Post by: rtspring on October 18, 2013, 07:02:40 PM: So I get up at 2:30 from home, drive to my spot arrive at 6:40. I decided to go after the big buck on Sat, so I arrive to a spot where I have killed three bucks all within a 100 yards radius over the last decade. I get all my gear on and start walking down a old skidder trail! No crap 50 yds from the truck I see horns and butt running away like the wind! Dang, here we go again!!! Only this time I had a pretty good idea where this buck was headed. I sprint 300 yds as fast as 250 lbs can go and get to a old clearcut with a rock outcropping! I throw off my pack and set up prone hoping this buck comes this way!!! I look over everything and after a few minutes Im tbinking the buck went another route. Then around 100 yds away just at the edge of the timber I see a rack.

Put the scope on him and see he his big bodiedand has 3 points to boot!! Booooomm! The .300 rum reported!! Deer is dead as ever! Hike down over a creek and up the hill and there he lays!!! Gut him and then proceed to carry him over the creek, not drag, CARRY. Damn that was fun let me tell you!!! Got him up to the skidder and went and got the truck.

It all happened so fast it was unreal just like opening morning!!!

The big buck lives on. Oh well I know whee he lives and will chase him next fall..

Thanks to my buddies for blowing up my phone for two hours wanting pics!!! I could of used your packing skills!! Ha ha

3250, around a 100 yd shot across a draw so kinda hard to estimate. No further than a 100 though

Any animal is a trophy in my book. When you outsmart them in there territory you have suceeded as a hunter!!

Post by: CoryTDF on October 19, 2013, 10:16:01 AM: Good Job on a buck!!!! 300 RUM??????????? I'll never understand why people shoot those huge guns at deer??? Nothing wrong with it I just liked shooting 30-06 or 270 when I did rifle hunt.

On the flip side to that my dad hit his buck in the from shoulder this year with a 150 grain Acubond from a 30-06 and it looks worse than that. Good shot placement is key with any caliber or round.

I just am not a fan of getting jeu to kicked in the shoulder by an elephant and then see white flashes dancing around in my eyes.

Post by: rtspring on October 19, 2013, 11:26:18 AM: My .300 is just the most cofortable rifle for me to shoot. It fits me perfect. Have others but the .300 gets grabbed the most. With the brake it kicks like a 270 at most.. Really fun to shoot, before the brake?? Uh it sucked!!

Over kill yes. But it works everytime
