOUNG in this photo. ;)

Shoot you really do! So can I ask how old were you in this pic? The rifle looks nice also but the cow elk looks better! Congrats on the harvest.
-
Here is mine. First year with it and I love it waaaay more than my bighorn! Traditions vortek. This was my first kill with it, I have a 2nd deer tag to fill thanksgiving.
-
Why do you like it more than your bighorn?

I was 22.
That was my first year muzzleloader hunting. Got the TC shot and cleaned.. Here's hoping for an updated photo this season.
-
Why do you like it more than your bighorn?
Lighter, more accurate, easier to clean, and I like the sights more.

Nothing special. Just a stock Traditions Ultralight NW Mag. My first muzzy. Just got it last november for my birthday. Asked for a $180 used Knight from a shop, told my family thats all I wanted for my birthday and it would be less than $10 each if all my family went in on it. Then my dad called me on my birthday and had me stop at Bob's in longview and pick what one I wanted, this or the knight. I liked the break open idea. It is so extremely easy to disassemble and clean. Easy to cap without a tool. And it felt better fit in my hands and when I swung it around than the knight did. I love it. It is so easy to cary and shoulder. I have heard people's complaints about this gun, esp when it comes to reliability to go off. I have one in 40 or so not go off but all i have to do is cock it again and pull the trigger on the same cap and it goes off. That is the only issue I have had. I love this gun. Hopefully fill my cow tag with it this week. I am excited.

The one I use most is this Austin & Halleck.

I'm trying to get this Mowrey rifle ready but it has some mechanical issues that need to be sorted out.
